Shaitaan (2024)
What a truck load of garbage
The movie bored me to death. The script was extremely weak and the actors severely under utilized. The script has simply too many loop holes for any person with average intelligence. R. Madhavan was the only saving grace to an extent but the weak script was severe injustice to his character.
Ajay Devgan with that bland face looked stupid throughout the movie and Jyotika Sadhna followed suit.
Such plots are done a lot of times in western movies so for Indians not accustomed to such will be euphoric but once they discover the OGs, they will understand how weak the whole premise was.
Movies such as these should rely on environment, suspense, intermittent thrills, acting and again a good script.
An Action Hero (2022)
Ayushman keeps elevating himself
Quite an entertaining flick that takes you in a stress free roller coaster ride with a simple but compelling script. Ayushman is the star, super star and an action hero throughout.
I keep getting impressed on how he elevates himself to different personas. Some of the side actors' roles could have been more emphatic but they do the job for a nice and entertaining movie that feels gripping making the viewers yearning for more. The main antagonist played by Jaideep Ahlawat was fun to watch as well, I so wished that he could have given more.
I feel glad that opportunities like these are being created/explored in Indian cinema. Its a break from the age old typical romance melodramas filled with item songs and just songs in general. Suggested watch for most people unless those that would go with too much of an expectation from what can I sum up as a descent entertaining popcorn flick.
Ved (2022)
Incoherent, average
Went with the hype surrounding this and was left pretty disappointed. The overall story was very predictable and monotonous and the acting from leads pretty average except from Jiya Shankar to an extent . She felt like a breath of fresh air. The side actors were good in their roles though with Ashok Saraf being his usual self. Ritesh seemed severely under utilized and was mute most of the second half of the movie whereas Genelia though cute as usual needs to work more on her Marathi dialogue delivery. The movie felt driven mostly by the sound track than its script or its actors. It is a good one time watch over the weekend at big screens if you are done with other options, otherwise I can suggest to wait for this to be released on OTT platforms.
Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022)
Alia proves herself once again
Dives deep into the world of prostitution and flesh trade that's often unexplored territory of modern cinema. Sanjay Leela Bhansali did an extremely great job with cinematography and presentation and one of the best hallmarks was Alia's performance. She keeps proving herself and silencing her critics with her performances. Her expressions, dialogue delivery and overall charisma was impeccable throughout the movie. This is one of those movies that connects with you deeply. Although a bit long, but a must see!
Funny Games (1997)
Nothing to see here, move on
I have seldom tried to watch the movies rated highly by critics. And, yes I do go by the critics reviews by heart. But in the case of this movie, I suppose the critics have gone awfully wrong. I mean unless the critics themselves have seen this type of genre more than enough, they would be in a good position to review this title. I am sorry but I have seen better than this and this was like total waste of time. The movie's pace is too slow, it is not that gripping and the story line is much too predictable. The movie failed to grip my attention as a horror thriller should have. These type of dark movies generally end with a sad ending or a mixed emotion ending - leaving something for the viewer. This movie left neither, the acting seemed awful, the direction was awkward or perhaps this movie could have been shot by any amateur. All in all a total waste of my time!
