The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Beautiful, magical, haunting
I haven't seen the stage musical, but this movie was a pure delight for all senses to watch/listen to. Perfect casting for Christine. Honestly, the only reason I'm not giving it 10 is that Antonio Banderas didin't play the phantom. I've seen him in a live singing perforamance with Sarah Brightman and he's like made for the leading role. Wish I could see the same movie with 0 other changes, but him as the Phantom. It would have been really perfect then. And I'm not some huge fan of him, just though he would be a perfect fit here. But I guess too late for that...sigh.
Tulip Fever (2017)
Could have been much better
It could have been really good movie, if it was not that absurd. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to watch a drama or a comedy. Almost until the end I felt certain there will be a plot twist and it will turn out that Mr. Waltz planned his wife's affair with the painter in order to increase his chances to have a heir, even if he won't be the father. I mean, he obviously paid attention to details. Why otherwise they would show him finding the trade deceit in the beginning, as well as he said something about eating fish too often and said something like: "Are you in love with the fishguy?" I thought he was quite observant and was actually pulling the triggers for both lovers in hope of giving his wife some happiness and himself a heir. Was sure he knew about who was pregnant, as well. Was really disappointed to find out that he didn't...but the end was totally absurd. I mean between the 2 lovers, who actually lacked any chemistry and the male cast was a TERRIBLE choice. Weak and forgettable actor. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching some of the actors, but that was all about it. The script and dialogue were very weak and they really couldn't settle on a genre for this movie...
The Foreigner (2012)
A must see gem
I am a Bulgarian and was pleasantly surprised when I saw this movie at the cinema. I did not have very high expectations to start with, as generally I am not a fan of comedies, but this one is an extremely fresh and amusing motion picture with fantastic music. I went out of the cinema with a big smile on my face. A must see gem! Congratulations to Niki Iliev for the great story and the beautiful way the whole movie was shot. The casting is great, too. The film is humorous, unpredictable and keeps the viewer's attention till the end. One thing is for sure - you cannot get bored or yawn while watching it, at least if your are a Bulgarian. However, you may not be able to stop laughing - that is what happened to me while I was watching "The foreigner".
