Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Well shot, high budget, good sound, but ruined by poor plot choices.
I'll start by saying that I didn't find Pedro Pascal's acting bad at all, as some others have. The acting made you just feel "off" about him and felt like he was lying/acting to you... which is exactly who that character was.
The acting beyond that was fine, and the movie had good cinematography and sound.
The plot for the first 75% of the movie is also actually pretty good.
Unfortunately, I think that's where the positives end.
The fight scenes were absolutely horrible. The choreography was terrible, it looked like Gal Gadot was just floating around in water every time she jumped. I'm definitely not one to cite physics in superhero movies, but they play with the little things like running, jumping, etc. And your brain just can't help but notice how weird it looks. It really takes you out of the movie unfortunately.
The overall plot, fine. But it ends under the assumption that every single person in the entire world took back their wish... Every. Single. Person. Like wtf?? This doesn't even make sense since many people didn't even realize they had made wishes. There are also a massive amount of plot holes and just bad writing that I'm not going to pick apart, I'm sure there are plenty of others who already have.
I probably would've rated this movie a 5 or even a 6, but it just went straight down hill for the last 30 minutes. That ending just pushed it over the edge and I gotta give it a 4.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
Visible happiness
Quite possible the best 46 minutes of anything I've ever watched.
Make sure you watch post credits...
Geostorm (2017)
Just... Meh
Coming from an actual Geologist, this movie is *incredibly* unrealistic, but really that's not the point, so let's take all that stuff as part of the setting of the movie and move on.
It's still just mediocre. Not terrible, but definitely not good either. I'd probably watch it if I were bored and had absolutely nothing else that peaked my interest, but I wouldn't choose it over most movies.
The Witcher (2019)
Favorite TV show to date. Absolutely amazing.
This show is absolutely stunning. The filmography makes me feel like I'm watching artwork as I go through the story. The music and sound is some of the best I've ever heard in any TV series, and probably any movies. It is truly a work of art, not to mention to superb writing and acting. The visual effects and sound adds an entire layer of depth to the story that is so rare.
The story is great. I have been a fan of the Witcher game series since they came out, and dabbled a bit in the books. The writers really do the characters and the original story justice, and do an incredible job at pulling you into the lives of the characters and taking you along in their journey.
One thing to note that people may find tough: the first few episodes are taking place in 3 separate timelines. It's filmed in a way that you don't need to know this going in, but you will reach a point where you get confused and recognize what's going on. This way portraying the stories works incredibly well in the end, and makes a rewatch that much more enjoyable.
10/10!!
Lion (2016)
Great execution, great story
The movie is filmed very well, great picture, great sound, good acting and attention to detail. The story is also great (especially being based on a true story).
If this fits your preferred genre you will literally *love* it.
Most people will really like this movie even if it's not their preferred genre. Just don't go into it expecting anything suspenseful and gripping.
I rated it a 6/10 because it's all done so well and is a great story, it just didn't really pull me in and make me want to hold on to every second, or leave me wanting to ever watch it again.
How It Ends (2018)
How did it end?
Literally I don't even know how "How it Ends" ends...
Good except the ending.
ARQ (2016)
Unexpectedly Awesome
Went in expecting a very mediocre movie, it was actually great. All I'm gunna say is that the ending is freaking awesome!
Great movie!!
The Titan (2018)
Good execution, poor story
It was filmed well, visually striking, music was done well, acting was good, good *idea* for a story, tons of plot holes. Tons. In fact, that's really the only thing wrong with this movie. If you can get over, or don't care about things like that, watch it and enjoy it. If you can't get over big plot holes and whatnot, do not watch the movie cause you'll hate it.
Backcountry (2014)
Surprisingly Good!
This is definitely a low budget film, so don't expect amazing special effects and the whole nine yards. That being said, great movie. Its "based" off a true story so the premise, the people and the places are all pretty accurate so you can't really wine about the old "why did they go left they should have gone right" thing. Has you in suspense from the moment it picks up until the end of the movie (It does start off a little slow). But by the time the movie was over I was surprised it had already been 90 minutes because the rest of the movie flew by with me on the edge of my seat. I definitely recommend watching this movie! It will give you a whole new perspective on the realities of backpacking in bear territory, and the importance of being well prepared!
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Great movie, but trying to promote social agenda
The new Mad Max is a great movie, with non stop action. Minimal to no story line line, but thats what you'd expect from a movie like this, so thats not really a bad thing. The action is great, the stunts and CG are awesome. That being said, it really seams like the director/ writers are trying to promote a social agenda. The whole movie is about the women being the action heroes. In fact, there are a number of scenes where Max is helpless, being saved by the women. I have nothing against the women thing, but the main action hero should not have to constantly be saved by the costar. Its not as simple as just "who's more hard-core", they actually built the entire story about woman fighting against the men who are all bad except for the two "good" guys in the entire movie. So, ultimately, great action movie; but be prepared for a social agenda.
Dexter: Remember the Monsters? (2013)
Worst ending to the best show ever
I give this show 10/10, and i don't do that often. This episode however, 1/10. Let me sum this ending up.
Dexter says bye to Deb, giving her his last kill (very heartwarming, he's turning over a new leaf). A US Marshall then releases the now most wanted killer in the US (Why the f### a Marshall does not recognize this as the man all over the news who has been sawing people's heads in half is beyond me) while releasing this man from the table the Marshall dies, the killer gets the gun and shoots Deb. Did they do a dramatic, sad death? No. They make her into a vegetable living off the machine. Dexter then avenges her death by killing the antagonist (so much for that new leaf). He then goes back to the hospital and kills Deb and dumps her body in the ocean (dramatically) with all the other killers and rapists he's put there over the years. Oh, but not before abandoning his son and his would-be wife to Argentina... alone. Then sails off into the hurricane... and lives. To begin his life anew. Without Hanna. Without his son. Without anybody from the life he's built that he's come to truly love (As this season has tried so hard to point out.) All to emerge..... a lumberjack. A f##king lumberjack.
Worst. Finale. Ever.
Man of Steel (2013)
Great Movie, best Superman so far!
This was a great movie, I would see it again in a heartbeat.
Its completely different from any Superman you've seen before this, so go in with an open mind. I have to be honest, i went into this movie not expecting much since it got so many bad reviews, but don't listen to them, they're dumb. BEST Superman so far. There was a TON of action, some of it may look a little "Mortal Combat-ish" because of the super fast movement and fighting. I don't want to give anything away but we'll just say they added some "space stuff" and it was awesome. thats where i think it differs greatly from the other superman's. but they didn't ruin it with that by any means, in fact i wish they could make a prequel off of this haha! The actors chosen for their roles were perfect. Henry Cavill is the absolute best choice for this, Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner played their roles great, the actors were chosen well. All around a great movie
