Shadow Nation (2019)
A stripped down take on justice, music, and its role in making it
This film obviously had hours of extra footage and i could have watched it all. Cutting it down into a quicker consumption took a lot away from it. It was great to see them attempt to look at the idea of justice for first nations people and the role of music. It felt raw, real, and authentic. Ive always had mad respect for George Lynch, this just cemented it even more. It really felt like the final version just did not spend enough time on each individual idea. The afflictions on the native population, including some self reflection on behavior that can change on their own part, was good to see. I feel like it would have made John Trudell happy for a moment in time.
Humanity's End (2008)
Not half bad - way better than expected
I'm going to give this film high ratings for being more ambitious than the film had the budget for. It was hurried and skipped around too fast - this COULD have been a Babylon 5 type series where you ignore the okay special effects for character, story, and plot. The character acting was forced (the women were all better than the men), but the plot was actually creative and warranted more of a short series than a film. Back story was good and creative as well. Despite this obviously being a low budget film, something makes you want to like this... and I also wonder if they searched for a male lead who sounds like Han Solo. The voice sound actually contributed to a lot of the acceptance of that character... but without the class.
