The Last Dance (2020)
Just amazing!
This is how a sports documentary should be - inspiring stuff.
Seeing all this 20 years after this happened makes me envy all those who experienced the greatness of Michael Jordan and his team in the 90's.
6 NBA championships from a team that considered 2nd best at the most - beat that LeBron.
Carnival Row (2019)
Immerses you in its great writing and visuals
This is what steam punk is. Having played a couple of games (BioShock & Dishonored), I was expected much from this Amazon Prime series. And this series totally falls through. Wonderfully written with fabulous characters and great music, this is a certified fresh series. Not many such works are there on tv today. René Echevarria must create more such series.
The End of the F***ing World (2017)
A F***ing Great Series
A lively performance delivered by the empty eyed protagonists. One of the most beautiful coming of age stories on tv. Absolutely charming.
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2015)
Delightful little series
Well adapted for the TV, this series works fabulously even if you haven't read the nearly 1000 page tome on which it is based.
Locke & Key (2020)
Nicely Done!
There aren't many new fantasy series out there. This one is worth giving a chance. Music selection and composition is great.
Waiting for 2nd Season.
Gutfeld! (2021)
Uggghhhhhh!
Vomit inducing cringe fest.
After running out of those terrible jokes he reverts back to old fashioned venom spewing.
Terrible!
Bombshell (2019)
Extremely fit movie. No fat only muscle.
A very intelligent take on the inside of news media's underbelly lorded over by Roger Ailes.
Pacy with multiple well written characters.
Made in Heaven (2019)
Woah! Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti pack a powerful punch
The show is well written, fast paced, filled with outstanding performances and scathing in its social commentary. It's based in Delhi where Karan (Arjun Mathur) and Tara (Shobhita) run a start-up wedding planning company catering mostly to the richer clients on arranging a dreamy big fat Indian wedding. While a scathing critique of the obnoxious and hypocritical Indian wedding scene is the main theme of the show, many other aspects of the Indian society are masterfully woven into the story. The show has a pattern and runs in sets of 3 (hence the total 9 episodes, I guess). The first two episodes are extremely tragic in their portrayal of social evils and their effects but then the third episodes rekindles the optimism with a feel good story.
Characters are fantastically written. I hate the usual narrative where things happen to characters rather than their actions/decisions progressing the storyline. This show didn't disappoint here. We have Jaspreet (aka Jazz) portrayed by Shivani Raghuvanshi who although hails from the same Delhi as her company's clients but which is in contrast with their decadent and mendacious world. Her joie de vivre despite having elderly dependant parents and an addict younger brother is downright inspiring stuff. We have a cynical and pessimist in Kabir (Shashank Arora) who loathes his work to an extent after witnessing the spurious customs and beliefs on which arranged marriages are propped. Without blaming the actress Shobhita, Tara's character is multilayered and warranted a little more time and effort. Arjun Mathur is fabulous and spot on. Kalki Koechlin and Jim Sarbh excel too but only as extensions to Shobhita's character. Would have loved to see more of Dilip Tahil. His character was absent from the tumultuous relationship between Adil (Jim) and Tara. Vinay Pathak played the character of Landlord Mr Gupta who is in the closet and lived a life in turmoil by hiding the fact with his usual charming finesse and erudition. You won't get bored even for a second. For me the third episode was the crown jewel 👑.
What an astounding show!
Gold (2018)
Movie filled with unsportsmanlike patriotism.....
This movie has some over the top patriotic themes and not much script is dedicated to the game of hockey. Akshay Kumar's Bengali accent sucks. Few players in the team have significant roles. It's all about patriotism in this movie. The game of hockey, it's intricacies should have been given a chance...
Chennai Express (2013)
Brainless Action Flick By SRK
In tandem with the current trend of commercialization of the Hindi film industry, SRK has now released a movie which is about to make it to the so called 100 crore rupees club albeit it does not deserve even 10%. What it earns is only because of the publicity and marketing gimmicks by the superstar who hopes that people should worship him like the Tamil and Telgu movie stars. The movie has a very limited story which can be explained in a minute. There are no twists. Blatant advertising is used to increase revenue. Cinematography is good but with cheap script and acting make it fall in the shadows. The entire movie is based on SRK and dipika who entirely occupy the screen space. The songs have the most mindless lyrics and numbing tunes which are easily forgotten. The most unfortunate thing is to see an aging superstar who had produced great pieces of acting in his early days resort to promoting his own acting in a film which has no original acting. Watching the movie in theater is a waste of money...
