Nefarious (2023)
The best and worst movie I've ever seen
Explanation of my review title: parts of it are very sad and disturbing and I was not prepared for some of the themes in this movie.
I've watched so many thrillers and horror movies in my time, and this movie had me invested from the very beginning. No jump scares, just pure psychological horror is how I would describe it. It's not a movie I would watch again just to watch, but that's because of how sad and depressed it made me feel. If you're looking for in your face horror or jump scares, then you might not like it. But if you're looking for a really good movie that actually makes you think about how the world is today, then you'll like it. I definitely recommend this movie. You won't be disappointed.
Gilmore Girls (2000)
I just can't anymore
I tried watching this show when I found out my 16 year old daughter was on season 5. I figured if she made it that far it was good, and I've been told by friends in the past that I should watch it. I'm made it to season 2 episode 3 or 4 maybe? Lorelai is a terrible and very annoying person. Her parents are made out to be the villains, but in my eyes they're the heroes because they made it through 16 years with her under their roof. She's basically a 32 year old woman who never actually matured past age 15...not in how she acts, talks, or dresses. Why so many men are interested in her I'll never know. Nobody on the show talks like a real person and it's full of not funny and overdone stereotypes. There's so many references to the late 90s and early 2000s era and unless you know about that topic you don't get the "jokes". I was born in 1985 so I should know some but they're such obscure references they fall flat.
And I just can't explain how annoying and obnoxious and judgemental Lorelei is. And the girl who plays Rory needs to learn to move her lips when she talks. I feel bad that Melissa McCarthy is in this because she has way more talent than anyone on that show but it's wasted here. I really tried to like this show but I hate everything about it.
Look Both Ways (2022)
Finally a movie that doesn't preach politics
I really liked this movie. It doesn't shove leftist ideology down your throat like so many movies lately. There's a gay character but the whole LGBTQ agenda isn't thrown in your face the whole time. A girl gets pregnant but no one is pushing abortion on her. It's very refreshing how they show that you don't have to make "certain choices" ( I think we all know what I mean) in order to have the kind of life you want. More movies like this should be made. Also, I like how they made her not pregnant in one timeline instead of making her pregnant and choosing to end the pregnancy. If they had taken that route the whole movie would have been a failure in my eyes. Although, I think they could have done something with adoption. That would have added some character development to the opposite story line. Like maybe they put the baby up for adoption, went they're separate ways, but still going each other after all. That would have made it better in my opinion but I still stand by my rating.
Barbarian (2022)
Timeline doesn't add up.
The homeless man said she was a copy of a copy of a copy, and she was 40 years old. The "dad" looked to be 45 when he started this whole thing. Let's say his daughters were 16 when he gets them pregnant. That's 45+16. First daughter would be normal. Now he's 61. So he'll have another daughter, 61+16 is 77 years old. This daughter might be a little messed up, but nothing like that really deformed woman. So he'll have to have another daughter, 77+16 is 93 years old. Maybe this is the deformed lady and she has to age 40 years. So we're supposed to believe this man 133 years old? Even if the first incested daughter was that deformed he'd have to be 77+40 is 117 years old. Either way you look at it the math doesn't add up. I guess the writers didn't think about what they writing. The dad shouldn't have been in the basement, more deformed women should have been because he would have died of old age before the last daughter turned 40.
I did think the acting was really good. I didn't like the way it ended, but it wasn't a terrible movie. I could tell they tried to make it an interesting storyline without it being as disturbing as, say, the hills have eyes.
In the Tall Grass (2019)
Why do people think it's ok to kill babies on screen like this?
First I saw it on the crap movie "Mother", now this piece of garbage. Stop using shock factor and actually come up with something clever!
Even without that this movie doesn't have anything going for it. What was the point?

Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Book brought tears, movie did not
It wasn't as good as the book, that's for sure, but what movie is? But I do think it was a very good movie none the less. I do think they could have done better showing the torment the dad put the family through. The way the movie showed it sort of didn't give the viewer enough information to give the mom the sympathy she deserved. I will probably watch it a 3rd time when it makes it to a streaming network and I'll definitely read the book again which brought me to tears twice ( movie didn't).
Ozark (2017)
I googled the Ozarks and it's not that cloudy
Why is it always so cloudy looking? If they wanted some place that was cloudy and dreary all the time they should have gone to Monterey, CA. The weather there is depressing. And why is every other word the "f" word? That's just lazy writing. Was the point of the show to end up hating the main characters? I put up with the RIDICULOUS and unnecessary amount of cussing because I thought the show was going somewhere interesting...it never did. So many things brought up that were never explained. Crap ending!!! Ugh! Waste of my time.
The Black Phone (2021)
Overall great movie!
I really enjoyed it, but I do wish there was some background given to "the grabber". It would be nice to know how he got the way he is, especially since the brother seems fairly normal (not a serial killer).
I don't understand the bad reviews. Every movie could have improvements but it sounds like they wanted physical horror and gore rather than a more psychological thriller type.
Firestarter (2022)
Music caused me anxiety.
Something about this movie/music gave me pronounced anxiety and a very very uneasy feeling. Left after about 15-20 minutes. Gave 5 stars to be fair since I didn't watch the whole thing.
Double Daddy (2015)
He was raped!
Why is no one taking up for this kid who was obviously raped! If the genders were reversed the boy would have been in jail so fast!
Other than that the movie wasn't completely terrible.
Beaches (1988)
Felt very forced
I didn't believe that these 2 women were actually friends. There didn't seem to be any chemistry between them. I watched it because of Jane the Virgin but I wish I hadn't have spent $4 to rent it on Amazon.
Abominable (2019)
Great movie!
Enjoyed by kids and adults. Beautiful scenery and music.
Cats (2019)
Why all the bad reviews?
This movie is not nearly as bad as the reviews I've read say. Yes, the feet were weird, they should've left the feet alone. Other than that I loved it. I've been watching the 1998 film version with my daughter since she was about 3 years old and we both loved it (she's 13 now). I imagine that the people who hated it didn't know anything about it going in.
