Dancer in the Dark (2000)
Left my heart feeling throngs of emotions after the movie..
This is the third Lars von Trier movie I've watched, and like the other 2 movies (Manderlay and Dogville), it left me with emotions that quietly surged in my heart. I found it slow moving at first, though as the film goes on, I didn't really want it to end. There were scenes whereby Director Lars von Trier had cleverly inserted in musical instances so as to break up the melancholy nature of that scene, as well as to add depth to the emotions which Selma is feeling. I've noticed that the musical sequences occur at instances whereby Selma feels uncomfortable or saddened or traumatised... it's when things are not comfortable that the musical sequences are added in.. it's like Selma actually runs into the world of the musical when dreaded things happen. Bjork is brilliant as an actress. She totally amazed me with her acting, her expressions, her ability to totally be in the character such that you would not know that it's some other person. Her songs are so haunting it just served to add an added element onto the film. I love the film, but as another reviewer mentioned, it's not a film i'll want to watch again anytime soon. Not until my emotions subside... which i suspect will take some time.
Seven Dials Mystery (1981)
I enjoyed it
Personally, I rather enjoyed the whole film put together. The beginning was relatively confusing to people who are not familiar with the British style of doing things, as well as the numerous characters which popped up without proper introductions... There were also several misleading moments whereby the character's portrayal of themselves caused you to wonder if this character is important to the whole plot, yet the character disappears after a while. I rather liked Bundle Brent... She added much mischief and fun to the mystery, which seemed distinctive of an Agatha Christie mystery - the element of witty characters added into the story. The ending is really surprising though. All in all a good mystery, though i do agree that the film is not very well directed.
