I first saw the Airport movies as a kid; the Friday night movie specials.
I loved them! Great character development...even if, then, it went right over my head. Now, I see how cheeky they were- adultery, marriages breaking down and master airplane mechanic (George Kennedy in the first one) who just wanted some alone time (wink, wink) with his wife.
I was enthralled-the entire movie took place inside of an airplane. Great! I was going to get to know and care about these people.
The only down part for me, uniquely for me, was that my dad was an actual aerospace engineer and ruined the sequels with facts that I didn't want to hear.
"Go away, Dad, you're ruining the movie!" Fond memories now, but then...I was annoyed then. I didn't need a physics lesson. I just wanted to watch this!
This movie and the sequels all hold up. Love them! Just be careful who you watch them with...
