Testament: The Story of Moses (2024)
Exodus 3:7," And God said unto Moses, I am that I am"
First of all, besides the blaspheming in the first scene where the god of the testament of Moses states "I am what I am". Let's talk about the fact that Moses found himself a good wife in Zipporah I'm the middle of the dessert, when I can't find out at my local coffee shop. Is this fantasy? Now other than the notion of god being a thing or an it pervading the entire theme of the documovie. I find it highly insightful, the fact that Moses is depected a psychopath who has an outburst of murdous rage unleashed upon a guard, as a result of the guard shoving a slave over with his foot. I feel a bit better about myself seeing as Moses had some clear issue with discipline and self control, yet the good Lord found cause to use him for a purpose. As well as the fact I am yet to lump a bloke over the head with a block...... relatively. I do feel like I may just sit in the company of the prophets of the old testament in the upper echelon. I however cannot get over the fact that the opening statement of the movie was "I am what I am", which is the complete polar oppose to who God states he is in the Bible. It begs the question, who is this Moses, these Israelites and the testament brought forth upon them? Do you ever wonder how insane, barbaric and savage the Israelites must have been for them to receive morale and ethical instruction not to sleep with another man's wife or commit murder, documented onto a stone and narrated by a burning bush. In order for them to develop a morale compass. Let alone parting seas and wondering in the wilderness for however long they did. In comparison to his day and age. One would wonder where is the faith? Never the less is Moses was parting seas and turning staffs into snakes, we would pretty much be able to levitate, fly, have the force, light sabers and flying cars. We really are going backwards. Now, I can't help but ask myself. If Moses was an Israelite raised amongst Egyptions and the Israelites were enslaved amongst the Egyptians, shouldn't there have been district and distinguishing features in their comparison whether they were lighter or darker. A great effort was made in the setting of the scenes but I do feel a little bit more could have been done. I can go on and on, however I shall concluded and continue to emphasize the magnitude and significance of the error of the description of Gods character and personality which depicts him as a ornament we pray, praise and worship. Now, unfortunetly I haven't had any uncounted with a burning bush but I am sure that's not the case.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Good old Idris
Idris really does bring his own flavour and sauce to his films. He never does disappoint, however he did in the fighting scenes of the fallen sun. I really expected him to pack more of punch. It would've made all the more difference in the movie seeing as his escape was pretty much the opening scene. On the other hand, the fighting scenes was realistic, as I felt his struggle in overcoming his opponents to stay alive. It really gave the movie a relatable feel as not everyone is a martial arts specialist. I wasn't left with any delusions of being able to single handedly take on 10+ opponents. Where did he get is phone from? It may as well have been a magic tragic how he just shipped it out from under his mattress. A back story would've been nice as not everyone has watched the Luther series including myself. His prison break was simple, a bit more excitement would've done the job. I really didn't know what was going on. Why he ended in prison, who the random guy sending him a letter to tune into a radio was. How did he know he had a radio? A lot more could've been done with this movie to really take it up a noche. Otherwise, it was great cinematics, acting and casting. My round of applause. It was pretty graphic and gruesome which really peak my curiosity, even more so why we should've gotten to know the demented criminal a little bit more. Another great film starring Idris. I do recommend watching it.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
How did we get here!
I am sure Kong was wondering, when he was taken from the warm embrace of his natural habitat to a land of no return. I thought he belonged somewhere in the Jungle of the congo but it seems Kong somehow wondered far from home. How long would he have been away from Inner earth for his natural environment to have been dominated by prehistoric flying dinosaurs. I wonder to myself. Our Kong must've had a rough upbringing which inevitably lead to his escape from inner earth and his separation from his troop. I am surprised Kong wasn't civilized and developed the ability to speak but I suppose sign language does it's due diligence. After all Kong was wondering around aimlessly enjoying what would've been paradise in comparison to the harsh conditions of the inner earth, somewhat like finding the promise land and being forcibly taken against his will to be put to good use. It can only be left the imagination where humanity would be if Godzilla hadn't found a contender to his savagery and was left to run Amok. A back story of how such titans came to exist and developed into such monstrosities unaware would be justifiable to the catastrophic damage they cause. Besides the stunning display of these beasts the cast was well chosen and story had a great build up to the teeth gritting, fist clinching action that left me on the edge of my seat. A gap well bridged between what would be primitive wild animal that built an eye watering tender bond with a young girl in a great display of emotional intelligence lacking in the greater humanity at large. Who as well as the rest of the cast contributed to an unforgettable experiences besides the plot wholes.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Reptiles X Mammals
I am slightly relieved that Kong doesn't end up eaten by Godzilla. He did a great job at taking the barbaric beast. It was lovely to see Kong amongst his peers, although I kind of lost the plot on how he was reunited in with them when they were MIA in Kong Vs Godzilla. I must not have been paying attention but I am sure we were given the suggestion that they went extinct in the first prequal. I absolutely loved the humour, soundtracks were befitting. I didn't quit understand where Little Zilla came from. I am sure Godzilla and son is somewhere in the works. I expected a little more from Tiamat, she came to an anti climatic end. I would've expected to see more of her abilities as her reputation was not becoming of her end. Hopefully she left an egg somewhere. I absolutely loved Kongs sidekick despite the fact he was ginger, which really reflected his firey spirit. We really did come a long way from Kong habituating in the jungle to originating from inner earth, it's a big gap.
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
I fell asleep both times I watched the film, I am due a third watch.
Being subject to racism over the years and getting told to go back to where I came from. For me watching this movie seemed like a glimpse into my past life.
Hopefully, not as Koba as I would like to see myself as one of the apes, playing a key rope in the fight for equality and cohesion of humans and apes.
I fell asleep solely because I was so entrenched in the film and each scene as it unravelled. It felt like I was there drifting in and out of consciousness due to the traumas of war.
Having discovered the planet of the apes 1968 and 2001 film, I had to rethink my decision to give the film a 9/10.
As I am currently lost in the midst of war not really knowing which way is forward or backwards. Each scene was carefully detailed, planned and executed leaving you leaning on the edge of your seating waiting to see what happened next, until unlike me you fell asleep.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Overstimulating, Confusing & Outrageous
I give this movie a 5/10 strictly due to the submersive theatrical performance of the actors, as I was completely lost in the movie. I didn't really know what was going on at some point. I barely grasped onto the storyline but i believe it was the first of it's type as the story line unfolded in a unique manner, that of which I have personally never seen on screen. I may be slightly overzealous with my review but I do believe they could have done a greater job with the production. Otherwise, the directing of the movie was first class as I believe that is what saved the movie. Some of the powers were ridiculous e.g. Polkadot man, kind of left me in limbo in combination with the costumes some of the characters wore as well as the star fish and the shark out of water which just left me in awe of the imaginative creativity of writer of the script. However, I did not feel fit into the dynamic of the suicide squad. A parasite would've made more sense maybe an alligator or crocodile rather than a shark but that's just me. Otherwise, beside the random scenes and the unexpected surprised the story line unravelled well in relation to the unique approach utilised to introduce the story line.
Deadpool (2016)
Storyline & Simplicity
I remember when this movie came out, I didn't really know who dead pool was. However, It was a great introduction to the character. I believe the director and producers made the most of everything they had, as I glued to the screen for every moment. My favourite part of the movie was the story line and humour, as I am sure many people can relate to the struggles of life and the toll they can have on us as we become adults. Deadpool's sense of humour reminds us that there is always a brighter side to whatever it is we are going through. It is an inspiring and uplifting movie, playing more than a role of entertainment. His sacrifice of love and pursuit of justice reminds us that there is always something to fight for.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
Am I mistaken to conclude the primal's were on earth the whole time.
A great story line that had great potential relating to the scenery and unfolding of the story. But by my own opinion, unfortunately unfolded in a disorienting manner which left me bamboozled. Hoping that the story line hasn't come to it's end and will be connected to the continuum of the pre-sequals of the Transformers. Initially my disappointed stemmed from the lack of ferocity displayed by Optimus Primal I. I expected far more from him after the invigorating performance of superiority and sacrifice, prior to him being butchered by Omnicron. Never the less, before we could even see his transformation which was a pleasant surprise to discover, once the story unfolded by his successor. I was however impressed with the team effort it took to defeat and quail the invasion with a key role being fulfilled by Noah towards the defeat of the planet eater, coupled with the humour and diversity of the cast, ultimately made for a good watch. On the other hand, seeing as Noah merged with Mirage was quite traumatising but exhilarating, as the notion was not entertain in the slightest with Bumble Bee and Sam Witwicky, which I do understand could only be made possible by Bumble Bee's destruction but considering it was the beginning, it would've been incredible to see more of.
Man of Steel (2013)
Henry Cavill
I can't imagine another superman. You do this to us every time.
I've just received information that Henry may or may not be our next Clark Kent. It's like super man 1978 all over again. You didn't leave us on a cliff hanger, you pretty much pushed us over the edge and left us lost at sea, drowning in agony wondering when the next rendition would be release. It's abusive and I just can't take it any more. Besides the facts, I think Henry Cavill did an impeccable job, i quite frank couldn't imagine another man of steel, but I guess just like Christopher Reeves, you will probably find another replacement, disgusting. Appallingly, diluting the tangibility of the brand. Imagine what Kal El would think of this abysmal twist of inconsistent depiction of his character. If he as anywhere out there, I am sure he trying to shoot laser beams at whoever is responsible for this. Otherwise, the fight scenes were epic, with a good balance of humour and suspense that kept me glued to the screen and awaiting the sequal, until i received the traumatic news of Henry's replacement.
F9 (2021)
I don't know how we got this far.
Since losing Paul, it has been a difficult journey to find the strength to watch the following episodes. But I have to say, I am astonished at the spectacular display for skills, wit and sheer tenacity to pull through, get back on that saddle and ride through the wilderness which is the movie industry as a family, following the loss of Paul. But never the less you do so with grace and spunk. I for one was not expecting it, I never experirit at all. I stumbled across the movie on netflix, press play and net thing i know the skyline was pulling up the family home. I look forward to seeing what's next. A solid 7.5, would be an appropriate rating if I could. Specifically due to the rigid story line, Jakob pretty much popped up like Houdini. He settled in well, but no one likes surprised. Including unrealistic expectations which have left me planning to zip wire across London and jumping off buses and trucks and motorways, i think it is a good bounce-back and invigoration of the story line following abu dhabi and brazil, i still need to give fast 8 a re-watch cause I found myself wondering, how did we get from street racing and robbing cars to being private military hit squad working for the federal government.
Osmosis Jones (2001)
Honestly....
We need more like this, especially for the children of this generation. Our ignorance of micro organisms and the impact they have on the bigger picture, is the cause of many problems we suffer today. Osmosis Jones has carried me through my difficult journey with hygiene and dietary. Besides the science of the movie, Bill Murray did an exceptional job as the lead role, he really embodied the character and grasped the attention of views such as myself not only into the lifestyle of the character but the animated aspect of it. He really put into perspective the struggles a single father has raising a child. Let alone a girl, without a feminine directive. I can't imagine it's getting any easier in this mansogonyst world. A round of applause to the women who play their role and support the man with the care, support and encouragement we require with a good balance nature of nurture.
Black Adam (2022)
Shazam, Deadpool & Black Adam
Firstly, no movie is going to be perfect. If it was, it would be boring. Imperfection is a key to the unravelling of the plot of the story. Secondly, I think we must learn to detach the character from the personality. If I compare Black Adam's monstrous monstrosityness, to Dwayne's lovely, sweet relatablness and how he managed to merge both together into one wholesome being. For that alone, he deserves 10/10. Thirdly, in comparison to other characters in his field, the likes of which are Shazam and Deadpool. I can only wonder to myself why Deadpool got an 8/10. If I am to provide a review based on the benchmark that Ryan Reynolds Deadpool set, then Black Adam has to get at least a 9.5. Otherwise, we certainly cannot place Black Adam in the same ranks as the likes of Shazam's Zachary Levi. If I am missing any other character in the same league, kindly remind me.
