Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Pure trash
I wonder if people are objectively watching this or not. The ratings for this don't make any sense. It's a mediocre show with mediocre dialogue. There's some good moments in this but there's just not enough for it to be compelling and a second season but I've seen shows this awful get multiple seasons and it seems like Glover is Amazon's golden goose so to speak. I'm a fan of Glover (his music and acting) but this show just didn't hit the notes for me for being different and better than the Mr and Mrs Smith movie and 90s show. I don't see this as a remake but a reboot of both old properties with a new spin.
The Americans to me does a far better job of this sort of premise. That is what this show could have been but failed to be.
The Mail Lady (2023)
Absolutely dreadful
The plot is so awful and cheesy and I don't get how anyone still writes stuff like this. Why are movies like this made with a clear narrative that just shouldn't even be around these day? A Caucasian woman lusting after a poc male and becoming unhinged. Really? That's the most this sort of trope has evolved? As a poc myself, to see this is just awful storytelling where the writer and director have nothing new to offer the cinematic world in this genre of films. It could be compelling if the writing was better or if they even just sat down and asked themselves "Hey do we just make an awful version of what's out there or actually try?" They chose the former and missed out on the latter which would have been nice to see.
I'd give it a 0.5/10 if I could.
Atlanta: Sinterklaas Is Coming to Town (2022)
The show used to be great, then it started trying too hard...
The first two seasons were fantastic. But then after many awards and acclaim, it started to take itself too seriously and the narrative was changed. The first episode was intriguing enough for season 3 but then it just kept going down hill for me. You really stop caring about the characters and aren't as invested anymore. The political statements in each episode are also just not hitting the mark anymore. While I will say the first two seasons are some of the best on TV, the latest aren't and it's good that it's ending because I think they seriously ran out of ideas after season 2 and just lived on hype the rest of the way.
Werewolf by Night (2022)
Marvel fans love to inflate ratings for mediocrity
This was bland and boring. Marvel keeps trying to be serious and fail at it. I think they are so used to doing the same boring type of sarcastic stuff that they forgot how to actually bring any sort of serious tone to anything. This mini movie or whatever it is, was bland. It was trying to be compelling but it fails. The supposed horror tone to this is about as scary as a goosebumps book made for tweens. I was so bored after work and wanting something to watch. My wife is afraid of horror movies and shows and she sat through this and was wondering why it was made to be so cheesy. The saddest part is it had a great cast that was unfortunately wasted.
Narco-saints (2022)
This is brutal
It's nothing like the other Narcos shows. This one lives in fantasy land with awful acting and an even worse premise. It 100% feels like Netflix saw the popularity of Squid Game and figured the Korean market was ripe for the exploitation. Because otherwise this is a joke. Of all the drug trade stories that could be told, literally no one is talking about the Korean drug trade. Mexico? Yes. Japan would be a better story. Hell the US and the fact that drugs were pumped into poor neighbourhoods to ruin minorities, which actually happened, would be a better story.
Hell the Cocaine trade in Alberta is a better story than this trash.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
One of the worst Marvel movies...
Ever since James Gunn came crashing through with Guardians, Marvel has doubled down on the sarcastic slapstick style of Marvel movies with bad timed sarcastic jokes and tone deaf jokes at the expense of some great heartfelt scenes that were derailed by idiotic sarcasm and mockery of tragedy.
This movie is no different, well sort of. It's devoid of any actual depth. So many bad scenes, it's like some child with zero focus wrote this movie, it's really that bad. The movie is another vehicle to push forth the eventual team up that Marvel loves to do, but lately, they've been firing blanks with their movies.
Shang-Chi felt forced and had so many awful scenes, but because it's the first Asian lead super-hero movie out right now, it's hard for people to actually call it a bad movie, out of fear they'll be called racist. I'm a POC and I will tell you straight up, that movie is awful too.
So is Eternals, Dr Strange 2, and even Spider-Man's last outing is less about Spider-Man and again, about him being the big sad about Stark and later, another loved one. Marvel just can't help themselves with their movies lately, it's become very little about actual character development and more about the jokes and just churning these movies out. They started quite well, but near the end of the whole End Game saga, you could see that they were running out of good ideas. I can see why James Gunn is also leaving after the last GOTG movie, at least with DC he has options, Marvel really only wants the same cookie cutter crap to push the next Avengers style of movie.
I can't help but laugh at the Marvel's Suicide Squad type of team up that was just announced...Marvel, do better.
Sex/Life (2021)
Straight Trash
Netflix somehow renews this trash but cancels shows that are actually worth keeping on. This show was cringe worthy to the core. Zero redeeming quality as a show.
Tuca & Bertie (2019)
Flat out awful
Are people liking this because they feel they need to support a show like this? It's brutal to watch and the voice actors are grating to hear.
Ali Wong just doesn't do it for this character's voice acting and the show just feels like a mess. Yeah it's kind of a rip of Bojack and it's not the same type of show, because this one is awful.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Flanagan with his usual making his wife a main character...
His hit with Netflix was great but since then he's been making mediocre stuff and keeps making his wife the lead and while she's a great supporting actress in stuff, a lead she is not and it takes away from the show because of her lack of acting depth. Just kills it for me each time.
Free Guy (2021)
This was awful...
This was worse than a bad Netflix movie. Ryan Reynolds playing himself as usual with zero depth and just so cringe worthy in most if not all of this movie.
Dance of the Porcelain Demons (2019)
Epic Bore.
You can feel the pretentiousness from the director. Nothing new here and nothing that wasn't done infinitely better by better directors. Horror genre has a lot of fantastic directors you should check out. This ain't one of them.
