I had to hold the control in my hand because the music would be too loud and the dialog too low. Good cast, though. If it hadn't been for the all-star cast, I probably wouldn't have chosen it to start with. I have never been disappointed with a Samuel Jackson movie, although I didn't recognize him at first. Leonardo DeCaprio plays a villain with glee. It was well acted and believable. It was a fairly good story, I like to watch a film that strays from the average and predictable, especially in westerns. It well filmed, with beautiful scenery. I recognized the Grand Tetons. But the film was way too long and bloody. I spent the last half hour just hoping for it all to end.

When I saw the previews for this movie I was sure that it had to be a winner. Just look at the cast. George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Brad Bitt, John Malcovich.......all winners in my book.
I didn't get to the theater to see it so when it was available on Pay for View I watched it. What a waste of time and money. No real plot. Confusing storyline. I heard more forms of the F word than I had ever heard before. If you had taken that four letter word out of the script, it would have been a the shortest script on record. Mindless props. For example, the chair that George Clooney's character is building in his basement.
It wasn't a comedy, it wasn't a drama, it wasn't a mystery. When it was over I wanted to call the cable company and demand my money back. If I were any of these wonderful actors I would be ashamed to be associated with this picture. All I can say is they must have needed the money real bad.

The most unusual western I have ever seen

Wow! That is all I can think of....wow!!! I have never been glued to the screen like I was with this movie. It is strange and unusual and there were times that I wasn't sure what was happening or why, but the visual effects are unlike anything I have seen before. I found the scenery gorgeous and breathtaking. I watched with interest to see just where it was filmed. The cast is very good. The main character I am unfamiliar with but there are a lot of good character actors in this movie. Geoffrey Lewis and his daughter Juliette play father and daughter. Ernest Borgnine is cast as "Rolling Star", a sheriff confined to a wheel chair. All of the characters are strong and well acted and the computer generated sequences are majestic and at the same time, eerie.
If you are like me and find it hard to sit through the predictable movie, you will want to put this movie on your "must see" list. I recommend it highly!!

Wonderful love story

"The Notebook" is a beautifully written and filmed love story ranks right on top along with "Terms of Endearment" and "Love Story". James Garner's narration adds to the smooth flash-backs that illustrate the couple's first meeting, and resulting summer romance. Gena Rawlands grace and beauty is timeless. Their "love/hate start as a couple will be identifiable to many, I am sure. It could be compared to a present day Romeo and Juliet. The span of years covered in the flashbacks is flawed only in the casting of the two young suitors. In my opinion, their characters should have been reversed. It was difficult to imagine that Ryan Gosling's young man could mature to look like.....Well, you be the judge. The film is beautiful and I guarantee it will stand the test of time and become a romantic "classic".

It is hard to believe this movie was made over 30 years ago. Don't let the fact that it was made in 1972 influence your decision to see it. It is as exciting today as it was then. I never miss a chance to see it, as I pick up new details each time. The scene when the cruise ship turns over is especially awesome. The actors are well cast. There is just a sprinkling of comedy to take the edge off the drama. Gene Hackman plays his part well. I have never been disappointed by this actor. The main characters compliment each other well. They are all familiar faces, but they become the people they are playing. Hollywood has not remade this movie because they can't improve on it.
