Another Korean Tear Jerker with a stand out performance by Park Jung Min
28 January 2018
Once again, the great CGV Cinema in Los Angeles strikes with yet ANOTHER movie that send tears my face (1987, A TAXI DRIVER and yes, a zombie movie, the awesome TRAIN TO BUSAN)

I love just walking into that theater, not watching the trailer, reading any reviews. I use my Movie Pass and I am treated to magic! Sure, you can read what the movie is about on this page. I prefer not to and enjoy the surprises this movie presented, especially by (K Pop Star?) Park jung min, who creates a wonder performance as a stage two autistic adult.

My nitpicks: the movie is around 20 minutes too long and the last 30 minutes, a tad choppy, however, the overly journey was emotional and rewarding.

If you like great Korean cinema, check this one out as soon as you can see it. I will see again soon! Now, Im gonna watch some Park jung min videos!

W.M.D. (2013)
9/10
Tense, action-packed thriller with a touch of satire that I found refreshing!
14 April 2015
WMD was funny and intense and oh too real. Didn't have the production budget of Basterds though it had the alternate reality thing Basterds did so well. And thats not a bad thing.

WMD makes you think, all the way to the end. I do wish the movie had been released right around when creeps Bush/Cheney were in office, but all in all, fun, action packed movie.

The 2 leads, the head soldier and the president, were particularly good. As was the supporting cast! Hey they got the guy who played Jar Jar Binks to portray the CNN like news caster!

The action, special effects, camera, were well done and the editing well-paced. Music a tad predictable, but serviceable.

Noticed it was from same distributors as Boondock Saints. That's pretty cool.

If you like to see a movie that is different from the typical outings, WMD may be the ticket for you for a fun good time.

Alice in Wonderland (I) (2010)
10/10
One of Tim Burton's best film EVER!
7 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Alice in Wonderland is a spectacular film, one of Tim's best ever. The production design was mind blowing. COmbine this with IMAX 3-D effects and it gives Avatar a run for the money. Everything was great: The imagination of the characters, the funny lines, the special effects, Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts was funny as hell, Johnny Depp was mesmerizing and funny as usual and the girl who played Alice was beautiful and sexy at the same time! Even the simple story was strongly effective and creative. And Danny Elfman's score, top notch.

DO not get the mixed reviews on this one. Saw with a PACKED crowd, strong applause at the end.

See this 5 out of 5 star movie today. Worthy of it's $117 million box office opening.

The Objective (2008)
9/10
I Loved this movie
29 April 2008
A thinking man's psychological thriller, The Objective takes you on a journey that will chill you AND make you think. I saw this at Tribeca and it was a sell out with most of the audience staying for the intelligent Q and A, always a good sign.

The music too was very strong, as was the performances of all the actors involved.

If you're seeking a different movie, one that is original in story, tone and character, THE OBJECTIVE is a must see for you!

A fun film!

I say check it out big-time!

Enchanted (2007)
9/10
A great, fun, Disney classic!
2 November 2007
First off, I want to say that, there is a comment on this thread where someone calls Enchanted disturbing, should be rated R, etc. It is obvious she did not see the film. This reviewer is high, and, this review should be removed.

Enchanted was a surprisingly great, fun modernized Cinderella tale, including 3 show- stopping musical numbers where the test audience applauded after each song.

Amy Adams is perfect, James Marsden, once again, as he was in Hairspray, was very appealing. I felt Patrick Dempsey was good, if not a tad old for the part, and, his fiancé was OK, nothing spectacular. (in fact, I feel this movie would have worked a bit better if Dempsey had a good girl "friend" vs a fiancé).

That being said, I loved the message this movie teaches to children, that is, get to know someone before saying "i do" (as is the message with way too many princess movies, and is the reason why too many suffer youthful failed marriages.

Enchanted was great fun, and very funny! A must see!

Happy Feet (2006)
10/10
The best Computer Animated Film EVER!
26 November 2006
Yes, you read that right. Happy Feet, directed by George "Babe" Miller, a man who takes chances, who has edge, has created not only a wonderfully musical, colorful, artful film, he has made a film with great thought and messages. When this movie was over, I had tears in my eyes and stood in applause with others.

Try to see on Imax, which is in a movie class by itself! HAPPY FEET: It's Moulin Rouge meets March of the Penguins meets the best of Pixar meets...an INCONVENIENT TRUTH! If you hate Sea World and how they cage animals for profit, this film is especially for you! You will tap happy out of the theater, I assure you that!
