The Grudge 2 (2006)
The Grudge 2- Plain BAD
People may say I am harsh but I can't help it. The movie is so bad I was absolutely stunned. The first movie was bad enough if you ask me. It was greatly exaggerated and silly but this one, despite the creepy scenes, has a seriously ass-stupid story. They actually went deep into investigating Kayako's past and found out that she had a mother (Who miraculously speaks English) who was an exorcist and "fed" evil spirits to her daughter. Stupid? Yeap. OK, it started out with Kayako who was an ordinary housewife who had an affair with some bloke and got herself dead. This part is still OK. Because of this moment of rage, she became a vengeful spirit who kills anyone who enters her house. Acceotable. Now, her killings began to stretch a little where she actually had the opportunity to travel throughout Tokyo just to finish her victims. (Her victims were travelling, weren't they?) This struck me hard. Now if a ghost could actually do such a thing like travelling throughout a country without paying public transport fares, I wouldn't mind being. Ask someone to come kill me then *snorts*. And to crown things all up, the ghost who was once depicted as a very vengeful one (In Ju-on: The Grudge, which was way better than this trash) is now depicted as some spectre who truly enjoys herself and felt that it is her mission to finish of people. Things became worse (For me, the viewer) when the ghost became coming in forms of large strands of hair. I mean, ??? If a ghost had such power, I seriously dun mind being one. I never really liked movies depicting ghosts as MONSTERS cause they're not. The overall results is just plain bad. Like The Grudge 2. With a better storyline and less exaggeration, this show would have been better
Ryeong (2004)
Choyos-flaz's review for Sk horror film, The Ghost: Ringu is Ryeong
Weird title for a comment This show, is a total Korean version of ringu. the story is different though. Well, the sequence is more or less the same. The show begins with a girl dying, EXACTLY like ringu. And not only that, the girl died the same way as the girl in ringu. she turned around, opened her mouth and AHHHHHHH!!! This story, however, has a change from Ringu, as stated before. It talks about a girl with amnesia who keeps getting spooked by a ghost. Plus, her friends are also getting killed by an unknown killer, the ghost obviously. So, like Ringu, she drags in a guy and both of them started investigating the mystery of this ghost. (Who, by the way, has really long black hair covering her face, revealing one eye. The eye is totally FAKE) It's a rush of time for the poor girl, before the ghost KILLS HER! Like Ringu, the main character also rushes against time to save herself before 7 days. Last similarity-The ghost died in, yup, you guessed it, WATER. She more or lessed drowned too. And the ending, my god, it's an obvious copyccat. They got the body out of the water, like in Ringu, where they removed Sadako's body from the well. A burial was then held. AND THEN, they thought it was a happy ending, like ringu. But NO, the ghost came back, in a very significant way .Remember Sadako coming out of the TV? This time, instead of TV, the ghost came out of a puddle of water "-_- Well, the only cool part was the totally unexpected ending. But the way the actors expressed their shocked made it looked lame. this film, is LOADED with jump-scare tactics. not effective, seriously. Irritating. And heart-pounding Worth a rent, I guess, if you are a fan of Korean Horror. You won't exactly be disappointed but you'll find the lack of originality slightly irritating.
Bunhongsin (2005)
Chilling horror elements but story is pretty unoriginal
The Red Shoes (Which are pink, by the way) is an example of how exaggerating horror films can reach nowadays WARNING: SPOILERS Now, the story started off with a woman called Sun-jae, who caught her hubby having sex with another woman aka an affair. so she grabbed her daughter and they moved out of the house to stay in an apartment. There, she started with the renovation of her eye clinic BLAHBLAHBLAH...not very important. by the way, she fell in love with the architect. Now, the horror starts when she stumbled upon a pair of pretty cool looking high heel shoes. And much to her dismay, everyone (Ok, more like only women) who sees the shoes will be obsessed with it First, it was her daughter. Ahhh...then her friend Mi-hee. Mi-Hee stole the shoes and died in one of the most gruesome ways ever-TERRIFIC! So, my point of views of this film: Has couple of nice chilling moments like the part where she sees this long hair woman in the elevator. VEry cool! Some twists here and there though some of the twists were lame. Like the fact that only whoever who STEALS the shoes will be killed Which means that if you steal the shoes from a particular person, you will die and not that particular person. The ending twist about Sun-Jae having split personality is cool but weird too. Overall, this is an excellent an elegant horror film with loads of chilling scenes but lack an original story. I would recommend this to you
