Transcendence (2014)
What a spectacular...failure.
I love the subject. The idea of the movie. The basic premises of the story. The cast is also great. But the result? Total failure!
Why? The direction, the script and the acting are all dreadful most times. As if actors can't be bothered to act. They just utter their lines, do their thing and.... CUT!
But I've seen all these actors elsewhere, and most of them are great! So what is wrong?
The direction of the movie is dreadful. The script also needs a 90% rewrite. The way the story evolves, it makes no sense so many times. The most important part, that of the violent resistance, is so unrealistic it makes you wanna cry. If it was a B-movie or a Monty Pythons sketch, at least you would laugh.
I hope that now, with the rise of AI and AGI & singularity nearer than ever, someone with big guts like Chris Nolan, James Cameron or Spielberg will make a blockbuster out it!
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Everyone got it wrong? It's a Metaphor, a cynical allegory to Irish Civil War
I'm surprised none has called the great Metaphor, the allegory to this Great Movie:
* Padraic & Colm are *definitely* a metaphor of the 2 Irish fractions Provisional Government of Ireland and the Irish Republican Army (IRA) that were on a civil war between them over the Anglo-Irish Treaty, during 1922 & 23. These previously close friends were now attacking, damaging and killing each other. It make no sense, watching the story unfolding, to be around those specific characters. The reasons are deliberately vague, unexplained, idiotic, persistent and stubborn. There is never a real discussion about it, only hopstility. Just like during a bloody civil war. I'll let you choose which one is which ;-)
* Siobhán (Padraic's sister) maybe represents Reason or Wisdom. She's the most educated, wise and tries to resolve conflicts. Despite being strict her self with matters in general. In the end, se departs cause she can't stand the madness. Maybe she represents England or the UK? I leave that all to you!
Jobs (2013)
The worst bio movie ever, for one of the most notorious characters of the Information Era
I usually enjoy biographies a great deal, even for persons unknown to me before watching the movie. Mostly cause it is based around a real character, someone who lived and influenced our existing world and because the events that took place are based on some real ones.
With jOBS you get a broken fracture of a story telling, a crippled depiction of characters, a random selection of mostly secondary importance events and an incoherent emotional spew. Most of the greatest moments of Jobs and Apple are either missing or fast forwarded, whereas some idiotic scenes are awfully long.
Steve Jobs was one of the most influential characters of the Information Era. Watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley" or some other Jobs documentary if you want to see why. But definitely SKIP this movie.
Avatar (2009)
An astonishing movie, strong story, and the most awesome visuals ever!
What an incredible film! Cinematography of the a new era.
Where do I start ? It seems that it's a just perfect sci-fi blockbuster that is at the same time a fairytale, a love story and a battle for survival. But it continues being a (delayed) cry for the slaughtered tribes that used to live in what is now called America or Australia, along with the deforestation and the irrational destruction of our natural environment. And last but not least, it is the 'connection' this all has with us.
Watching Avatar springs into mind a perfect blending of elements and clichés of so many well known movies: Dancing with the Wolves, The Matrix, Born on the 4th of July and Pocahonta to name a few. But I found this to be superb!
All in a future high-tech metaphora, of enormous weaponry and spaceships and a primitive jungle world that's both weird but also so familiar.
Coming to the visual aspects of Avatar, I was simply awed. Its not the first Movie I've seen in 3D recently, but its certainly the best. I think that event if you remove 3D, this movie is an eye candy from start to finish. Simply amazing, but do watch it in 3D before it goes!
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008)
A total load of bad story coupled with silly humor....
What an utter load of silliness! This is by far the worst most boring and meaningless cartoon I 've seen, for both children and adults in terms of storyline, action, humor, moral teachings, and overall fun... And I love (good) cartoons.... save your time & don't watch it!
I hated the fact that the characters are not convincing at all. Also those impossible and silly things than happen all the time (yes, I know its a cartoon). Hey, see all kind of silly things that animals do in a jungle with a crashed plane and you'll know what I mean.
I think the people that made that film are completely surreal, but in the bad-taste side of it. They tried to give these animals human characteristics - which is fine - but they completely missed the point.
I give it a four cause the story even made me upset while I was watching this with my friends!
