Maestro (I) (2023)

Pretentious
29 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Sidenote to the reviewer to wrote: "Cooper's conducting is simply amazing." If you are familiar with conducting or classical music, you know that it's not true. It's all over the place. The timing, the measures are all over the place. If he really rehearsed this scene for 7 years...well he didn't do a good job.

But the whole movie is like that: Bradley Cooper is crawling for attention and recognition, he casts and directs himself in a movie with no coherent direction. It looks good for sure, Carey Mulligan gives a very good, elegant and convincing performanc, as she always does but the movie itself remains shallow. We don't get inside the head of Bernstein, we won't feel like him. It's just a bunch of nice scenes.

Now, that we've seen this movie, it's easy to compare to another movie, Tick, Tick... Boom! Where we follow a small portion of Jonathan Larson's life, his existential crisis and his emotional state. We don't need to follow his whole life, but we lear more about him, than we learned about the Maestro during this 2+ hours of melody.

Shōgun (2024–2026)

If you expect S2 you're at the wrong place
23 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not familiar with the original book the show is based on, but after watching the final episode, there was one word that came to my mind: Seinfeld. Or as people call "the show about nothing".

The reason why is because the title of the show "Shogun", doesn't exist in the story. Yes we get a 1 minute sneak peek about Toranaga's intentions, but it's just a plan, a dream. And of course the whole show is about making him the Shogun because the other side is evil, but in order to achieve his goals he sacrifices literally everyone around him.

He's not better, actually worse because he doesn't attack his enemies, he just kills off his allies. And of course you won't see any of plotting, the plans, because the story focuses on others, whose lives actually less important than his. The story that would be interesting happens off screen of after the show, that we will never see.

It's a huge disappointment, and I'm not saying that because I wanted more action, I just wanted a good story where things happen on screen. Otherwise I could just go and watch Seinfeld.

Hungary's culture since 1990 in a nutshell
25 January 2024
This show runs for 8 years now which proves that quality doesn't matter for a hungarian audience if it comes to culture and entertainment. This is the lowest point we ever had. There's no good, watchable show currently, just simple, tone deaf stuff that undermines everything that real artists, directors, writers, actors worked for decades. The makers of this show doesn't respect their audience, they don't want them to think, just turn their brain off - which is occasionally acceptable if you have an opinion between this or an actual tv show that has compelling stories, characters or message, because this show clearly doesn't have any of those.

We have such a small country, this is not hollywood, so no actor could ever feel the pressure of being typecasted, but whoever worked on this show should never get another gig. Such a shame.

"No, he's not running the show" Phoebe Waller-Bridge
16 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This very sentence comes from the most annoying character of the movie, referring to Indy. And for the most part it's sadly true, he's not running the show. But he should be. Seemingly the writers for some reason failed to understand the essence of Indiana Jones. He's not supposed to be part of history, he needs to save it, preserve it. Yes he sees things that cannot be explained, magical, outworldly things, but he never loses sight of his calling: archeology: saving things that belong in a museum.

An aging Indy should've opened many doors to highlight his experience, his wisdom, but unfortunately he needs to be saved far too often. Indy doesn't need to be saved! He's the one who saves the day!

The story itself stays interesting, the casting is good, Harrison Ford still has it and there are scenes where the movie really shines, but sadly the creators misunderstood the core, the essence we grew to love.

Meet the worst survivors ever
11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Currently at s11 so I can confidently say the main team is definitely the worst equipped, organized, oriented group during the whole zombie apocalypse. We even had a big time jump - around 7-8 years - so we could certainly see: during these years they've accomplished nothing. 0. Everything good happened to them was coming from sheer luck, nothing more. They couldn't adopt farming, build more mills, houses, walls. Expand, explore. They're still struggling with food yet noone ever tried to plant potatoes (one of the easiest thing to do)?

It's been forever since the fall, but their best plan is still getting canned food... The showrunners could've come out with something more exciting.

The Walking Dead: We Are the End of the World (2019)
Season 10, Episode 2
3/10
Is this supposed to be good?
14 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After a really great s9 this season kicks off with two boring, predictable episodes. Alpha is still not a good villain, especially after showing her past, that she was an evil character way before the dead started walking. The acting doesn't help either, feels like an overacted school project in the woods. The Governor and Negan worked because they had a perspective, they had something common with the survivors and had a more or less respectable moral code. I haven't read the comics yet, but the Whisperers concept seems like a waster opportunity so far, they are not scary, they just irritating.

Whenever you watch this brainless, senseless action flick just think about this: this is the most expensive Netflix movie out there. They made this because this makes the most money. It's simple supply - demand relation but it's sad.

Strong plot
7 July 2022
Comically bad characters and twists. It was like watching a too serious Looney Tunes episode. It started so strong, so good why do they need to go over the top with these kkklan actions? 300 soldiers at the courthouse and the guy manages to take his shot with his rifle?

Remember when Westworld was hot?
7 July 2022
Watching this episode kept me thinking: remember when Westworld was hot? The first season was and will stay amazing. Season 2 was an interesting setup with the other parks, confusing what is real and what is not. So what needed to become a generic cheap sci-fi? Every character just repeats itself, we saw this 1000 times. And I don't have any high hopes for season 4. Some shows listen and fix their problems (strange things s4 managed to redeem itself) and some just circulate deeper into their own dirt.

You here right now
18 June 2022
Well, the movie of the year will not be a $100+ million budget movie, but a smart, funny, heartfelt, creative piece that will take you to other possible outcomes of our lives, teach about family relations and roles. Gosh I love this instant classic and makes me want to watch again and pay more attention.

It will make you wondering about "what ifs", your choices in your past and your future possibilities, trick you into believe that nothing means anything, but at the end, where everything comes together you realize that in life, it's really you and here and right now.

Little bit of nothing
9 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Calling this a horror movie was a bit of exaggeration. Yes there are dark scenes (I mean the screen is dark) and some people die in it, but it reminds me of a low budget trash horror-comedy, and it doesn't help Marvel to evolve. The plot is non existent, no one really cares (you shouldn't either) nothing has weight and nothing makes sense. The cgi throws you back to the early 2010's (yes it's bad) and they finally figured out how to waste iconic cameos. I praised No Way Home for using the old characters creatively, here everything went to the garbage.

Poor Patrick Steward has no luck redeeming his characters (just like Picard) and every character who was strong once, is totally useless now. A movie should work as a standalone story, Marvel seemed to forget this a long time ago and now everything is on 110%.

This movie only showed that Marvel has too many characters and even they don't know what to do with them.

  • Big octopus-like monster that destroys New York landscape in the 5 minutes...
  • The strong magical fortress: gets destroyed in 5 minutes.

  • The Illuminati: gets destroyed in 5 minutes.

  • Another Doctor Strange with the power and knowledge of the Darkhold: gets destroyed in 5 minutes.

At the end love wins, noone really changed or learned anything, but hey, they can sell some new merch again.

Please don't
13 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm such a big fan of season 1 and 2, but I was so afraid of s3 that I didn't bother to watch until now. Wish I never did. This season is a completely different show and not in a good way. I don't know if this was the creators original idea, but they should've asked their viewers somehow and realize that no one asked for this type of season. Becoming a generic sci-fi after 2 smart seasons is the biggest mistake they could've done. Simply put its not worth watching and episode 5 was the perfect example. It had no purpose, just "playing" with genres.

Euphoria (2019– )
6/10
Only season 1 exists
8 March 2022
Euphoria was the good stuff back in 2019, it was fresh, bold and finally a show that doesn't sugarcoat the dirty, filthy world of millennials. Okay it was an exaggeration but still. It was a tv show that I would recommend to all parents to somehow understand their kids, their generational issues, and see how exposed they are.

It had everything from the perfect start to the perfect ending.

I'm saying that because season 2 was a mistake. This show was never too strong storywise. Nothing complicated, but it had style, a good cast, some really special moments and a direction for the characters and though you never got close to then, had some connection with the main cast. And aside every surreality, it felt real.

Season 2 lost all characters, direction, story. Only the style left. If you want to watch 8 hours of music video it's the perfect show, but otherwise this show deserves more... much more. It has potential, good casting, setting, hell of a cinematography... now they should get a writer. It might be hard, as a showrunner you want to write, direct and manage everything, but you need to put some trust into others.

I really hope season 3 will bring something new and fresh again. A new storyline, interesting characters. A white dot in the black hole.

Such a good material, such a bad adaptation
23 February 2022
They had the perfect story, everything to make this unforgettable. But just like Anna, they screwed up everything.

This shouldn't be a feel good "ocean's eleven" type show, this is much more serious. This story should tell a message that everyone could understand... And whoever edited this show, please fire them.

Actually hilarious
6 February 2022
I've never had so much fun watching a documentary. It should been called "Golddigers in Danger" Jokes aside this docu shows how shallow, stupid and easily manipulated people are. They do everything for the promise of private jets, luxory hotels, parties - from an actual stranger. If you get into a trouble like this, you can only thank for yourself.

After Life (2019–2022)
10/10
Thought I'd never give 10 stars
7 January 2022
Especially for a show made by Ricky Gervais... but here we are.

I'm a film and tv show addict ever since I was a little kid. I'm so proud of my parents that they took me to the Phantom Menace premiere when I was only 5. One of the biggest movie experiences still today. I watch movies, tv shows, documentaries every day, because I love them. I love when I can get lost in a story, get to know the characters, relate with their struggles, problems or sometimes just enjoy the show, the effects, the world they present me.

Although I never got emotional watching a movie or a show. Never. The highest rate I ever gave was 9. Movies that I grew up or enjoyed so much or gave something that nothing ever did before. They got 9.

I watched the first episode of After Life the day it was released. Didn't get so invested, I felt like it's a Ricky Gervais rent marathon, where he gets to say whatever he wants and create a whole show around it. So I didn't care enough.

With season 3 coming up I gave it another try. 30minutes/episode, you can binge watch the whole series in an afternoon, so why not. I'm not going to go deeper. It made me cry. First time ever a tv show made me cry. I've never seen anything like this before, didn't expect this, especially from Ricky. Making a whole tv show about one emotion: grief. He took his time to unfold this emotion, deliver it, put it in words and by the end of season 2 I was in his shoes, feeling his bitterness, his loss, his thoughts.

It's been four years since my icon, my hero, my Grandpa passed away and although I do a lot of things to keep his memory and legacy alive, I probably never took enough time to mourn him. I feel like now during watching this show I had that chance, I mourned him. And that's probably the biggest thing I could ever get from a movie or tv show. Cheers Ricky!

An unpopular review
23 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are two type of filmmakers: One that makes a movie because wants to tell a story.

And another that tells a story because wants to make a movie.

Unfortunately this time Wes Anderson seems to be the latest. This is his most stylish, WesAnderson-ish movie so far but not necessarily in a good way.

Many says this movie is a love letter to journalism, I think it's a love letter to himself. He's so in love with his own expositions, style, absurd conversations that he forgot to add one thing: a coherent story. He got his all time favorite actors (terrific performance by everyone) put them into these amazing sets but put empty words into their mouths.

These overstretched shorts are heading to nothing, nothing holds them together. There is always a critique, a satire, you enjoy the dynamics but it's empty in the inside.

I found myself thinking about other things, better movies, at the end I was even bored. My girlfriend is a huge Wes Anderson fan, but her first word was: disappointed.

It's possible that I watched this movie in a wrong time so I'll give it another try.

Hard to relate
17 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was 8 years old when Sam Raimi's Spider-man came out and blew our mind. It was a move that mase us jump from couch to couch, just like spidey, quote the characters, and play through the movie in our backyard. Then we got Spider-man 2-3, later Amazing Spider-man 1-2 with Andrew Garfield and later Tom Holland's take on the role.

I always liked the dorky, relatable Peter, who struggles in life, has time management issues, tries to protect his friends, love interest and has real life problems. Tobey's version was perfect for this, and I think for this reason he's still the best Peter Parker.

Unfortunatelly I didn't like the Amazing Spider-man versions that much, the story wasn't that interesting, only the acting and the chemistry saved it between Andrew and Emma. But the ending - for me - was and still one of the boldest moment in standalone superhero movies. It was The Night Gwen Stacy died.

Tom Holland's spidey first came in Civil War, he was one of the many heroes in that movie, but he was likeable, fresh and fun so he got his standalone movies combined with following Avengers movies. Marvel always had issues with its movies. The antagonist is always the same (daddy issue) and the story never seen to risk big with one or two exceptions. We're always running the same circles.

But why did I had to write all these before even mentioning No Way Home? Because it seemed different, it seemed bold, risky and maybe fresh again. But then I went to see it.

My problem with Tom Holland's version of Peter that I can't relate. He's not dorky, he's actually talented and people recognize his talent. He has a bright future, love interests, a good friend, a loving environment and more importantly: always someone to look up, a mentor. He doesn't need to struggle finding his own path because its right in front of him and he knows it. No big struggle here. No everyday problems in his life.

No Way Home starts when Far from Home end credit scene ended: The world knows that he's spider-man and thinks he killed Mysterio. Big problem? Tony Stark told the world he was Iron Man, Captain America never had a secret life and so on. Just prove your innocence and that's it. No need to ask Strange to use his magic to forget the world that he's spider-man. But he does, and interferes with the spell, the multiverse cracks up and people starts to come to his world. Only the ones with the knowledge that Peter Parker is Spider-man. That means Octopus, Green Goblin, Lizard, Electro and Sandman. Ohh and the two other Peter Parkers. Because they're here.

So if you're not familiar with the old movies, this movie will mean almost nothing. Marvel did a 180 turn and said "You need to know every superhero movie to understand this one". Not just from the MCU, but every other. This was risky, probably payed off because the first movie is only 19 years old.

It's truly good to see all three Spider-mans sharing the screen, referencing memes, using their own skills. The problem is all the best and brightest moments are references to the old movies. Andrew is still a hell of an actor. You can tell, he didn't just catch MJ, he catched himself too (probably one of the best MCU moments). Tobey's interaction with Otto is sweet and throws back to your childhood. The problem is they're not pushing forward the main story, Tom Holland's character. He's somewhere there in the background with the problem: everyone needs to forget him. And they do. And I'm afraid that years later I'll forget him too, because his standalone trilogy was good because of the other 2 Spider-mans. Now he's only Spider-man, not Peter Parker.

Why 9?
24 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"On the next time maybe try writing about what you know."

Such a perfect biography. You don't need to show the beginning or the actual ending, everything about his life, you only need to understand Jon and his journey. You learn to feel his struggles, his emotions, his place in his own world. I could write so many things about this movie because it resonates with me on so many levels. As a writer, who works on his project for several years now and yet, couldn't put it together into a book - maybe only at the last minute.

Honestly I was afraid first, because I don't like musical movies that much, when actors start randomly singing on the street, but this movie got it right. It had a purpose. Andrew Garfield was a prefect choice, it's just good to see him playing Jon Larson. The script, editing and cinematography just amazing. I really can't say anything bad about this move and that's very rare. I could only recommend this movie.

Whenever you're in a lonely, dark, silent, never-ending place, watch this movie, and continue your work. If you're done and no one is there to apprecialte you, do another one. And an another one.

Blame me pls
23 November 2021
First of all: this movie is great! It's a good old school piece and if you like history you should go and see it.

Second: what's wrong with Mr. Scott?? Do not ever blame your audience. Blame yourself, blame your product, blame the studio, producers, marketing whatever BUT never your audience. Stay humble no matter your professional past, because with your last statement you killed your movie.

2 stars for the animation
13 November 2021
Mr. Favreau what was this shameless copy? This is unforgivable. It took me 2 years to watch this and oh boy...wish I had never seen this version.

You had all the money in the world, all the assets, crew, actors to make something new. A little different? A new perspective? Maybe read Hamlet before, to understand the story?

You basically made a fan-made Lion King with 3d animations, burned mountains of money and added nothing to the original. It's the same but without the artistic value, the life and likeness. It's the very same script. Those extra scenes, sentences add nothing to the story.

I will hide this movie from my kids and never talk about it. I will show only the 94' version, because that's good, and this is not.

But it looks good!
8 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A good movie should work as a standalone piece, and this sadly doesn't. It perfectly captures the style, introduces houses, the world, but fails to tell a story. It's only a pilot for something bigger, but the sequel might be disappointing. I mean we all know where's the story heading, we've seen it before. So it would be nice to spice it up (sorry) risk and make something new and unexpected out of it. We've seen hundreds of chosen ones, bad guys, big battles.

Denis is a great director, I love his way of storytelling, his style, but this time it wasn't enough - maybe because of the source material. But hey, it looks good!

How this movie happened? What is the actual plot? I watched the entire movie and couldn't find out.

1 dimensional characters, unfunny jokes and somehow this movie manage to become an insult for everyone. What were they thinking? The only thing that is good in this movie is the music but hey, they just licensed those.

This movie is on my top 10 worst for sure, and that's a big thing.
