Occhi dalle stelle (1978)
I never thought Italians in scuba gear and ski masks could be so scary..
Eyes Behind the Stars shows us why Italy is good for nothing more than breadsticks. I was slightly confused when the movie was drug along by dulling conversations between two, poorly dubbed, characters. They were then later killed by people in a black car, why you ask? I have NO idea! Im normally not an advocate of drug use, but if you are going to watch this movie, I suggest being very high, or on SOME kind of trip. Did they hire Atari to do the sound track for this film? Or maybe it was a 12 year old kid that had seizures behind his toy synthesizer? Oh and did anyone else notice Raffi's cameo in this film, as the doctor who intelligently states, "The man's dead." And the other doctor was out to start the early 70's mullet craze. One other thing, who is a script girl? (watch the credits)
The Mission (1986)
Mediocrity at best
I see from the other reviews that people had a lot of good things to say about this movie, and I'm not denying the cinematography or the score. The Mission was overall boring and incoherent. Whatever the movie was trying to say was muddled in all the lack of continuity or resolve. The movie brings up a conflict between two Jesuits, one who is for peace and one who is for war, when they are both under attack. The same fate behalls them both. This movie in not satisfying in the least. It is boring with a couple of good waterfall shots. I know it's not an action movie, but the action that is in the movie is goofy and the score doesn't help it at all, either. Sometime the score even comes to ridiculously dramatic crescendo for no apparent reason. The acting is all fine, but there truley is little. Again, the score is good, the cinematography is excellent, good acting, now you just need the movie to bring it all togethor. And the fight coordinator should be killed.
Willard (2003)
misunderstood dark comedy
I enjoyed Willard. It's excellently acted by Crispin Glover, and paints a haunting picture of a pathetic loner who finds friendship in rats that have infested his basement. That brief description of the plot sounds ridiculous for a movie, but you just can't take it too seriously, as the tone of the movie is never too serious. In other words, it's not a horror. I went to see it with some friends who just didn't get it. They thought it was just another horror movie, so they thought it was cheezy and funny. When Willard first befriends the rats, it would be a ridiculous scene in a horror movie, but it works well in this dark comedy. Some of the lines are funny, but I believe that was the directors intentions. Other times the movie is very clever. Willard's mom is also excellent.
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993)
Wonderful movie based loosely on the legend
This movie was amazing! It promises everything, drama, comedy and action and it delivers that and more. Jason Scott Lee is exceptional at portraying Bruce Lee, showing him as a loving father and also as the feared dragon of martial arts. The fight scenes are very well done and at times breath-taking. Dragon in it's entirety is very entertaining as it follows Bruce Lee from China to America where he won the heart of Linda Emery and overcame racism to rise to stardom. One of the best aspects of the film is the demon that is after Bruce. This adds a very mystical element to the whole film and shows Bruce as more than an actor but as an immortal man with incredible abilities. I have no doubt that a few things were stretched, being that Bruce Lee's real life widow Linda Lee Cadwell helped with the whole movie, including writing the book that inspired it all. It shows Bruce as very human while also showing us that he was an immortal action star. Dragon was very entertaining and a joy to watch.
