The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story (2023)
Good for a short film.
"The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story" (2024) was a take on what Miles Morales has to take on in his life, with that I am talking about pressure.
The animation in this short film is different than both Spider-verse movies, of course this is because the vast difference in budget. You can see this in the style that they move and pick up things, it feels more like stop-motion.
I was hoping for a release date for "Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse" but this sadly did not happen.
More about the short film itself is that of course the two people casted were the same as the movies, this made this part of the whole Spider-verse franchise.
I think it was lacking in some parts so it definitely doesn't rank the same as the movies do in my opinion.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
Finally a remake done well!
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" season 1 (2024) is a beautiful live action adaptation of the animated "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (2005). Of course only season one has been remade and it is gonna be a while for season 2 of 3.
The casting can be compared to the casting of "Stranger Things" (2016). An all young cast with upcoming actors who will be in the hands of Netflix for the foreseeable future. I myself have little to no comments on the cast, they are all doing an incredible job and i can't wait to see more of them on my screen.
It has always been hard to remake an already beloved show that barely has any flaws, they tried to do this with "The Last Airbender" (2010) but this was a big flop and did not do well. I am really glad they did not give up on doing this and tried again. They just did so much better this time around.
Everything looked really well done, the visual and practical effects were amazing and they really brought the world of Avatar: the last airbender alive.
One of my favorite things about this show was the music. Takeshi Furukawa did such an amazing job, using little bits and pieces from the original show it brought tears to my eyes sometimes. The goosebumps were constant for me while watching this.
I cannot wait for the seasons to come and look forward to it so much!
Good job Netflix!
Knives Out (2019)
You think you know what's happening and then you don't
"Knives Out" (2019) makes you feel like you've known what was happening the whole time, but still ends with so many twists that you definitely did not see coming as a viewer.
I really enjoyed the murder mystery aspect of the whole movie, I have always been a fan. For example Agatha Christie's "Hercule Poirot" being used in multiple stories and now even movies.
The cinematography and showing different point of views for everything that happened was very well done and made it memorable. As having worked on movies like "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" you see that Rian Johnson has made his craft and has his own form of directing, which in this movie was a piece of art.
The casting was so well done, one point I have is that I absolutely hate the accent Daniel Craig puts up for the whole movie. Ana de Armas character combined with Chris Evans's character just brought such a good dynamic. This really stood out to me and i was really impressed.
The whole movie I kept thinking that i knew what was happening, making it feel less entertaining. The second they started revealing the twists the whole movie just opened up and became so much better.
Fans of Murder Mysteries, this movie is a must watch.
Bambi (1942)
Beautiful loop of life an amazing animation for it's time
"Bambi" (1942) is really well drawn and animated even with having a deer in the office for reference. It is not the longest movie but still has capturing moments as deaths, births, and just growing up through the years.
The movie has some great music, beautifully composed with the rain and the snow fall.
A Disney animation movie showing you the circle of life. (not The lion King) you just follow Bambi from his birth through the years until he has children of his own. And thats the perfect ending.
But this does not come with ease, the movie drags you through some emotional rollercoasters that make you cry and smile.
If this is not a movie to show my kids one day, i don't know what is.
Deadpool 2 (2018)
Everything deadpool 1 was, but a bit less
"Deadpool 2" (2018) is almost as good as the first movie. It was also really funny and gory and I still really enjoyed watching it.
The biggest miss I saw in this movie was the visual effects, a lot of scenes were kind of mediocrely done but there was still parts that were good.
The casting was really good, adding characters like Domino, Cable, Yukio... and the actors they casted was perfect surrounding jokes and other things.
Not much else i can say besides that the movie ended with an open end to be continued in "Deadpool and Wolverine" (2024)
This movie is still really good in every other department and i stil very much recommend you watch it after watching the first one.
Deadpool (2016)
A great movie to crack you up
"Deadpool" (2016) is probably one of the funniest movies out there in my opinion. Dark humor, 4th wall breaks, and just one of the funniest characters in Marvel Comics.
This movie will not disappoint even if you're not the biggest superhero movie fan. Theres barely any superheroing going on in the movie anyway.
Ryan Reynolds was perfectly cast in this role, he is funny and he takes this role so seriously that he dresses like him when receiving awards for different projects. He is the real Deadpool if there would ever be one.
I have watched this movie plenty of times as a Marvel fan and i will definitely keep rewatching it from time to time.
The music is also a big part of the movie, perfectly chosen for every moment. For example "X gon' give it to ya" bye DMX, this is greatly chosen as it was a battle with the "X-men".
My favorite part is of course the humor, making meta jokes and jokes about the studios and plainly just breaking the fourth wall is immaculate. It just makes me smile and laugh every time i watch it.
It can be a bit gory so if thats not your cup of tea then maybe don't. But i recommend it to everyone else, yes everyone.
Big Hero 6 (2014)
A marvelous Disney animation movie
"Big hero 6" (2014) is an amazing movie overall, it has great characters, great animation, great plot lines...
If you want to watch a really good superhero genre movie and love animations, then this movie is for you!
The music is a great part of the movie, hearing "immortals" by Fall Out Boy play when they suit up for the first time just gives me chills.
All the characters are amazing, especially when you have a beloved character as Baymax, everyone loves him, our personal healthcare companion. Only thing I could say something about is Hiro's pubescent mood swings are kind of annoying sometimes.
The setting and beautiful animation is just perfect, combining the city of San Francisco and Tokyo is inspired.
I really enjoyed this movie, not to be biased about disney because I am a huge Disney fan. This movie is great even while thinking unbiased.
"Ba-la-la-la-la" - Baymax.
I.S.S. (2023)
Poorly executed space drama
"I. S. S." (2023) may have had some bad reviews in the past, but I found it not half bad, of course this came with some obvious flaws as well.
The visual effects were in my opinion okay in some parts and just plain bad in other parts, the way you keep seeing earth in the background is a beautiful touch but it was obvious that it was an American movie since it only seemed to show The US.
The casting an acting was not that bad actually, I find multiple of the actors chosen for these parts perfectly chosen, only complaint is that the dialogue sometimes lacked a lot.
Without spoiling anything about the end, it just left a lot up to the mind which can be good or bad, but thats for you to decide.
Napoleon (2023)
Would have been better as a show
"Napoleon" (2023) is a movie directed by legendary director Ridley Scott. ("alien", "gladiator", "blade runner") this story may historically be good but it does not show the extent of the life of Napoleon.
Left out key moments and unforgettable parts.
This movie by apple studios may have been better as a show in my opinion, raising the budget and showing more screen time for Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix and the character he plays. I think this would have brought more of the story together and would have meant more.
It was still enjoyable enough to watch because the settings and shots, casting and acting were still pretty good.
Do I think this movie deserves the ratings it is getting online? Yes I, really do.
So watch this movie or don't it is still fun if you like history.
Insidious: The Last Key (2018)
Unoriginal and just plain bad
"Insidious: The Last Key" (2018) is a movie filled with reused material from all the previous Insidious movies. The movie opens and ends the same as the third movie and it also felt so rushed, there was no way to find out what was actually going on.
Revolving about Elise, this movie takes them back to before everything happened, but tries to explain what happened in the other ones at the same time.
It is in my opinion obvious that the Insidious movies are going down in quality the more time goes on. The only thing I could say was not half bad were the jump scares, some of them were good but even in this movie some of them were really not good.
The acting was really mediocre and just felt forced and not believable. It may not be the cast that was, it probably was the script. They were also trying to be funny at times which fid not work for me.
Another thing that was really bad was the visual effects, it just felt so fake it wasn't even fun to watch anymore.
In conclusion: I was not a big fan of this movie.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
Enjoyable but weak
"The Hunger Games: Ballad of songbirds and snakes" (2023) not only the title is too long, the movie also was. I liked the character development in the beginning but as the movie went on I started to dislike every single one of them.
The only nice thing I can say about this movie is that it was nice learning about the past of the Hunger Games universe. Not that I was a good past in any way shape or form.
This movie on it's own though, if we don't look at the other Hunger Games movies, does not do good. The only reason why it is an okay movie is because of it's prequels and sequels. This movie as an independent movie was not good.
Casting was poorly done and so was the acting. Hearing Peter Dinklage's character try to speak with an American accent was horrible, it was so bad.
Other than that i can only say i enjoyed some scenery shots, it was aesthetically well done and beautiful at moments.
Once Upon a Studio (2023)
Pure perfection
When "Once upon a studio" (2023) came out on Disney animations' 100 year anniversary i think i watched it like 15 times. This is in my opinion the best Disney short there is because it has everything.
Nods to all movies, in the form of music and characters. This of course starting and ending with Steamboat Willie. Just hearing everything gave me goosebumps and happy tears.
The way they used and brought back the voice actors of every character even the voice actors that have passed away. Hearing their voices after so long just hits different.
As a big Disney fan it is fun to rewatch every time just to see what movies i can spot and name.
When they start singing "when you wish upon a star" with everyone together it just fills me with pure happiness and makes me realize Disney has a special place in my heart.
I strongly recommend everyone watch this!
Life of Pi (2012)
A masterpiece fused with tradegy and relief.
"Life of Pi" (2012) is a story about the "Life of Pi" which follows how he grew up and learned from his parents and brother, a beautiful family movie until distaster strikes. But this is just the beginning of an amazing journey.
This Story is told by Piscine "Pi" Patel himself, explaining everything that happened to this Canadian writer who wants to write his story and make it public.
I think this movie deserves every bit of recognition it gets from every award it got! It's an amazing and beautifully made piece of cinema. The way they use different aspect ratios in the movie is inspired, original, it keeps it fresh.
I haven't cried because of a movie in a while, but I honestly shed a couple tears watching this. If you want to see a movie that keeps you at the tip of your chair the whole time, i would recommend this movie highly!
Beware! May not be suited for vegetarians or vegans!
The Greatest Night in Pop (2024)
Perfect combination of everything.
"The greatest night in pop" (2024) was a wonderful documentary learning about the making of the amazing song "We are the world" (1985) by U. S. A. For Africa. All these legendary artists working together for one beautiful song just brings tears to your eyes.
Of course being based and inspired by "Band aid" by Bob Geldof also being a classic. "We are the world" and "band aid" are both songs i personally always listen on Christmas day, it has become a tradition and i always enjoy this time of the day every time.
But this is not me reviewing this amazing song, this is me reviewing this documentary.
Lionel Richie as a producer just brought so much life as one of the artists that brought everything together. Him and the other artists and producers just racing to the day of the recording brings a lot of suspense to this documentary which was very good.
Just hearing everything come together and hearing the song at the end gives so many goosebumps and it just is so beautiful and even this documentary just gives me more reason to love this masterpiece.
It's a really emotional watch and i recommend everyone watch this who is a fan of music or of any of these artists.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
A good reboot of a good character
"Percy Jackson and the olympians" season 1 (2024) is a remake of the books but also of the first two Percy jackson films that did not do particularly do well at the box office.
I very much like the way they portray the gods, not inhuman but also no human, it's a perfect balance. What i also really enjoyed was the monsters, this was very well done with a budget that is more than the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" (2010). The CGI and other visual effects were good in my opinion.
The casting choices were planned out well, i loved the casting choice for Percy, Walker Scobell did a great job as the second generation Percy jackson actor.
The end of the show also left us with a lot of information that will probably lead to a second season or even more than that. I am excited to watch these as well because i really enjoyed this first season.
Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)
Mediocre at best
"Insidious: chapter 3" (2015) starts different then the previous 2 in the franchise. The intro music with title card sound and look different probably symbolizing that the movie follows a different family this time around.
This movie follows how a couple of the characters got involved with one another and so started their journey with saving people.
A lot about the movie was mediocre at best, a lot of the scares, fights and just general moments didn't seem believable or just looked bad. Some of the acting differed from 'bad' to 'could be worse'.
Another thing that was also definitely lacking was the known for it's franchise 'insidious' soundtrack/music, it was different and not in a good way. This just did not hit the same as it did in the first two.
It was still enjoyable to watch but i will probably not rewatch it. Definitely the worst of the first 3 movies by far.
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
Good scary franchise
"Insidious: Chapter 2" (2013) is the second movie in the insidious franchise and is a very decent movie that follows the incredible first one. The movie starts real fast with a bit of a prequel to inform us about what happened in the first one.
Music is different than in the first one, instead of loud piano riffs it is more subtle but still eerie and creepy. The dialogue is kind of bad, because it seems so obvious to the viewer what is going on but the characters are so oblivious.
Got goosebumps a lot during the communicating with the dead part but also during a lot of other really creepy scenes.
Fight scenes were really bad and that is probably because the movie focusses on the horror part.
This movie shows that the further was always connected to more which is really interesting but at the same time complicated. I'm excited to see what happens next.
A Real Bug's Life (2024)
Funny view on learning about bugs
"A Real Bug's Life" (2024) is a docuseries about what the title implies, bugs. This series is a not too serious view on the lives of bugs in 5 episodes.
The reason why i say: "not too serious", is because of the silly music, and sound effects. For example zooming in on an ant trail and it sounding like a highway with cars or a spider webbing up it's sleeping space and it sounding like it is taping up something with scotch tape. This can be amusing in a childish kind of way, but it is not what I specifically am looking for in nature documentaries.
Casting Awkwafina as a narrator was good in my opinion, she has been getting a lot of big roles so this is a good change of pace. The only thing that bothers me is the way they went with the dialogue, this is definitely not my cup of tea.
The humor and music they use in this series is not particularly amusing to me, hearing rap or them making a joke about a spider dreaming about seeing a fly in all of it's eyes is not the thing i am looking for when i am wanting to learn about certain critters and creatures.
I really enjoyed the close-ups on every creature so we could really enjoy what they look like in high quality footage, this is done with the latest and newest technology of course.
I get that it is called after a beloved Pixar animations movie and that the goal is not to be too serious, but in my opinion this is what makes it less like something i want to watch.
Insidious (2010)
Exhilarating and incredibly creepy
"Insidious" (2010) is an amazing piece of horror that keeps you on your toes the whole movie. The music was well paired with all of the scenes, like the scary piano riffs that give of really creepy vibes and of course "tip toe through the tulips" by Tiny Tim.
All the depressing things happening with the children and the creepy sightings of the Lipstick-faced demon really sets the tone and it is very horrifying.
"The Further" realm as they call it in the movie is a really good way of showing how possession works in this particular universe and i really enjoyed the whole element they implemented with this.
The only complaint i have is at the end, the demon act was not the best. The fighting scenes and just the effect of the demon were kinda meh.
I really enjoyed this movie and with a budget of 800.000 dollars you can really tell they delivered. The movie does not drag on too much and so is a great example of a well produced movie.
Chronicle (2012)
Fresh view on the superhero genre
"Chronicle" (2012) was a great movie for superhero fans. This movie explores the reality of getting superpowers, it is not all sunshine and rainbow as seen in the movie.
The 3 main characters were good in my opinion, they were all different in their own ways which was good. Following more than one characters story livens it up a lot, this way you don't get bored at all.
For a 2012 movie the graphics/effects were decent and definitely not half bad.
I really enjoyed this movie because of it's different view on the genre, it's original in my opinion and i would definitely recommend it.
7/10 is a good rating because its average aiming to good even.
Ghostland (2018)
Confusing and kind of boring
"Incident in a ghostland" (2018) made me think a lot of "the texas chainsaw massacre" (1974). Both are played out in a countryside house and have a big brute that can't talk playing the role of the villain/monster.
At first i was not too sure about the acting and how the story was going, it was very confusing and weird. This got cleared up with a lot of twists which kind of saved the movie for me.
The end was also pretty predictable and that is definitely not a good thing.
In the end i enjoyed the movie but it was definitely not the best. I rate it 5/10 because it barely deserves to be above half.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Generally an okay movie
"Annabelle comes home" (2019) matched the scariness of the rest of the conjuring universe but is combined with stupid teenagers like most horror movies are these days. I really enjoyed the jumpscares and suspense, and i think the cast is pretty okay if even good. What the movie lacks is more story related, the movie is about Annabelle but she is barely in the movie. It could have been better if they used her more in my opinion.
I think it is weird how they gave Judy the same gift as Loraine has, this is obviously just a way to get more storybuilding instead of keeping true to the original story. As a third installment in the Annabelle trilogy i still enjoyed it.
But in general I think this movie barely deserves a 6/10 but it still does.
The Nun (2018)
Reaction after rewatch
After rewatching this horror movie i can only say that the movie is scary in a jumpscare way but the story really lacks. I like how they hint to other movies with little easter eggs so that the continuity is still intact which is probably the only good thing i can say about this movie. The cast was fine and enjoyable to watch.
I would recommend this movie for fans of "universe" movies, the conjuring universe is one of my favorites but it could have done without this movie.
So i give this movie an overall 5/10 because i enjoyed it but it still lacks a lot of bits and pieces.
I will be watching the nun 2 soon and leave my review on that one as well.
