White Oleander (2002)
One of the worst reviews I've ever given
I was so looking forward to seeing this movie. I hadn't read the book so I thought I was "safe" to enjoy the movie (I hate going to a movie after I read the book) boy was I wrong. I actually wanted to leave half way through. I almost fell asleep three times and so did my friend. It was billed as a psychological thriller of sorts and was nothing like it. While I did think the acting was good, the script was trite, predictable and just plain annoying. I'd rather watch Michelle Pfeiffer in Grease 2 again than have to sit through that. The only saving grace was I went with a girlfriend and not with a guy -- cause then I would have to see movies that he wanted to see all month to make up for how horribly that was!
Sidewalks of New York (2001)
Great movie!
I rented this cause there was nothing else to rent and just finished watching it -- I LOVED it. I am buying it tomorrow. Not as good as No Looking Back (but this doesn't have Jon Bon Jovi crying in it, so it can't be as good as No Looking Back) but a great movie. Maybe it's because I feel like Heather Graham's character at this very moment, but I can't say anything bad about it. Highly recommend it!!!
Yesterday (1981)
AMAZING!
I love this movie. I discovered it many years ago and was lucky enough to find it on an on line auction. It is a "chick flick" and leaves me crying everytime. WHen she says "Matthew" with her French accent me and my friends just want to scream into the television. I recommend it to anyone -- if you can find it.
Serendipity (2001)
Ehh ...
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** This movie was ok. I think my problem with it was all my friends had told me what a great movie it was and I was expecting way to much from it. If I would have seen it on cable or video I would have thought it was great. On an strange note, my husband loved it -- and I usually have to drag him to romantic comedies. There wasn't anything wrong about it -- but there wasn't anything OH MY GOD fabulous about it either. The cast was good -- especially Pivons as the best friend -- but I did have a problem with *** SPOILER ***
Cusack about to marry his fiance and then leaving her at the altar. It was a little heartless. If you're still pining for an old fling -- or whatever she was -- you shouldn't get that close to marrying someone else. There should have at least been some explanation on screen to his fiance. (Pivon's charactor and his wife break up in this movie and I thought it would have been cute for Pivons and Cusack's fiance to get together. Unrealistic, but that was the whole premise of this movie)
Oh, well -- just my humble opinion but you're better off watching Notting Hill or The Cutting Edge again than spending $8 a ticket.
