Ingenting å le av (2021)
Deep yet sweet
This movie has a script of real emotional intelligence, and acting to match. For me, it's the build-up, and not the actual ending, that represents the main event. The ending is essentially for wrapping things up, but the story first has unanticipated twists and moments of poignancy. Just when a more conventional turn could be expected, events take an intriguing new direction, which is satisfying in itself. As well, though, we're confronted with life's glorious and gorgeous meaninglessness - something to cry about, and nothing to laugh about, but still nevertheless something to laugh along with.

Cool message with pizazz!
I can't believe how many reviewers have complained about the lack of scientific / historic / realistically-strict logic in this film. It's a tongue-in-cheek romp, for heaven's sake! (Ever notice how the hulls of 'Star Trek' space-ships always point towards the bottom of your picture screen?) Ride with the incongruities - they exist to remind you that it's compassionately lighthearted, while nonetheless a self-reflectively edifying satire on human nature. Another complaint made several times is that the ending falls flat. Hmmm - pay closer attention to the final visual details! This movie has fun as well as profundity; it has an unpredictable engaging plot; and above all it has real style.
