Away from Her (2006)
Unrealistic
My issue with the movie is not related to performance at all. It's the way the facility is portrayed. I have worked in long term care for years, as have family and friends - from nursing staff to housekeepers. Never have any of us heard of a facility that wouldn't allow family and friends to visit for the first month. If anything the opposite is true, to encourage the resident to settle in their new environment, visiting is encouraged as much as possible, even overnight. If there are facilities with a different protocol, outside of covid, please enlighten me.
Good Witch (2015)
Too whitewashed
I started way thing because when I get home from work at 5 am I need something to help me fall asleep. Middle town has to be the whitest community in North America. In 2020 you won't find many communities without a hint of a diversity but Middleton lacks any whatsoever.
And the characters... Stephanie is so stereotypical, always looking for a man, in a rude, sexist way that makes my skin crawl. She's so unlikable and unnecessary. Abigail and the mayor are the most interesting characters but even their purpose is beyond me.
This show is great if you're looking to fall asleep.
Nancy Drew (2019)
I was thrilled...
Having read all of the books and watched the series growing up, I was thrilled at the idea of a reboot. But the only thing similar to the series I loved, as others have mentioned are the names.
I don't why they thought they could improve on the original by completely changing the personality of the main character and her friends. I understand updates, but shouldn't they improve the product. These characters are awful people who evoke no feelings or connection.
A Christmas to Remember (2016)
They lost me
I like Cameron Matheson usually, but they lost me when they had the girl trying to light a gas fireplace with a match.
When Calls the Heart (2014)
Perfectly awful!
The people on this show are too perfect to be believable in this time period in this setting Perfect teeth, perfectly highlighted hair, perfectly shaped eyebrows, pierced ears. The clothes are too clean, the language too good for a 1900's coal mining town. Also, it seems about as Canadian as stars and stripes.
One Day at a Time (2017)
liked it
I started watching this, expecting it to be tacky, but quite liked it. They dealt with some sensitive issues, things I could relate to, even though I am not Latina. Didn't really notice the laugh track others mentioned and certainly think it is better than Fuller House. This isn't a remake of the old show, its a new show with the same title. As for the reviewer who said the characters or actors don't seem to connect, I disagree. I think they did great for a first season with a new show...take a look back at some of your favourites, compare the first year to the last...even Friends in the beginning seemed like random characters pulled of paper and forced unto a set. I didn't love every episode, but it stroked my curiosity enough to keep watching and to hope for new episodes.
