Killing Them Softly (2012)
big let down
was looking forward to seeing this and with such a cast I thought it could not go wrong....but it did, it was ordinary to say the least. Poor quality left field dialogue through out, as if the actors were simply asked to improvise. I had a chuckle when i read some reviews stating you need to be an intellectual to get the drift of this sorry piece of filmaking. Some of those types of reviews are actually sillier than the movie. I would imagine Brad will look back on this one with some trepidation. Gandolfo must have cringed at his script but put his hand out for the pay check never the less. And Mendleson another fav actor of mine doing his best with the limited material. There is only one director I can think of that has set the bar for unassociated banter and that is Tarantino and this movie is a poor copy in that area.
The Mechanic (2011)
Well I liked it
It takes a lot to keep me interested in a movie these days, might be an age thing and I am a bit of a stickler for realism, but I really enjoyed this movie. I can't say I remember the original so it was a new one for me, the thing that keeps me involved in a movie like this is no matter how silly it gets if it can remain somewhat believable then I'm in. OK some will question my grasp on believability but I think most will know where I'm coming from. Stratham will mostly be type cast for the rest of his career but if he keeps offering up efforts like this then I will fill a seat , he is good in this as were the the rest of the cast. Good show. As I said earlier regarding realism the only thing that stuck out for me on short recollection was when they were target shooting a blank casing was filmed leaving the breach in slow mo.,( in other words there wasn't much in this movie to put me off) Recommend it.
Gunfight at La Mesa (2010)
Terrible
Totally agree with the other critic. Not worth the trouble of renting and no amount of alcohol could make it watchable. The director and actors should reconsider their vocations because making movies is certainly not their go.
Maybe if they had repackaged this tripe as a black comedy then maybe it would get a star. I love a good western and unfortunately there are fewer these days, which is a shame especially when ones like this rear their ugly heads. The fight scenes were laughable and the story line was totally clichéd so in closing I would like to reiterate, don't even bother with this one.
