Grandpa's Great Escape (2018 TV Movie)

Difficult the review!

I found this film so difficult to review. As a story it's emotional and does capture the viewers attention. This a basically a story of family connections. Yet the way dementia is shown is for me at least extremely disrespectful. Gives the sense that it's game which this illness is not. Left me with a very uncomfortable feeling.

Absorbing Thriller

I came across this British Thriller for the first time this week. This is an atmospheric film that follows the hunt for a nazi concentration camp commandant in post war London. Good acting, excellent script. Well worth a view

Lancaster Skies (2019)

Such a moving film

For just £80,000 the makers have put together a really wonderful film. That takes the viewer right into the heart of the Lancaster Crew as they build trust and confidence in each other. The acting is at times excellent. Story makes you want to keep watching. Moving, warming and thoughtful.

Operation Dunkirk (2017 Video)

Truly awful but well funny too!

This is probably the worst film I have ever seen. It's truly awful. Acting, sets, equipment and more. So why are the British Soldiers wearing parachute regiment uniforms when this regiment wasn't formed until after Dunkirk ? Germans using Sherman tanks. The helmets are all wrong. Weapons wrong. Acting well simply terrible. There are real laughs too it's such a bad film. Don't waste your time.

Framed for Murder (2007 TV Movie)

Oh dear what a poorly written and acted film

The acting in Framed For Murder is so one paced. The story of a bi-polar woman framed for murder is predictable. Personally I wouldn't waste any time on this.

Murder in My House (2006 TV Movie)

Fair afternoon film

This made for TV movie isn't brilliant but it is not that bad either. The viewer figures out quickly who the murder is. But the tension does build up well. There are a few plot holes but these are made up by fair acting and good location camera work. Good after fun.

I Know What I'm Doing (2013)

Good well put together film

This is almost a re make of the brilliant 1945 film I know where I'm going. Of course no film to every come close to the magic of that but this is a good try. Set in Yorkshire I know what I'm doing follows Miss Bennett as she realises that she is about to marry for the wrong reasons. I really enjoyed the relaxed why this film is presented. If watch try to keep the earlier one out of your mind and enjoy.

Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed (2012)

Well acted. Good story

This is a well acted war film. What I really like about this film is that like the three main USA soldiers we don't know them well. They are almost strangers to each other as we the viewer is. But as the film progresses they and us viewers become close. Well made. Good action but most important this is a story about people

Kidnapped (1971)

Excellent adventure

This is my favourite version of the Kidnapped novel. Michael Caine is excellent as is all the cast. The film takes the viewer from the Jacobite battlefields of 1745 to Edinburgh Castle with a chase adventure in between. A good story. Lots of action (the fight in the sailing ship round house is particularly well done). Plus more. A well put together film

Well Worth Watching

In this very atmospheric film. George is already in the Home Guard and we join the story when he is a dispatch rider. Starts film as a Lance Corporal but due to blondering is demoted. However George comes across as very intelligent and saves the day. Lots of set jokes. With an insight into the way the country thought in 1940's. Great support cast. I really enjoyed this film.

Noah (2014)

Excellent take

This is a well made film that has a few twists from the Biblical version. However the changes are well planned out and add to the over all story. Good acting, special effects and more. Enjoyed this film

Murder on the Blackpool Express (2017 TV Movie)

Funny and warm

This is a really fun tv film. Comical, well acted. Having been on some coach holidays really get the sense of reality here. The story is fun too. The passengers die off one by one is this who done it. A pleasant way to spend an hour or two.

The Land That Time Forgot (2009 Video)

The original film and the novel were and still are a favourite of mine. Unfortunately this 2009 remake is possibly the worst film I have ever seen. Terrible acting. Even worse effects. Oh dear

Excellent

I remember this series as a 15 year old and was thrilled to discover some episodes on line. Well produced. Makes war gaming so interesting. The war game figures used are fascinating.

Frankie Drake Mysteries (2017–2021)

Fun, interesting and well acted

Let's start from the beginning this is a fairly good attempt at a female led series. In time with a few changes this could be as good as Murdoch Mysteries are. Sitting in the same sort of tv. Between serious drama and comedy. The production is excellent, sets and custumes take the viewer back to the 1920's. Not a slick as Miss Fishers Mysteries but a good start.
