What exactly did Philip K. Dick do that caused so many horrible adaptations of his work to be made? I want to say this was the worst of the bunch, but there really are a lot of horrible attempts at bringing his work to the screen. Part of the problem is that people like adapting his Short Stories, they seem to think it gives them room to add all of their own creative flair.
This felt like a bad movie from 1994 except it was made in 2001, the special effects were laughably bad, and the director seemed to have a hard-on for John Woo. I'm surprised a bunch of doves didn't fly out at the end. They kept to the story well enough, through in a little twist of their own, and added the cliche of "look at these poor impoverished people that need medicine" that was the side story of every 90's sci-fi.
Credit to Vincent D'Onofrio for giving a good performance in a piece of garbage. All of the cast did just fine, can't fault the actors, but D'Onofrio was putting forth more effort than this production deserved. Dude's a pro.
