Ever After (1998)
Perfect show for all ages
This is Cinderella with a twist. In this version, Cinderella is intelligent with a personality of her own. It is empowering for little girls and shows them how they can stand up for themselves are deserving of attention from even the most popular of men, ( a prince here) even if they come from a background of poverty. It shows that money or status does not define love. It teaches boys to stand up for truth and right and against societal standards that are harmful. It is not a prince saving her anymore than she is saving the prince in this one.
Maverick (1994)
One of my Top 10 Favorites
Amazing cast members with amazing chemistry. This show has you laughing nearly the whole time. Jodie Foster's character is a spitfire. For the 80s, this show was ahead of its time and is timeless as well. You can watch this in 2019 and feel like it was made yesterday. Absolutely great cast of characters and family friendly to boot. No worrying about a frivolous adult clip insert or language. One of the few shows you don't need to worry about with kids.
Destination Fear (2019)
Shows reality rather than fake guru magic.
I LOVE this show. If you're a skeptic like me, most shows have you rolling your eyes at their attempts to convince you that what appears to be a napkin blowing from a fan supplied by the show is truly a tiny ghost who said, "Hello. I want to kill you." Not for me. 2019 Destination Fear explores paranormal while making it relatable to the viewer. The fear here is real not acting, and the more youthful cast is very relatable to all people as they aren't afraid to let true emotion show. It seems the shows with middle-aged cast members are more interested in convincing you of the paranormal than allowing you to make up your own mind about what you believe. I'm middle-aged, but there is an energy that comes from watching the youthful cast over the shows with middle-aged people. I prefer Destination Fear. It's reality paranormal investigation without all the snake oil salesmen and with an energy you don't get in the other shows. This is the best one that has come along in this category and it just gets better.

Evan Almighty (2007)
Comedy With an Extra "Feel Good" Moral
My family went to this movie despite the critic rating because we liked Steve Carell. I expected that I would probably regret it and leave the theater thinking I should have listened to the critics. I was wrong. This was a great movie! My husband and I looked at each other and said, "Why do you think it got such a low rating from the critics"? And we both came up with the same answer, "Because it had a message that is almost always unpopular with the critics." We laughed often during this movie and enjoyed the same Steve Carell comedy that we look forward to, but at the same time, we left the theater not only laughing but thinking about life just a little bit more. I suppose the critics prefer to just be entertained. If I can get entertainment, along with a little thought provoking material then I figure I've won the jackpot. I can only imagine a pessimist or cynical person being disappointed in this film -- or maybe someone who does pick apart every aspect of a film. As for the general public, I think we tend to look beyond some of the small stuff in favor of the deeper meaning. Great job by Steve Carell. If you are familiar with Steve Odekerk and enjoyed some of his films, you'll be glad to know that he helped out with this one as well. You can take your kids to this show without fear of what you will need to explain afterward.
