The A-Team (2010)
7/10
Better than I thought
3 June 2013
When this was first announced I was thinking. 'Why, what's the point?' For anyone that grew up watching the A-Team on TV, I think the idea of Joe Carnahan rebooting it was blasphemy. I expected an absolute stinker, with too much cheese and not enough of the things that made us love the show. Casting Rampage Jackson as BA, and the guy from District 9 as Murdock. Got to say I thought it would be rubbish. I take it back. I thought it was actually pretty fun. I thought that all the actors in the A-Team played their parts really well. The plot was pretty much nonsense, but I guess thats one of the things I always loved about the TV show anyway. I don't expect that this will get a sequel cos i don't think it made enough money, but i bet they try to reboot it again in the next 10 years. As for this one, I thought it had the spirit of the A-Team and was a pretty good film.

War Games (2010)
9/10
Cool little flick
3 June 2013
I thought that War Games was one of those really nice surprises. Its one of those films that you end up catching by chance that turns out to be a nasty, cool little movie. Its about some kids who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and get messed with by the wrong people. It's kind of similar to pretty much every movie like that, that you have ever seen, except what I thought was cool is that the film creates this really cool atmosphere, and really shows the beauty of the nature of the wilderness that the kids have gone to. Its kinda strange that this nasty stuff is happening in such a beautiful setting. Most of the characters are pretty generic, cardboard cutouts, but the actors do a good job with them, and keep you interested in their fates. I think on the whole, War Games works best when it catches you unaware, one of those films that lets you drift into it, and suddenly it's got you, and I love finding films like this.

Looper (2012)
9/10
Awesome film
3 June 2013
Got to be as far as I am concerned at least, the most interesting and satisfying sci-fi film that I have seen in years. Okay, there are plot elements and devices that have been used many times before. Even just having Bruce Willis in the film reminded me somewhat of Twelve Monkeys given the time travel connections, but what really set this film apart from anything that has recently preceded it was that the narrative was strong, and the characters, particularly the younger and older versions of Joe were well drawn out characters with flaws, but just enough likability to keep us rooting for them. Johnson has delivered another really cool film to add to the list of really cool films that he has already made. I wonder, seriously if there is a more interesting and fresh director out there at the moment.

Unbreakable (2000)
8/10
Very clever film
3 June 2013
I cant believe it has taken me so many years to finally watch this film. I remember when it came out. It was just after the sixth sense and everybody was going mad for it. It didn't disappoint. I thought that the film was gripping from start to finish. The story reveals itself very deftly, and both Samuel L Jackson and Bruce Willis are as good as they probably ever will be. What I liked about the film is that unlike some of his more recent films, the 'twist' in Unbreakable packs a pretty big punch at the end, but it's also subtle enough so that it doesn't detract from the overall film. It also has a solid plot that keeps you interested throughout instead of just scratching your head confused, waiting for the final reel reveal.
