Dopesick (2021)
Amazing Miniseries that Makes Regulatory Capture Interesting
The acting, the cinematography, the story all of it were great. But if anything, this was a huge indictment on the federal government, the capture of regulatory agencies by corporations and capitalism. US regulatory agencies used to set the standard for the world, but that certainly wasn't the case here. Our agencies let a company mass-produce then mass-market heroin to hundreds of millions of people then used the revolving door so the regulators could get rich themselves. It's disgusting, doesn't matter if you're a D or an R, it would've gone down the same way. They looked the other way as the biggest drug dealers the world has known sat in fancy board rooms and conference tables and bought off the government and made the decision to addict/kill hundreds of thousands. How this company still exists is beyond me. How Congress has not come down as hard as possible on the entire Pharmaceutical industry is the true sign that we have no refs anymore.
This was a show that needed to be made and showed all that I wrote above in a heartfelt, interesting way that I hope makes people at least question what is happening.
Nobody (2021)
Fun Movie
This movie won't have you thinking deeply about it days later, it won't be one you watch year after year, but it is 1 hour and 30 minutes of enjoyment. It starts quick and doesn't let down. There's a little bit of absurdity in the plot, but don't think too much about it, just enjoy.
I usually don't like movies like this- black comedy action films- but I thoroughly enjoyed it, enough to come here and recommend it to anyone reading this.
Music Box: Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage (2021)
Had potential...
It started off interesting, I was engaged for a while. Then it suddenly veered off into a cultural critique of the late 90s using very progressive morals of today (I am saying this as someone who is a progressive). I pretty quickly lost interest as it wasn't what I thought it'd be and turned it off after about an hour.
If you're looking for an expose on what went wrong at Woodstock 99 this isn't it. If you're looking for a progressive cultural critique that contradicts itself over and over then you've found it. It's a shame as it seemed like an interesting idea.
