Like Crazy (2011)
umm.. yeah.
I would have to agree with everyone else that gave this movie a bad rating. It just didn't really keep my attention. It was quite boring and the relationship between the two main character was kind of unbelievable.
I think the biggest mistake the director made was not allowing us to truly see the relationship between the main characters, Anna and Jacob. I thought this within the first ten minutes. Anna leaves a note on Jacob's car and you see him read it and smile but we as the audience don't actually get to read it. This was the first thing that annoyed me. In order for me to connect with an on screen romance, I have to feel as though I'm involved with it as well. And then later on their first date Anna and Jacob pass notes to each other with her notebook and again we don't get to see what they are saying. I felt as if the characters were keeping secrets from me and so it was hard to connect with them.
I kept watching, though. I thought, 'you know this could get better, maybe I'll like them as a couple...' Unfortunately, as the movie went on it still still felt very blah. It was hard to keep track of what Jacob and Anna were really doing. One minute they are apart and supposedly haven't been talking for a while and then all of the sudden Jacob is visiting her but they don't even seem very happy. The dialogue between them is really kept to a minimum so you really don't even know what they like about each other. Then all of the sudden they're broken up and dating other people.
I actually preferred Jacob with his assistant Sam. She was played by Jennifer Lawrence and despite it being such a small roll Lawrence did a wonderful job. I could see more why Jacob should be with Sam than Anna. That seems a bit off considering that Sam is supposed to be a side character. Sam and Jacob actually laugh together and have fun and it seems like they really have something special. There's a scene when Jacob breaks up with Sam and she cries and says that she loves him, and honestly I would have to say it's the best scene in the movie. It's the only scene with believable emotion and I actually felt for her character.
The end of the movie is not great either. They are both in their separate relationships, Anna gets a promotion, and then all of the sudden her lawyer says that her visa troubles are solved. It's assumed that they break off their different relationships because all of a sudden Anna is in the US with Jacob. They take a shower together and they just seem really sad.
All in all, this movie left me feeling sad and kind of like I missed something. I don't like feeling like I'm not allowed to know things about the characters in the movie. It felt like I was intruding on a very private relationship and I wasn't allowed to know any of the details. Watching movies is all about being involved with characters and unfortunately I did not feel that way.
So my final feelings towards the movie: meh.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
just okay.
Very typical cheesy Disney movie. The plot moves quickly which is good, but not much good about it otherwise. Oh, Nic Cage.. how you choose to be in such bad films.
The romance isn't very believable and built on like two conversations. The main actors have zero chemistry which doesn't help. I do like the main actress but just not in this movie. She was much better in I am Number Four.
Pretty much a typical Disney movie. It's not horrible, but not that great either. Probably really exciting for younger kids. The trailers made it look like it would be funny and enjoyable, but it just leaves me wanting more.
Waiting for Forever (2010)
ehh, not the best.
This is one of those movies you watch all the way through because you think it's going to get better. When the characters cry or feel any sort of emotion, you just wonder why because they are so underdeveloped and you are not able to empathize whatsoever. Rachel Bilson isn't great, neither is the main character actor. Also, the guy who plays her boyfriend Aaron is lacking skills as well. He play the character of Alaric on Vampire Diaries, and I actually like him there, but here naahhht so much.
The acting is sub par, the plot is lacking, and it kind of feels like a waste of what seemed to be a good idea in the beginning. Definitely not the worst movie I've seen, but definitely not that great either.
