The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Don't be discouraged by the bad reviews
I put off watching this for over a year as I was afraid that it would disappoint as there was a lot of negative reviews surrounding the series if you are a lotr fan.
After finally completing the series, I can honestly say I was suprised by how much I loved it. The 1st episode was a little slow, but the pase quickens and entensivies as the story progresses.
As for the heafty budget that was used, I have to admit that it was money well spent. You can clearly see the quality material they created with exquisite music, visuals and makeup.
The orcs in particular looked atrociously marvellous, especially if you compare them to the over artificial orcs in The Hobbit movies.
I particularly enjoyed seeing scenes that looked identical to the ones in the original Lotr movies and being able to almost instantly recognise certain characters as they had true likeness to their predecessors.
If you listen closely, there are lines and references that you'll recall being said in the original movies and many little details that create a link between the timlines of the past and the future of middle earth.
This show is worth a watch.
Looking forward to the next season!
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (2017)
Think it gets better with time? Think again
I was so excited when this show came out as Naruto was and still is my ultimate favourite show of all time. To my surprise, it started off on a really low point with a very shallow story line, boring characters and no note worthy villians.
I thought, ok it's still early, I'm sure they will have character development and that given a little time I would come to love the show as I did Naruto. Sadly, that never happened. 241 Episodes in and still the show is at best mediocre.
I really didn't want to be one of the haters, but all the elements that made Naruto an exceptional series are missing in this "Next Generation" version. Everything you came to love from the original is destroyed, and even the original characters like Konohamaru, Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi and others have become bland and feel like shells of themselves.
It sadens me to say that I honestly feel like this show was very unnecessary and shouldn't have been made. My 3 star rating is soley for Kawaki, as he is the only character that feels fit to be in a Naruto series.
Boo, Bitch (2022)
Not worth the watch...
I don't mind cringe, but this is just too hard to watch. It's like you're watching a show meant for little kids with random mature content mixed in. There is no target audience. The characters, dialogue and plot is a mess. Not to mention the leading male character (the popular guy she's in love with) is nothing to desire as he tries to rebound kiss the female lead minutes after he breaks up with his longterm gf... Maybe it's just me, but that was a bit of a turn off...
Rookie Cops (2022)
Highly Underated! ⭐ 10/10
I didn't expect too much from the drama when I first saw the trailer, but after watching it I was amazed by how I fell in love with it! The storyline is captivating and even the side plots provoke so many feelings of happiness, laughter and even sorrow. I can't believe this drama hasn't received more attention and doesn't have a higher rating. It's a real diamond. Over the years I've watched hundreds of Kdramas and this would be one of my favourites. Do yourself a favour and watch it.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Not as bad as some say, but not great either
There are some really nice elements in the show that could have made it a good addition to the HIMYM series, but sadly there are also some really bad ones.
Future Sophie telling her son the story of how she met his father is probably the worst part in my opinion. Her voice is suppose to be the seeling point here, but instead it's almost unbearable to listen to. She comes across as an annoying, drunk middle aged woman ranting on about her past to her kid where Bob Saget's verion was sweet, likeable, cleverly silly, he was good with his kids and was a pleasure to listen to. I tried really hard not to compare the two shows, but that iconic scene and narration was ruined for me with this new version.
As for the best part, handsdown Jesse is the saviour of this show. His character has all the nostalgic feels of Ted Mosby's quirky behaviour and he even has a little Friends, Chandler Bing vibes going at times. He is extremely likeable and fits perfectly into the HIMYM universe. As for the rest of the cast's characters, I can't say much about them as they didn't really make much of an impression. I don't know if that's going to change or not, but hopefully it does cause I really want to like this show.
If it gets renewed for a second season, I hope they'll address some of these issues and maybe the show will get better with time...
The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure (2022)
Fun & Entertaining
If you want to casually sit back and watch something light hearted and entertaining, then this is a great movie. Some of the CGI effects are a little average, but I liked the silliness of it all. The music was fun and upbeat, the plot was uncomplicated and straight to the point and the characters were likeable. The fighting scenes were surprisingly really good too and I'm a sucker for sword fights. It had some very random humour that some might find very cringe, but I think we all need a little more cringe in our serious lives...
Fear Street: 1978 (2021)
Better than Part 1
If you're looking for a watchable slasher movie, this just might make the cut. The vibe and feel for the late 70's was still a bit off, but not as much as Part 1. It was the little details that were missing, for example, where was the iconic BIG hair from the 70's? As for the music, it was a nice touch and used better throughout the movie. Acting was pretty decent, especially that of Ziggy, the main characte. As for the story itself, it felt more straightforward and to the point than Part 1. All in all it was an improvement on the previous movie.
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
1994? Don't think so
I was really excited about this, thought it was going to be this nostalgic 90's vibe with real 90's feels like Stranger Things. Sadly they missed the mark for me. The clothes, hairstyles, the way they speak... It's all modern, definitely not the 90's. The acting is done well, but the story falls flat. Missing that thrilling element...
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
One for LOVE + MUSIC!!
If you're a sucker for love and mind blowingly beautiful music, this is a must watch! The duets done by Ewan and Nicole are Amazing! I know every song by heart simply because of how memorable and beautiful the melody and lyrics are. The story is fun, silly and all kinds of sad. Had so many mixed emotions. "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return..." Simply loved it!
Bridgerton (2020)
Updated - Season 2 Close to Loving it
I enjoyed the second season more than I thought I would. It had a good slow burn romance and it focused more on small intimate moments and exchanges of their personal struggles than on simple sexual encounters like the previous season. The outfits and decor settings were beautiful as always and I really enjoyed every episode.
The Kissing Booth 2 (2020)
F.U.N!
There are so many reasons to enjoy this sequel, one being that the female lead has such a likeable character. She's fun, quirky and really believable. I find that the movie has multiple relatable situations that I think many of us have experienced at one point or another in our lives. It had a good storyline and message regaring how young adults fall under pressure figuring out their uncertain future. All in all it was a smiling, enjoyable, decent movie to watch on a Friday night. It's as good as you can get for an American teenage romcom.
The Lion King (2019)
Breathtaking Visials, Terrible Voice Acting
The attention to detail is amazing, with rich radiant colors and satisfying scenery. It's such a pitty that the voice acting is below average for most of the characters. It sounded like people reading a story book to children instead of actual actors. The original songs were perfect just the way they were. They didn't do this legendary movie justice... Some things shouldn't be changed.
