The One (2021)
Not quite like the book
This series showcases stories that are similar to the ones in the book but aren't quite the same. Overall quite good and I didn't mind how they added more for the founder's story but I feel like they still could've concluded it like the book rather than doing it such that one might think there could be another season.
It could've had a second season but I think it would've been too dragged out and possibly over dramaticized and taken away from the core idea. Generally quite glad they chose to do it as a limited series rather than try to squish it into a movie as that certainly would've been disappointing.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
It's good, but...
As an avid reader of the Shadowhunter Chronicles books, I have some issues with the series. For the most part it's fine, and the series is good in its own way, but what I don't understand is why they killed Jocelyn. She doesn't die in the books at all! Nor does Isabelle lowkey become a drug addict or Alec suggest marrying the Branwell girl. It's interesting, I suppose that the writers did actually read The Infernal Devices (hence yin fen and Branwell showed up), but why they felt they should include them and screw up the plot.
So at this point, I'm not sure if I'm watching the show for enjoyment or to see how the changes play out.
Similarly to the Death Note movie, if you don't know what it's based on, it's good.

F*&% the Prom (2017)
Taken as a satire
I'm not entirely sure if it was intended to be so, but I assumed the movie was a satirical take on prom and other teen movies highlighting the event. It's entirely cringey and made me want to turn it off pretty much the whole time but I still wanted to see what would happen next????
There is one point where the movie is, perhaps, less satirical and slightly more serious when Cole gives a speech at prom, which, in my opinion, has some validity.
Watch it, don't watch it, it's up to you, but I wouldn't take it seriously.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013)
Such a disappointment
I'd heard the Immortal Instruments series was very good and so I read them. I love the books, which are 100 times better than the movie. The entire plot was changed, characters were different from the book, too. To me, it seems that someone drunk attempted to describe the book and the writers made that the script. I wonder if any of the people involved in the script actually read the book(s).
They did use some of the quotes from the book but they really just seemed to take some quotes from the book, make some scenes which vaguely resemble those in the book at times and throw the quotes in there. They left out many important parts of the book and sadly, the end of the book and movie are about as similar as black and white.
I felt generous and gave a 2 due to my love of the books.
To me, this destroyed the wonder of the books. I sincerely hope it's redone.
