I've read post after post of how incredible this movie is.
A buddy of mine said it was the greatest zombie movie OF ALL TIME. He absolutely loved it and assured me that I would too.
We went and saw it... and I must admit that my expectations created by IMDb users and my friend were not met.
*Minor spoilers ahead* This movie was cool - Don't get me wrong. But, it was missing something that the original had: Characters. In this film it seemed like 90% of the characters were introduced just to be killed in some shocking way. Speaking of that, I also felt that half of the deaths were uncomfortably violent and really didn't add to the movie.
Back to the characters. We never really got to know anyone. Any time we thought there would be a character, they would be dispatched like a meaningless crew member in Star Trek. Most zombie movies have at least one character that the audience can relate to. I didn't really know or like any of these characters.
Days had compelling characters and a great and refreshingly different story. Weeks has none of that to be honest. What it does have is extreme gore; incredibly annoying, predictable, and often cheap scares; and a spectacular scene with a helicopter and a group of infected.
I don't know if I even care about a third installment. Weeks didn't exactly expand the story. It just felt... like a sequel... an ordinary sequel.
I'll go ahead and give it a 7/10. Good, but definitely not the award winner it was made out to be.
