Dark Places, Deadly Illusions (2021)
Trash.
Let's see... no plot, bad script, terrible acting. Tbh K. Davis can't act. I think Charlotte was the only role I've ever seen her where she was decent. Still wonder how these people are still in business. Save time and watch sth else.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Yet another blond evil lesbian? Cliches at their best.
Easy watch. Nothing special tho. Script not so clever. Plot twists kinda predicted. And full of cliches. Can we please stop demonising female sexuality? Enough is enough.
Bridesmaids (2011)
I don't understand the hype around it. AT ALL.
All right I'm very puzzled as to why so many people liked this film. It isn't funny at all, the pace is so slow that I thought I was watching a compilation of deleted scenes on YouTube and the characters extremely uninteresting. And poop and vomit jokes? Are we still there people? Seriously?!
I've tried 3 times to watch the whole of this film but every time I found myself drifting away and struggling to go through with it.
Save time and watch Horrible bosses 2 instead.
Greenland (2020)
All the whys that were left unanswered. *SPOILERS*
So many plot holes and poor decisions I can't even handle it !
Why did they forget the insulin in the car in the first place? That's the first thing a parent would take. No wait! That's the first thing a SICK kid would take cause at this age the kid perfectly knows it's a matter of survival for him.
Next ... how were they chosen to enter the shelter in the first place if sick people weren't supposed to survive? Did the government not check the medical history of the chosen subjects?!! What was the criterion? Looks? Plus ... Greg dad gets chosen for being an engineer. But why was the rest of his family chosen? Sensitivity?? The government didn't want him to lose his family? And why does the survival of the family depend on the father's/male's profession? A bit too convenient for the patriarchal Hollywood model right?
Let's ignore this and move on, shall we? Mother and kid hitchhike and end up with a crazy fellow who kidnaps the kid. Wait, what?? Why keep a kid that you know has gotten rejected? Why not grab the bracelets of both and kick them out? Anyway.. mom gets kicked out and screams to the kid to get out of the car without helping him AT ALL! And seems pretty normal after it happened too!! Just sobbing in the street as if she was just robbed or sth.
Of course she finds the kid extremely fast!!! Not only the kid though... She also finds an angelic nurse who is calm and sweet and smiley as if it was just another day at Greg's anatomy hospital. And of course she has got meds and finds them a means of transport too! Are you kiddin me??
Next she meets her husband, they reunite and she just announces that she hasn't got a bracelet! He doesn't EVEN ask her why! I mean ... you'd think she would tell him their kid got kidnapped!! Or that he would ask where her ticket of survival is! But no... after all the kid doesn't look traumatised at all!
And let's talk about the Grandpa scene, please!! They've got 48 hours to escape and they have showers and pancakes! Not to mention that when grandpa chooses to stay behind and die, his daughter just casually accepts it and leaves. Come on!!! Don't you think she should be devastated? Cry? beg him? Shout at him? Force him into the car? No! This woman just gives us a punchline joke and pulls out of the driveway!!
Cutting through the end ... he blocks the way of a plane with his truck and ambushes the pilot to take them all as a family unit! As IF! And not only that but he lies about his weight?! LOL!
And can we please stop saving everyone in every single disaster film?
Dear Hollywood, why do we need a family safe and sound at the end? Why are you so scared Hollywood of a broken family? Of divorced parents who stay divorced? Why are you afraid of the reality of a family losing a kid in a pandemic? We assure you that even if the whole family was wiped out we, the audience, would survive! We're tough! We won't lose out faith in humanity or patriarchy! After all, isn't that what you're so scared of?
Just give us a break and a more realistic plotline next time please! Thank you.
Tiny Pretty Things (2020)
Bad acting, bad writing, bad directing. Cool dance scenes but are they enough?
This show is an easy watch but it does have serious flaws that make it awkward quite a few times.
Starting with the plus points I was happy to see a protagonist of color. Also, liked the fact that there is a gay relationship that tries to be realistic and not stereotypical as in most shows. The ballet scenes are awesome and the plot is a bit interesting (at least in the beginning).
However, the acting is horrible with June being the worst thing/actress I've ever seen in my life. I refuse to accept the argument that it's hard to find actors who can dance. They could find doubles. Wasting a whole show on these talentless human beings is a silly decision. As far as the characters are concerned, they are superficial, underdeveloped and their behaviour makes no sense at all. The soundtrack is irrelevant to the shows atmosphere and it totally fails to capture the spirit. Finally, who did they make this show for? The script is so naive that has to target 13-year-olds but there's so much explicit sex and violent scenes that completely threw me off. In any case, don't think there's an audience for it. I wish they had made a show based on Center Stage film (2000). That would have been awesome. But this show? Should get cancelled ASAP.
Mary Queen of Scots (2018)
God bless Netflix for saving my money!
I won't mention again the historical inaccuracies because they've already been explicitly mentioned in other reviews. The most horrible aspect of the movie for me was Margot Robbie. She was too "small" to fill Elizabeth's shoes. Not only that but watching the trailer I had the impression that the film would focus on the relationship and the dynamics between the two powerful women. I was wrong. The film was mostly about Mary. As a result Margot was a complete waste casting-wise. And also, the lack of interaction between them made the final scene where they supposedly met (which is also inaccurate) extremely weak. Found it really hard to care about either character. As a whole the plot seemed like a sloppy and hasty Wikipedia search badly executed. I'm just glad that I watched it on Netflix and didn't waste my money.
Ruben Brandt, a gyujto (2018)
This film is like a unicorn. Have a look at it, appreciate it, then let it go.
This is one of the most original films I've ever seen. If you're into the arts and want to feel inspired I definitely recommend it. The animation and style are unique, and each character is literally a piece of art. The idea behind the plot is extremely interesting as well. However I think that the execution of that idea has some downsides. One of them is the rhythm and the chaotic storyline which is too surreal to follow sometimes, similar to the general film style. I found myself lost at times, which isn't necessarily bad but it's a bit frustrating for a 90 minute long film. Also, it seems to me that this is an "Art for the art" piece of work. In other words, the film doesn't really bother itself with the rules of mainstream cinematography, as it exists simply because it has to, as an homage to all the great masterpieces featured. All in all, i probably wouldn't watch it again but I'm definitely happy I came across it because this film is like a unicorn. Have a look at it, appreciate it, then let it go.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Doesn't deserve to be part of "the Haunting" series.
I was so looking forward to this after the Haunting of Hill House and was terribly disappointed. I don't get the argument "don't compare it to Hill house, it's a whole different thing". If it is then it shouldn't be marketed as a similar product. And to be honest, I wouldn't mind that it's not a good horror series if it was at least good. The atmosphere failed to take me back to the 80s as I felt it was poorly made and paid no attention to detail. Regarding the plot, it was so terribly dull and slow to the point where I felt there isn't any at all. The characters were hard to care for and the actors' chemistry just didn't work for me. All the long monologues made me doze off and I had to actually rewind and force myself to pay attention to the characters' shallow personal dramas. Didn't care for the romance in the show either, not because I was holding onto the hope of some good "horror" scenes but simply because I couldn't empathise for any of the characters. Not even going to talk about the annoying kids with the bad acting and the horrible British accents (which was a low point for most actors in this season). All in all, I hope the writers will stop experimenting and go back to the good ol' haunting of hill house horror recipe.
