Dawn of the Dragonslayer (2011)
Don't bother - find something useful to do instead
This is a bit like Game of Thrones. Without the budget. Unfortunately also without the plot, without the acting ability, without the well-written dialogue, the without the depth, without the politics, without the believable characters, without the engagement, without the locations, without the visual effects, without... well, you get the idea. Even the Irish accents and the Irish scenery couldn't keep me interested (yes, I am Irish, so that usually counts for something). I especially snorted at the way the "hero" gets flamed by a dragon and shows up in the next scene without so much as a singed hair. But the scenery is nice, and the heroine has lovely 21st century makeup and shiny lip gloss.
Branded (2012)
A 21st Century B Movie
Well, I didn't enjoy it, but if you are a fan of 1950's Hollywood B movie films, then maybe you will. I didn't think it was possible to have such rubbish effects these days and I can't decide if it was a deliberate parody or simply the result of a tiny budget.
Interesting to see it reflect real life in 1980s Britain, when it was gripped by the fear of BSE, also known as Mad Cow Disease. The mawkish love story was not interesting. The idea of Lenin as the first marketing guru was a new one on me and was interesting.
However, the moral was clumsy and obvious, as were the effects. The credits at the end was about the most visually attractive thing in the film.
Not for me.
