Samrat & Co. (2014)
Brilliant as a detective story but there is one thing to be concerned of.
This is one of the best Indian films i have seen, Bollywood is not known for producing detective stories but they managed such an interesting movie. It was brilliantly detected, decent background music, suspense till the end, nice script, good plot. In a detective story one has to develop every single character from a driver or a neighbor to the detective itself, and the director and writer managed to do so in this. The dialogs are brilliant and can be used in everyday lives. BUT, there is one thing, after the film ends, the director, writer, actors and every body tells us about the making of the film and all. They tell us that it took them a lot of days to build up Samrat's character in the film, they considered a lot of things and thought a lot before giving a summer of the character to Rajeev khandelwal. While the truth is, all they did was ask Rajeev to closely observe Benedict Cumberbatch's character and copy it, which he did. Same attitude, same lifestyle, same coat, same way of setting the collar of the coat. They should have at least told us that they were inspired by the brilliance of Benedict Cumberbatch. Otherwise, as a whole, the film is awesome, suspense till the very end. The actors did great job.
Chak De! India (2007)
SRK, sports equality and gender equality and team work Brilliant in so many aspects.
The first thing this movie shows us is over excited and unreliable media all around the world. The way they accuse one for match fixing for just shaking hands with the opponent. Another thing this movie tells us is that women are a lot more than we think they are, they are not shadows of men, they are they themselves. In the subcontinent, cricket is given more attention than hockey and football, despite the fact that Pakistan and India have excelled in hockey and ruled the world in this sport for a long long time. This movie is not only an inspiration for players but also for coaches, tells the players that to win something, you first have to work as a team, then comes your technique and all. The movie tells the coaches how to make your team play like a team. "To make a team, you need intentions, not power." This dialog from SRK says it all. And for all hockey/football players, "Don't play against the goalkeeper, play against his mind, the goal will happen itself." The best thing about this movie is that it does not bore you at all, after every 10 minutes or so, there is always some sort of twist. Shah Rukh Khan won Filmfare for best actor for his performance in this film, and deserving as well. The actors playing the characters of the players did brilliant in terms of acting, especially the actor playing Komal. For a huge Hockey fan like me, this is an inspirational story of how to come back strong even after your career is over..
Swades: We, the People (2004)
From a neighbor.
When they call Pakistan and India two branches from the same tree, I reckon they are absolutely right, this movie proved it for me. Yes this was a bit boring, but as long as a movie stays with you till a long time, it's a brilliant one in my opinion. This was definitely one of those for me. The subcontinent is struck with poverty, and with careless leaders, is these cases, an educated and thoughtful countryman and hope is all you need. This movie tells us that leaders are not the ones that should be doing everything for us, we should also do something for ourselves. Instead of asking them for our rights and just depending on them, we must find our own leader and help that leader in making us live a better life. THIS MOVIE DID WONDERS. The songs were perfect, Yunhi challa chal raahi and Ye taara woh taara are two of my favourite songs of all time. Gayatri Joshi portrayed her role perfectly, i am surprised this was her first and last movie. SRK was brilliant yet again, this time, in a simpler role but much deserving for the film fare he won due to his performance in Swades. Brilliant movie, hats off.
