Detention (2011)

9/10 - Not for Most people but if you get it you get it.

I wasn't going to write a review but so many people on the boards don't seem to like the movie at all. Detention is a sharp, extremely fast paced parody/homage/comedy/slasher/WTF?!?! film for people who watch a LOT of movies. I honestly don't know if it would have been as enjoyable if I hadn't understood most of the references to teen culture, movies, bands and high-school life that peppered the movie every thirteen seconds, but I got more than a few and thought it was perfect.

The editing. Wow. The editing was certainly unique and I loved the jumps and cuts that kept the story moving far faster than most movies I've seen lately. It's probably not for everyone, but again that seems to be the consensus on the entire movie. The way the flashbacks were done was especially fun. I assume the director was responsible for how the film was edited and I'm going to hunt down everything else he's done and watch it now. Assuming he's been able to get money for anything else. I don't know if this was or will be a financial success. Josh Hutcherson should give it a bump in viewership but I don't know if the people who would want to see this will be able to find it. Hopefully it will become a cult hit over the next few years, circulating among folks who appreciate this kind of thing. Speaking of the acting - it was all spot on - exactly how you'd expect people in that situation to act :) Seriously though Hutcherson and Caswell were both very good, as were the supporting characters. The Bear did a fine job as well.

If I had to describe this movie I'd say it was a cross between Brick, Donnie Darko, and Not Another Teen Movie. Would I recommend it? To those of my friends I think would get it. Will I watch it again? Definitely.

I wanted to see this because I m a huge fan of the X files and thought - hey a spoof - that'll be fun. And it was! All the scenes were good but one (SPOILER**the orgy scene was crappy - i don't like ugly girls in these kinds of movies) and the final scully and Mulder scene was done very well - the guy who made this movie obviously knew how the fans felt about those two. As for the acting and technical stuff like lighting, cinematography and sets; it's all very well done, just like a mainstream movie - there were a few moments when scully paused while saying long technical/medical sentences that made me smile, and the guy playing Mulder didn't look like him at all, but overall I really enjoyed this movie even to the point where i was fast forwarding "certain parts" just so i could see where the plot was going. (i know, i know, "Plot"). Overall I scored this a 10, mostly because I loved the original so much and i thought this did it justice, but i think anybody who watches it can enjoy it whether they were a fan or not.

I had horrible expectations and I was pleased at being let down - This is actually a pretty funny movie!

I had read other's reviews and had low expectations going into this movie, but i decided to watch it anyway and I am glad I did! It started slow and I initially wondered if it was indeed a complete waste of time - the opening scene was pretty much a low rent 1 for 1 rip off of American Pie, but I stayed the course like a true republican and after the first ten minutes it got WAY better. The plot revolves around relatively the same idea we've come to expect from all these sex comedies - hot girl in love with a hot guy who's in love with someone else, all the while hot girls best boy bud has been secretly lusting after her for years and a lusty friend (who happens to be female in this movie (and who happens to be quite hot)) who pushes her prudish friend into situations in which comedy ensues. Pretty straightforward but the fun comes from watching the actors try their hardest to make the outrageous plot points seem realistic - both the male and female protagonists here have some pretty hilarious scenes.

Overall I'd give this movie at least a 6, maybe even a 7 just because I was so pleasantly surprised by how fun it was. It also had ample nudity if that's your boat and the girls are all hot. If you have an hour and a half and you wanna see a fun movie then go ahead and watch this.

Cecil B. Demented (2000)

awesome movie (baaaad movie)

the movie itself was pretty excellent. i was laughing almost non-stop through the whole thing. the only thing was - the movie cecil was making was kinda dumb. think about it. when you don't take into account the shenanigans of the cast and crew, the movie they were making just wasn't worth it.

the movie itself was great though. i watched it with my sister and we both loved it, but take care of who you watch it with as it is not the kind of movie you want to watch with your grandma.

overall i give it a ten because it was one of the few movies i actually went out and bought. it is a favorite.
