Hitman (1998)
9/10
Hilarious and good action.

This movie is worth more for its comedy than its fighting. Eric Tsang is a riot to watch with Jet Li...they have fantastic chemistry...esp. the scene where Jet Li decides to move in with him and Tsang pretends that he wants him to. lol. As for the fighting elements: Jet Li pulls a few moves throughout the movie, but nothing spectacular...then at the end, he tears it up!! The movie has several hilariously memorable characters like the head of the trust board who insists "Yes, I'm afraid of you, but I'm more afraid of starving"...I honestly felt that Simon Yam's character was a bit extraneous, he certainly doesn't have the skills that Jet Li has and he's very unimpressive without a gun in his hands. The scene with Eric Tsang fighting the Japanese woman is too funny. Esp. when he says "I'll take on the toughest one - the girl in the kimono". The final fight scene is great enough to buy the movie and the very end has a nice feel-good sentiment. No stupid romances to clog up the movie.

Titus (1999)
10/10
Lovely and Eerie.

Julie Taymor sure doesn't shy away from creepy imagery. While the Shakespeare play, Titus Andronicus is already quite fascinating with one of the most hilarious scenes written in at the end - Taymor makes this film an experience you will NOT forget. If you don't like clear haunting imagery, keep your eyes squinted so you can close them when you need to! Jessica Lange is BRILLIANT...my god is this woman brilliant. Anthony Hopkins has only been better than this in the original Silence of the Lambs. He's a riot. And Alan Cumming is...well, if you know who Alan Cumming is...you know exactly what I'm talking about. The director and art design really deserve the big cake on this one...the movie is beautiful. The violence is artistic...and the acting...well, you don't even have to like Shakespeare to get it.

Cousin Bette (1998)
9/10
Intrigue and Payback.

This movie is fun in that it has Jessica Lange (undoubtedly one of the best actresses ever to live)playing a spinstress whose life is fairly empty until she rescues a poor ugly man who is a bit younger than she. In her world, people turn on her without a second thought...it's quite the morality tale...she merely leads them by their own will to their doom. Sweetly.

Wing Chun (1994)

Nonpareil.

Yuen Woo Ping, the choreographer for The Matrix, brilliantly directs this piece starring martial arts delight Michelle Yeoh. The story is classically clever with Yeoh in the role of butched-up Yim Wing Chun, the woman who was famous for the Wing Chun style of Kung Fu, taught by her Buddhist Nun, Ng Mui. The movie is very sensitive to feminist issues and is a very smart commentary on the like. The action scenes are sweeeet! Michelle Yeoh is very fast and very sharp in her movements against the big hoodlum who keeps insisting she's getting a whiff of his "Chi". Great movie! Great fighting!

This movie is so charming!

Like most of Jet Li's movies, this one is bereft of sexism. Everyone tears it up equally in this flick...and with some of the most awesome fight scenes. More interesting is Jet Li's newly acquired Tai ji form in the movie...this man is SO talented! You get to see the sharpness and speed of his movements...and the topknot is so very cute. Michelle Yeoh kicks mean butt in this one, too...she has such a lovely grace when she fights, as does Jet Li. This and Supercop are some of her best work. Definitely check it out!

Fabulous!

Not as good as Fong Sai Yuk, the first, but definitely has great fighting scenes worth watching. This is some of the best HK cinema there is...best worldwide, even. The scenes will get you revved...and Jet Li is the best. More story here than in most HK movies!

The Legend (1993)
10/10
One of the greatest movies of all time.

This movie has a great sense of humour, on top of being one of the most well-choreographed fight films of all time. God bless Cory Yuen!!! This movie has a WONDERFUL plot...it's fun to go along with these characters...and Jet Li shows his charming sense of humour, too. If you like weird villains, this is perfect too...he even dresses real purty. All of the characters are very memorable and like I said, the fighting is just so amazing...Sibelle Hu is very fun as she kicks butt while tumbling over people.
