Road House (2024)
Not a substitute for the original...
Jake G. Is the only bright spot here and he doesn't compare with Patrick Swayze's role in the original. The writing and/or the dialogue is lacking and Jake G. Really doesn't have support of the cast and crew. It gets a 3 entirely because of him. Connor McGregor's "acting" performance pulls down the rating, too. (Calling it "acting" is a REAL stretch!)
It's no wonder this went straight to Amazon Prime as I don't see this movie being a box office success if it went to the theaters.
Some of the fight scenes weren't bad. (Note, I said SOME.) But many were overly done. Especially the final one between Jake and McGregor.
The Contractor (2022)
Rated a bit low here
Rated as 5.8 here. It's not a blockbuster 10 for sure, but I thought it was better than a 5 or a 6, Sutherland just really walked through a couple of times and that was it. Chris Pine carried this movie. Had he not done that this movie wouldn't have made it.
The main character's discharge was not realistic as it doesn't happen that fast. If he was discharged honorably he still receives his pension and benefits since he didn't face a court martial . And a shoot out on the streets of Berlin?!?! That just wouldn't happen as the German police would be all over it.
No, Chris Pine carried this movie in spite of some unrealistic parts in the script.
Long Gone (1987)
A great sports movie!!!!
I would never considered William Peterson in a sports movie, but he does a great job here. One of my favorite baseball movies. Right up there with "Bull Durham". "Major League" may have an edge when it comes to the humor, but it is tough to give this one less than a 10.
Das finstere Tal (2014)
A risk for a weekend movie and I was surprised
I'm reading the synopsis for the movie and think, 'What do the European's know about a Western?'. I was very surprised and I can see why Austria submitted this movie to the 2015 Academy Awards for consideration of Best Foreign Language Film. It didn't get a nomination, but it was worthy of one. A genre similar to the later Westerns done by Clint Eastwood. Beautiful scenery - the Alps in winter. I highly recommend it.
The Turn Out (2018)
Much better than I expected...
No name actors and yet a very good look at the sex scene at truck stops. Warning: Tough to watch if you have kids.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
On the 25th anniversary of "independence Day"...
This would seem like a knock off of the above. Aliens vs. The human race. Chris Pratt is a good choice. Good, but not great. Michael B. Jordan would have been better but he was involved in that disaster of a flick, "Without Remorse". A younger Denzel Washington or Tom Cruise would have done better. But Pratt pulls it off it very well.
Were it not for the appearance of a rip-off of "independence Day" it might have been a 9. Still, overall a decent movie to watch over the holiday weekend as Chris Pratt makes it a very good movie night choice.
Company of Heroes (2013)
This could have been a good movie
I really wanted to like this movie, but I'd had enough half way through. In addition to too many technical goofs, the plot and script were just plain bad. It started out decent, but after about 30 minutes it just falls apart. Tom Sizemore just seems to be sleep walking through this one and that is the best of the acting outside of the main character.
Without Remorse (2021)
Someone called it a bait and switch...
...and that fits. This has the appearance of a really bad script from the 1980's that Steven Seagal would have laughed at. So apparently in order to sell it to the unsuspecting public, they went out found a well known author and one of his, if not his very best, book and use the name. The movie is so far removed from the original material they could have picked another author like Lee Child and said the main character was Jack Reacher. Just pick someone, anyone and use their name and one of their novels.
And to save money they probably didn't hire a SPECOPS technical consultant to avoid all the errors.
It's a shame Michael B. Jordan has his name associated with this garbage. He could be a good action actor, but instead he gets saddled with a sloppy script that a fifth grader wrote during his or her lunch hour and irresponsible, inept directing.
The current average rating is over 5 and that is the most amazing thing about this move.
