Big Vape: The Rise and Fall of Juul (2023)
So stupid
Started off interesting. Then took a nose dive. I quit smoking over a pack a day thanks to vaping. I'm failing to see how the advertising was aimed at teens. The models looked to be in their 20's. Teens are idiots. That's how I started smoking at 15. And it wasn't from commercials 🙄. For everyone crying about their poor teens vaping, would you prefer cigarettes? Because that's what they would have gone. It's called harm reduction ppl. How about parents start taking accountability for their spawn.
News flash mom and dad!! Your precious teens are drinking! And having sec! Gasp, clutches pearls.
13 Minutes (2021)
Great movie!!!
I absolutely loved this!! I am in no way, shape or form, part of the wokey pokey crowd. I think this was a very real portrayal of real life. These reviews are ridiculous. This took place in OK, not the freaking south. Apparently all the reviewers find it completely inconceivable parents would disown their gay son. Surprise!! Welcome to the real world snowflakes. Not everyone has to approve of the lives of others. Might not always be right, but it's a fact.
I thought all of the characters were interesting and well played. The movie is about how peoples lives intersect. Not just a tornado. It kind of reminded me of Crash. It also made me grateful I live in Buffalo. We might get snow, but overall no devastating weather events.
Daddy's Little Girl (2014)
O.M.G
This is one of the most messed up movies I've seen. I've seen a lot! If you are a fan of torture porn like I am, watch this!! You do have to be patient. I was about to shut this off I was so bored, but I thought to give in another 10 minutes. So glad I did!!
Starts slow, then BAM! That escalated quick! A 6 year old girl was murdered. 6 months later the cops have no leads and her dad is really suffering. He comes across something indicating who the killer is. Next thing you knows we've got screws in persons head, fingers getting cut off turn dipped into hot wax. I won't even go into the pipe and barbed wire. The ending was exactly what I wanted to see too. I really loved this movie! Even got a few laughs in.
Small Town Remedies (2020)
Excellent movie
I can't believe no one has rated this movies. This is an accurate portrayal of a family dealing with addiction, mental health, enabling, sex, cheating, divorce and an unexpected pregnancy. This spoke to me as it is a reflection of my own dysfunctional family.
Sure, the acting wasn't the best. The lead actress could have toned it down and she would have been 100% better. Having been a mental health counselor and living this life, I appreciate when something isn't sugar coated. I enjoy watching movies/documentaries dealing with what society doesn't want to openly talk about and sweep under the rug. We don't have enough funding to help treat mental health and additions. We're in a very bad, sad situation for people who need, and want help.
Eighth Grade (2018)
God awful
I can't understand the high scores on this. I was cringing so bad the entire time this was on, I had to scroll through FB. I know all about being the weird, middle school outcast so Im always rooting for the underdog. This girl has no likable or redeeming qualities. No one is watching her dumb ass videos. THEN there's how she treats her dad like absolute trash. This doesn't even cut it as background noise. If I had to hear her say Gucci again I was going to throw up in my mouth. Never had/wanted kids and watching this I was thinking, man I'm glad I don't need to deal with a preteen/teen. I'll stick to dogs!!
Purple Hearts (2022)
Can't stand the lead character.
There are some tear jerker moments for sure. Having said that, the lead character is utterly unlikable. She's the embodiment of the woke crowd . Her singing is like nails on a chalkboard. She basically wore a an old school nightgown to their 'wedding .' Having says that, the plot is very good and believable. Big pharma is disgusting and criminal in this country. I'm someone on multiple Rx's. It's appalling people struggle to get life saving, NECESSARY medications.
Silo (2019)
I was on the edge of my seat!!
What a ride! I can't imagine the utter terror that all 3 of them felt when the grain started to get drained. I just kept putting myself in Cody's shoes and feeling you were totally facing death. Not being able to breath. Being chest deep in that grain with asthma. I can't imagine the guilt Jr felt for letting his dad have what was in his brain, match reality. Also Frank, needing to save Cody as he was part of the reason Cody's dad died. Woo, my pulse is still racing!
Ditched (2021)
Great premise
I'm giving this a 7 because of all the crappy ratings. Yes, the acting is terrible. The guy strapped to the gurney was amusing. What was with the orchids?? BUT the idea/story line is really good!! Now if Eli Roth had done this it would have been incredible. I thought we'd never find out what everyone did so it keeps you watching. I hate that it left me wondering if Melina really did what she was accused of.
Time of Death (2013)
Terrible acting.
Tough, hardened, FBI agents sleeps with young, rookie detective. Idiotic. There you've seen it. They look/act exactly the same age. Eye roll. Incredibly stupid.
The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (2009)
Sterilize them all
I had to shut this off I was so disgusted. I thought this might be some Duck Dynasty type documentary. What a vile bunch of human beings. Why were they given 15 minutes of fame? To glamorize drugs, child abuse and violence? Their government benefits should have been stripped the second this disgusting piece of crap film was released.
Kelly & Cal (2014)
Watched for Juliette Lewis
I was absolutely cringing the entire time. The screaming baby, the doormat Lewis plays, drinking and making out with a minor, vandalizing the high school in which the cops show up but they're not arrested...Sigh. I wanted to see her as the bad ass she usually plays. This was NOT it. I wanted to see her push back against those awful in-laws esp when SIl asked her what's wrong with her, and all she says is 'I don't know.' Ask SIl what hell is wrong with her!! She proceeds to strip for Cal after he rips her in pieces?! Seriously?? Cal's mom would have called the cops on her as well after he flips out telling the truth at the art show. Still convinced hubby was having an affair.
August: Osage County (2013)
One of the best movies I've seen in a while!
I almost didn't watch this as I can't STAND Julia Roberts. I wanted to watch for Juliette Lewis who I love. I thought my family was messed up! The secrets keep coming!! I really hate to admit it, but Julia was really great. Juliette on the other hand, I prefer her in the typical degenerate roles we all love her for (shout out to you Yellowjackets and my all time fav Natural Born Killers). This is a damn good movie that'll make you feel better about your own life.
Funny Games (2007)
Don't waste your time
I wish I didn't spend $3 to rent this or I would have stopped before the end. I have to stop watching these highly rated movies, they're always disappointing. This was incredibly boring. Not a big fan of Naomi Watts either. The reviews that say this is grotesque or disturbing don't watch much horror.
Trade (2007)
Not bad!!
I had just finished a WWII movie and wasn't in the mood for more subtitles. However I got drawn in. Scut Farcus (sorry Zack Ward lol) is a WILDY underrated actor!! He's part of the reason I kept watching, he plays a great a** hole. It will keep your attention but I take issues with the escape scene. Really?! REALLY? Also, the girl didn't need to do THAT. Dude, just cut or bite yourself. Fingerprints?? Come on!! The ending was rather satisfying but Jorge signed his own death certificate. Anyone else think she's just going to get kidnapped again?
Choose or Die (2022)
This was great!
I love a good, messed horror with games involved. It's no Saw or Spiral, but it really hits the spot. It held my interest right from the start and I have the attention span of a 2 year old. The length was perfect. Honestly I could have watched more and if there was a sequel I won't not be mad!!
Chained (2012)
WOWZA!!
LOVE ME SOME VINCENT D'ONOFRIO!!! No one else could have played Gomer Pile 😬. I HIGHLY recommend watching Chained if you want to watch him in another really messed up role. Excellent movie.
House with 100 Eyes (2013)
Wasted Potential!
I love a good torture porn, and it's here with this movie! The girl in the cage 😬! However, I feel like I had to watch most of it with little to no sound. THE EAR PIERCING NOISE IT UNBEARABLE!! Which also bled into the screaming. What in the actual F value was supposed to add?? Edge? Creepy? I seriously felt like my ear drums were going to bleed or get blown out. When it ended I want to keep watching more as the gore was great!
The Quiet (2005)
Elisha Cuthbert is wildly underrated
Love Elisha, she was awesome in House of Wax. Edie Falco was great as well. This movie is f-ed up!!!!' First of all, how the hell can you pretend to be deaf?!?!! Jumping at sounds and scares is involuntary. How can you borderline enjoy sleeping with your father?!!! My skin was crawling the whole time.
Tormented (2009)
Has a little bit of everything.
This gets a 7 because I don't care for British movies or shows. I laughed, I cringed I really liked it! I'm still wondering if Darren (why did they have no name him Mullet??) was a figment of her imagination and she really did it. The Macbeth reference makes me think so.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
AMAZING!!!
This is the BEST horror I have seen in a looooong time!! I'm a huge fan of the torture genre. First of all, I busted out laughing when they were talking about Forest Gump. I thought Chris Rock did a PHENOMENAL job in a serious role. My fingers and toes are crossed for a sequel. I didn't like the ending for Samuel L. Jackson as my dad is my best friend 😔. Dads are dogs are the 2 things I can't watch getting hurt.
Hounds of Love (2016)
Boring
2 stars due to the ending. Started off promising then went downhill. This was so boring and drawn out. I don't think I would have even watched this had I known about the dog.
Knock Knock (2015)
Messed up but worth the watch
The acting is beyond atrocious, and I love Keanu Reeves. I'm now convinced Ana de Armas only plays the roles of horrible human beings.
Having said that, it gets a 5 because it's SOOO messed up!! 14 (?) years with your wife and you now cheat because a couple of skanks show up? They may be sad, but true. But to then DESTROY everything, kill someone and psychologically torture someone!! AND crying tape. What in the actual hell??!?!
Deep Water (2022)
Why the hate?
I really liked this!! Ben's acting in this is amazing. His wife is the most unlikable person, ever, in a movie. Loved the daughter. Loved the ending. This had my attention from the start, and I have the attention span of a 2 year old. I really don't understand all these reviews saying this was boring.
The Righteous Gemstones (2019)
HILARIOUS
Danny McBride is wildly underrated!!! This show is amazing. Do yourself a favor and binge watch this!! There is lots of male nudity which is also hilarious.
Nuit et brouillard (1956)
Haunting.
I have been fascinated with the Holocaust since I was young. Hence, have read many books, mostly autobiographical and seen many documentaries. This was by far the most haunting, unsettling and disturbing documentary I have ever scene. I had to just sit in silence crying after.
