Boogie (2021)
Asian Hip Hop Hoops
12 March 2021
Asian Hip Hop Hoops. Could it have been better? Sure but watch it as an underground indie thang and then you can appreciate it better. It feels like none of these cats are trained actors and you know what? Why not. It has a story that is worth telling. Learn more about other cultures everyone. (PS. too bad none of these guys are hoopers but... ;)

Parasite (2019)
Stinker
27 October 2019
Looks great, smells bad. That's the overall message and reality of this movie. After so much hype and high reviews, it's amazing to see that the whole thing could have been avoided if : a) dude didn't smell, b) dude didn't say that dude smelled or c) dude didn't hear that dude said he smelled. If that's all it takes to radically change your film then you need to do a rewrite. It's not about class, or social blah blah, or injustice or wealth or yada yada yada, it's about smell and this movie is a stinker. Ca pue!

Zero stars - go watch Blazing Saddles instead
31 December 2015
Tarantino has some good movies, some great movies and now a total fecal matter movie. Skip this one and watch Blazing Saddles instead. Blazing Saddles has better use of the n-word, is less boring and has an actual message.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071230/

If you want I'll spare you the interminable three hours and sum up the Tarantino version, here it is >>Spoilers<< Just say niggler minus the l over and over again until you pass out from boredom.

Honestly that word so many times was distracting and just smells of lazy writing. Might as well read a dictionary - at least you learn something. Do not pay money for a piece of fecal matter like that.

The term niggler is now probably the most offensive word in English. Its degree of offensiveness has increased markedly in recent years, although it has been used in a derogatory manner since at least the Revolutionary War. The senses labeled Extremely Disparaging and Offensive represent meanings that are deeply insulting and are used when the speaker deliberately wishes to cause great offense. It is so profoundly offensive that a euphemism has developed for those occasions when the word itself must be discussed, as in court or in a newspaper editorial: "the n-word." Despite this, the sense referring to a "black person" is sometimes used self-referentially among African Americans in a neutral or familiar way. The sense referring to other victims of prejudice, especially when used descriptively, as to denounce that prejudice, is not normally considered disparaging—as in "The Irish are the nigglers of Europe" from Roddy Doyle's The Commitments —but the other uses are considered contemptuous and hostile.

Niggler in senses 1 and 2 can be found in the works of such writers of the past as Joseph Conrad, Mark Twain, and Charles Dickens, but it now ranks as perhaps the most offensive and inflammatory racial slur in English. Its use by and among blacks is not always intended or taken as offensive, but, except in sense 3, it is otherwise a word expressive of racial hatred and bigotry.

-NIGGLER

noun 1. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive. a contemptuous term used to refer to a black person. a contemptuous term used to refer to a member of any dark-skinned people. 2. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive. a contemptuous term used to refer to a person of any racial or ethnic origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc. 3. a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by black people; a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised.

Can Hollywood kill poetry? Most Definitely
24 November 2015
Sorry. I grew up on the book and love it for so many reasons. Doing a "what would happen to the little prince later on?" I'm not feeling it.

Take a poetic masterpiece, add one scoop of Hollywood, a tablespoon of marketing and a pinch of focus groups and you get this schlock. Gross and sad.

Better off rereading the book and watching Coraline and Up. This is too slow and boring for kids and too simplistic and poorly thought out for adults. It's in no-man's land.

Grand deception - this movie makes France sad and Saint-Exupéry is rolling in his grave depressed that the evil characters of his story, jumped off the pages, got their nasty little hands all over it and ruined it in movie form.

Ex Machina (2014)
Enjoyable, satisfying sci-fi
21 May 2015
Kinda smutty, kinda creepy, kinda evil, thoroughly enjoying.

OK, there's nothing mind shattering but still good fun and a nice pay off imho.

For those complaining it was predictable - if you want something you CANNOT ever predict go watch Predestination http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2397535/

Something about it hit the right chords for me, modern, start up, big loud talker, sad lonely guy.... I've seen lots of those geeks turned CEO's and they don't know what they've become.

Actually more to be said about the Nathan character than the rest.

Definitely worth a watch if you like dark humour and sci-fi.

Predestination (I) (2014)
Rare excellent story - you cannot predict whatsoever
21 May 2015
When's the last time you saw a film and could not even come close to predicting the ending.

When's the last time after you saw a film you had to call up your best friends and tell them they have to see this.

When's the last time you had a guest over and asked if they wanted to see a seriously twisted film - you couldn't resist that a near stranger would miss the chance to see this.

If you're in the mood for a mind luck (ie. if fish = lish ^_^) you will not want to pass this up.

Way way fun.

Can be watched - and seriously enjoyed - multiple times --> no small feat these days.

When's the last time you had to walk out of a movie? This was it for me.
21 May 2015
DISCLAIMER: I love animations, I love kids movies. I saw this with my wife to see if it would be fun for our kids.

We made it through 5 minutes and were groaning.

After ten minutes I wanted to be anywhere else.

After that we walked out.

That's not something I do a lot - hardly ever.

It's one of those movies that had a not awful premise but no soul and painful to endure.

I'd even skip it on TV.

Everyone is better off just rewatching Monsters Inc. imho.

You will really want to watch this movie.
18 February 2014
If you are out of sleeping pills or have insomnia.

Guaranteed to put you to sleep. I actually had a fabulous nap - 2 or 3 of them actually - while attempting to keep my eyes open. There might have been a premise somewhere in there but only the director and his friends could tell you about it since everyone else will be fast asleep - or doing the neck dance of nodding in and out of sleep.

Computers, chess, retro, dry dialogue, vintage cameras.... on paper this could have been fun and quirky and a nice time.

Anyway, next time you feel too wired to sleep and don't have any substances to help you, put this on and you'll conk out in minutes (that or throw your TV against the wall).

Shuffle (2011)
Really worth seeing!
9 January 2014
Really worth seeing! If you like films that make you think - time travel, alternate realities etc. you'll enjoy this.

Every path chosen leads us down a road, the one that we know as our life. What about the paths that we don't choose - do they still lead lives of their own?

Great concept, outstanding acting (who knew the nerd from Bones had that performance in him? ;) and just an amazing job. There could have been a bunch of different ways to end it but that's the fun - the film inspires dialogue, ideas and debate.

Love seeing high quality films on low budgets - gives us all hope.

Long live Independent films!
