Despicable Me (2010)
Cutie movie
Many people love Gru, Minions, or the girls. But, if you ask me, then I daresay, I can relate myself with Gru and my daughters with Margo sisters. Back in 2011, when I first watched this movie, I loved those kids so much. And still, I am.
But, I also liked the nerdy villain Vector, who commits crime with both direction and magnitude. Oh Yeah !!
Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1 (2021)
Masala with praiseworthy music
An one man show with a cliché storyline. Except Allu Arjun Garu, nobody's performance is not worth to remember. Srivalli is a very soothing song in all format. Samantha deserves accolades for her sizzling performance in the item number titled "O Antava". Sami Sami is a good choreographed song by Sunidhi.
Hope, part 2 will give more space to Fahadh Faasil, who is a fantastic actor in recent times.
K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)
SALAAM ROCKY BHAI
Not sure, since when I have been hearing such a soul touching BGM of any movie. Lots of rage, anger, and perseverance. Thanks to Ravi Basrur. Before that movie, I didn't know about Yash. After watching this movie, I surfed on google and found that, this guy has amazingly transformed to portray this MONSTER ROCKY BHAI.
Storyline is predicting, but I do appreciate the making of Prashanth who delivered a fantastic magnum opus.
Dookudu (2011)
A meaningless masala.
Despite getting a decent score, I couldn't find the way how it is so good movie to watch. I witnessed it but didn't get the logic of the overall storyline. Neither a comedy, nor an action.
K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022)
Its all about ROCKY BHAI..
KGF: Chapter 2 has a bigger canvas, mammoth budget, huge starcasts, and scintillating music than its predecessor, but, without ROCKY BHAI, the movie will not carry any meaning. This is a one man show. Rocking Star Yash nailed his portrayal perfectly.
The making of KGF franchise deserves hats off for its tantalizing making by Prashanth Neel. The way he presented Yash as Rocky Bhai was outstanding.
Who doesn't hum "Sulthanaa"/"Mehbooba" after watching? Music of Ravi Basrur is now a part of my life.
In a single sentence: "It's a MONSTER MOVIE."
Paap Punyo (2022)
Dissappointed
I am a fan of Chanchal and Giasuddin Salim. Their Monpura was a masterpiece. Fazlur R. Babu, Siam, Afsana Mimi were in the pivotal roles. I have had a huge expectations. But, I am disappointed to see the lackluster storyline, making and acting. Despite Chanchal's underutilization by the maker, none can even touch the fathom of the performance.
X-Ray: Selected Satyajit Shorts (2021)
Misleading title but fantastic making
A fan of Satyajit Ray and a Bangladeshi, I was hopeful for this series. But, the series is a misleading in the name of the prominent Indian film figure. Instead of saying it Ray, it could be said as the inspiration of the Ray's work.
To my concern, the first and the third ones were good. In "forget me not", Ali Fazal ,as a ruthless businessman, nailed the character perfectly. In "Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa", two talented actors Manoj and Gajraj were fascinatingly entertaining. But, Bahrupiya had an aimless plot, despite Kay Kay was fantastic. Spotlight was so boring and childish performance by the lead Harshvardhan, even a fantastic performer Radhika couldn't save it.
I appreciate the making.
Cold Case (2021)
Aimless plot
The thriller king of Malayalam movie industry Prithviraj Sukumaran comes back with his cop horror thriller Cold Case (2021). Initially promising, but it has lost its track as the time passed. Law enforcers and journalist are trying to investigate the mystery. ACP Sathyajit (Prithviraj) has the clue of an unidentified skull, derived from a waterbody, whose whereabout was unknown. Journalist Medha (Aditi) has a ghostly refrigerator which lead her to a ghost which seeks revenge. Both events meet with a deceased person Eva Maria (Athmeeya Rajan) who was brutally killed by a ruthless person.
The screenplay was poor.
Unoponchash Batash (2020)
Haphazardous film
The title of the movie attracted me and planned to watch in theatre. But, due to Covid19, theatres were closed. Yesterday, the film aired on Channel i. I am not sure what the maker actually wanted to say through his movie. There was no clearcut direction of the story. Camerawork was poor. The lead actors' performances were cliché. Seems, it was a waste of time. But, I have had a good expectation of this movie as the maker bagged numerous good TV natoks but as a debutant he was failed. Lead actors were also new in film, but they are now realized that, there is a huge differences between TV and Film.
Radhe (2021)
Deserves -10
Wish could give it -10 . But, not possible, right?
A worst remake of "The Outlaws" and a hilarious mimic of "Siti Maar". This "Bhai" of bollywood, who is one of the torchbearers of "Nepo" in Hindi movie, still doesn't know how to act and dance.
Love Scandals & Doctors (2021)
Demeaning doctors
Not sure, but the series demeaned doctors. If you watch this series from the closer look, you will start hating doctors.
And, the twists were quite predictable. Acting of the leads wasn't convincing at all. Cinematography wasn't up to the mark.
The Priest (2021)
Not up to the mark
A priest cum investigator or investigator cum priest? Confusing, huh?
Yes, the movie plot was like that. It was a blend of horror-mystery- drama and thriller but can't be fall under any of them primarily.
Mammotty starrer "The Priest (2021)" was a good anticipated movie for the Malayalam industry after the pandemic debacle. Star power might attract a lot of people into the theatre. The trailer and the ensemble casts made the audience expectation high. But, the storyline wasn't impressive as it supposed to be. It should be better.
Hello! (2017)
A meaningless series which waste your time
From cinematography to acting, I found no special elements that would remember it forever. Rather, irritating acting of the leads, especially the male character Anonyo and Lina, were too much painful. They both are renowned face but it was really hilarious to see their melodrama and immature dialogue delivery. Seems they dunno how to act.
Even 1 star is too much.
I never recommend anybody to watch.
Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya (2019)
MORNING DOESN'T ALWAYS SHOW THE DAY
This movie is a perfect example of "MORNING DOESN'T ALWAYS SHOW THE DAY" because the initial comedy of the movie turns to be a nail-biting crime thriller.
Sai Srinivasa Athreya (Naveen), who proclaimed to be a detective and followed Sherlock Holmes as idol, was a funny but intelligent person. He desperately seek an opportunity to prove his worth and strength as a detective. His assistant Sneha (Shruti Sharma) followed her boss despite knowing that he is not a well known detective. Due to the nosy nature of being a detective, Sai once found an unknown deadbody besides railroad track and eventually arrested by police as a suspect. Police kept him at the lock-up and planned to put charge against him. In the cell, Sai met an old man who requested him to find out the culprits of his dead daughter who brutally raped and killed her. Sai considered it as a chance of raising himself as a prominent detective in the country and start investigating immediately after getting bail from the court. However, the apparent murder case turns into an unexpected twists and turns and Sai and his team had to deal with a dangerous crime group.
Acting of Naveen was really amazing. He is a good actor. Glad to know that he wrote screenplay of this movie as well. Really a NAVEEN SHOW which was worth to watch. Shruti was a beautiful lady and performed very well. Direction and music were up to the mark.
Drishyam 2 (2021)
A worthy Family Drama Thriller
Drishyam 2 can be termed as a "Family Drama Thriller" where two people, from different poles, try to establish justice for their respective families AND Georgekutty (Mohonlal) and Geetha (Asha Sarath) exactly do this.
Sometimes, our own fear turned into a haunted figure which tries to capture us in every moment. This monster makes our life shaky and lack of confidence.
The film opened with a lovely chemistry of Georgekutty and his family. Despite his busyness with his new venture of opening a new movie theatre in the locality, he is caring to his family members. Also, he and his spouse Rani (Meena) strongly stand against their neighbor Sabu who bit his wife Saritha regularly. However, Meena was haunted by Varun's death and so did Anju (Ansiba). George knew that, one day, he will have to face police once again because Geetha won't leave them spare.
Due to COVID19, this much anticipated Malayalam Family Drama Thriller released through OTT platfrom Amazon Prime Video. To some extent, Drishyam 2 exceeds its predecessor in terms of leads' performance, cinematography and screenplay. Kudos goes to the director and writer Jeethu Joseph who satisfies the anticipation at a great extent.
Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher (2014)
No System is Safe
Cybercrime genre is a gray area in movie industry because most of them are operating in dark web. Understanding and executing a cybercrime film, thus, inherets specialised skills on hacking, dark web surfing, internet protocols and security.
With the tagline "No System is Safe (Kein System ist siche)", german cybercime thriller Who Am I depicts that, all systems can be broken by any super intelligent personnel. The man-made system is not sustainable at all, because those system has been made by human themselves. Human brain and intelligence can't be fixed in any particular boundary.
The central character Benjamin (Tom Schilling) is a young, introvert computer geek who has enormous skills in computer. He is quite expert in machine language and due to this expertise, he has been picked by a group of hackers. Benjamin discovers the dark but interesting kingdom of hackers named Fr13nd lead by an anonymous hacker MRX. He tries to find out the identity of MRX and strives to become an eminent hacker like him. Intel officer Hanne (Trine Dyrhom) is after this hacker group and gets a lead to find out through Benjamin.
This movie is quite a cat n mouse game between Benjamin and Hanne and it is interesting to watch who is actually win at the end. Storyline was quite predictable for thriller lovers but its interesting and enjoyable to watch such a thriller which enforces the audience to think ahead.
The screenplay, direction were well executed. BGM was very refreshing to hear. Team WHO AM I won 6 national awards in Germany including director Baran.
Welcome Home (2020)
Good slasher movie
Starting a bit of slow pace, but as the time passes by, the movie gets the momentum with lots of goosebumps and thrills.
Good screenplay and strong acting by the leads.
Unfriended: Dark Web (2018)
BEWARE OF DARK WEB!!!
Facebook, Google, Amazon, Uppsala University, University of Dhaka- these websites are called SURFACE WEB. According to Traversals, Surface Webs are only 5 percent among the World Wide Web layers. 95% have no traceability. This layer is divided into two: Deep Web (password-protected websites, e.g., digital library) and Dark Web (hidden websites). Anybody can't access to the DARK WEB, rather there are gateways to penetrate there. DARK WEBS are, the heaven of hackers. To my concern, hackers are the MOST GENIOUS PERSONS in the present times who could make the entire websystem dancing on their own tunes.
These film series are made on the basis of how HACKERS could turn anybody's life into hell. Everybody's life has dark secrets and darkweb specialists know about it. So, people shouldn't tease other's limitations, shortcomings and weak points. Bullying may lead to suicidal acts of innocent lives. But, those who do bullying or stealing others' stuff, may be getting punished by unknown figures (hackers) who are untraceable.
Both films portrayed group of friends who engage in a group chat and one by one, all group members became victims of the hackers. But, those victims had dark secrets which were hidden. But, hackers unearthen those facts before killing them
AK vs AK (2020)
Where Director Overlaps Actor
This movie is a real-time shootout (like a documentary film) where actors played roles by their real names. Anil Kapoor has been a proven actor in several decades of hindi movie. However, the acting of Anurag Kashyap has overlapped him in many cases. Its a cat and mouse game between these two (interestingly both initial is AK) which is hilarious but good to watch as well.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Carey's good revenge drama
The movie is a solo Carey Mulligan's show and the whole story revolved around her activities to gain a particular objective. Seemingly lonely woman, worried by her parents, who pretended to be drunken in different nightclubs to find out a particular person with whom she had a brutal experience.
Ludo (2020)
DICE AND COLORS STORY
Imagine your one of the known home game, Ludo, turns into a movie story where dice and each colour represent a specific story and interestingly, all these stories are meet at the end point of the game.
The movie starts with Yamraj (Anurag Basu) playing Ludo with Chitragupta (Rahul Bagga). From the narration of Yamraj, the Dice represents a notorious gangster Sattu Bhai (Pankaj Tripathi) who is ruthless in his area and couldn't forgive his once henchman Bittu (Abhishek Bachchan) who strives to
back to the normal life. Bittu lost his family life and missed them so much but couldn't come due to his criminal tag. Bittu represents the red side of the Ludo board.
In one of his murder incidents, Sattu Bhai have found Rahul (Rohit Suresh Sharaf) and picked at his microbus. The microbus was full of goon and Sattu Bhai played his favourite song "O Betaji, O Babuji". At his den, Rahul found lots of money and he tried to escape from the den with this money with the help of nurse Sheeja (Pearley Maaney). According to Yamraj, they form the blue side of the ludo board.
When Sattu Bhai arrived at his den, he saw Akash (Aditya Roy Kapoor) was waiting for him in order to seek his help from a leaked private video of him and Shruti (Sanya). Failed to get any help due to the blast created by Rahul which made Sattu Bhai severely injured, Akash escaped from that place and he met with Shruti. Akash and Shruti visited resorts, where they passed their private moments, to find out the location of the hidden cam. They form the yellow side of the Ludo board.
At the hospital, Sattu Bhai fell in love with nurse Lata (Shalini Vatsa). He observed that, one of the criminals tried to escape throughout the window. The escape plan has been made by Alu (Rajkummar Rao) and Pinky (Fatima Sana Sheikh). Alu, a die-hard lover, can do anything for his sweetheart
Pinky, even if she has a family. By any means, he helps Pinky to save her husband from conviction. Alu and Pinky form the green side of the Ludo board.
The four different but interlinked stories have been well executed and directed by the famous director Anurag Basu. In a humorous way, the life facts have been portrayed. The cinematography was well-paced and clear.
The music of Pritam and songs of Arijit were beyond words. But I liked the vintage song "O Betaji O Babuji" from 1951 movie Albela.
Taqdeer (2020)
Well Made Bangladeshi Thriller
A corpse bearer microbus driver named Taqdeer (Chanchal Chowdhury) found an unknown female corpse in his microbus freezer section, hid at the dark corner. At the same time, he received a ghost call in a male voice and instructed to reach in a particular area. Soon, it revealed that, the corpse was none other than famous journalist Afsana (Sanjida Preeti), who had been missing for a few days with her fellow colleague Rana (Manoj Kumar Pramanik). Taqdeer called his younger brotherly figure Montu (Shohel Mondol) to find out the way of escaping this mess.
It was quite expected to execute a good thriller web series from Hoichoi platform and Chanchal Chowdhury. Chanchal is a proven actor who is a torchbearer of method acting in Bangladesh (remember Aynabazi?). Storyline wasn't too much twists but the execution was perfect. Screenplay was well delivered. Music was soothing to listen.
One fault in this web series was that, the West Bengal artists dubbed all actors, which, to my concern, was unnecessary and doesn't suit in Bangladeshi context due to accent.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Should have been better
In the era of lockdown, social distance and restriction, I was eagerly waiting for the premier of this movie in the Star Cineplex of Bangladesh. Apart from the beautiful Gal Gadot, the performance from everybody was disappointed. Screenplay wasn't up to the mark, lack of action scenes made it happen. However,
the show was worth to watch only for Gal Gadot. I gave 7 only for her.
1 - Nenokkadine (2014)
The Best Telegu Suspense Thriller
The storyline, twists, directing and the acting of Mahesh Babu made this movie the best Telegu suspense thriller till date.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
PERFECTLY SPLENDID
Web Series: The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Platform: Netflix
Language: English
Genre: Gothic Horror
Season and Episode: 1/9
Based on: The work of Henry James
Predecessor: The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Cast: Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson Cohen, Amelia Eve, Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, T'Nia Millar, Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan, Rahul Kohli, Tahirah Sharif
Creator and Director: Mike Flanagan
IMDB: 7.4/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 87%
Personal: 9.0/10
It's you, it's me, it's us!! This is the line to invite ghost into you and if you utter this line, the ghost will takeover you.
Its the second "haunting" anthological creation by Mike Flanagan and the ensemble casts were quite common in his previous venture, the Haunting of Hill House. Its not a direct sequel though, but Mike has made another family sentimental saga where ghosts were portrayed both positive and negative aspects.
PERFECTLY SPLENDID!!!!!! (Flora)
The story narrated by a female guest (Carla Gugino) at a wedding ceremony who accepted a request by the bride to tell a ghost story. Her story began with a girl named Dani (Victoria Pedretti) who looked for an employment opportunity. She met with a multimillionaire Mr. Wingrave (Henry Thomas) who gave a job circular for appointing an au pair for his nephew Miles ( Benjamin Evan) and niece Flora (Amelie Bea Smith), both were orphan, who live in Bly Manor with their governess Hannah (T'Nia Miller), Chauffeur cum cook Owen (Rahul Kohli) and a gardener Jamie (Amelia Eve). She accepted the job offer in order to take a new challenge and a new area for living. She received warm welcome from everybody at Bly Manor. Dani, a mixed up of both soft and tough role as an au pair, felt a tough by the kids however embraced by adults. Dani saw a mysterious dolls house, quite resemble to Bly Manor, at Flora's room where every doll represented a character living in the house. However, Dani found a lot of dolls which had no clue about who they were. However, the apparent simple manor turned a place of scared incidents to Dani when she met her predecessor Rebecca (Tahirah) and former Chauffeur Peter (Oliver Jackson Cohen) who died on the hand of the lady of the lake (Kate Siegel). Dani found that the life of both kids were in danger and she strived to save their lives from ghosts.
The feelings that Dani showed to the kids were like a motherly figure to them, eternal love to Jamie made the character a most lovable TV character in recent times and credit goes to Victoria for her perfectly splendid portrayal.
Apart from Victoria, everybody played their role PERFECTLY SPLENDID ( I love the dialogue frequently uttered by Flora who first learnt this phrase from Rebecca). Even a very small screen presence, Kate was superb.
The direction by Mike Flanagan was superb and he made his legacy of PERFECTLY SPLENDID directorial contribution like the Haunting of Hill House.
