Howard's Mill (2021)
Definitely NOT a Documentary
I found this on Tubi and thought it might be an unsolved mystery-type documentary, but it's definitely a found-footage style movie in the same vein of Blair Witch or any of the similar ones after it. I mean, it's decent, but you can definitely tell that some of these folks are acting. I love disappearance movies, documentary or not, so I enjoyed it.
Away (2020)
This was exactly what I was expecting.
This was exactly what I was expecting. I just finished watching this today. It was pretty good. Since it's the first season of what I am expecting to be a multi season show, there's a lot of character development in each episode. The acting and cinematography are phenomenal, but parts of the storyline are very cliché for a space themed TV show.
I'm not exactly sure what some people were expecting from the reviews that I'm reading on here. I mean, the synopsis says that the commander and the crew are dealing with conflicts and family emergencies throughout the show. So it shouldn't be a surprise that those are a part of the episodes. I believe it's also explained in the first episode that it's a three year trip to Mars and back. So why would we see any footage on Mars in the first few episodes? And lastly, if you don't know enough about screen writing and plot development to know that establishing a character means learning about their past, then you probably shouldn't be writing reviews about shows and movies. Having flashbacks and memories of the crew establishes their motives for their actions and also allows them growth from some of their less than desirable characteristics.
I'll definitely watch the second season of this. In fact, I'm looking forward to it. And now that the crew has made it to Mars, I am excited for those experiences.
