Chuck: Chuck Versus the Hack Off (2011)
I was gonna be ticked....
Then Decker got blown up by Gertrude and all was well with the world. The 5th season's been pretty hit or miss, but this episode was a hit for sure. I like the direction that Chuck is headed with his computer skills. Not a big fan of always dealing with secret cabal's and organizations as that does seem to be the only trick that the show has had.
Stargate SG-1: Family (1998)
A decent episode, astronomically hurt by a bad ending.
The beginning plot was a decent start to this episode. A simple rescue mission to save Rya'c, Teal'c's son, from Apophis. To me the most interesting item was that Rya'c has been brainwashed by Apophis, which resulted in him running from the SG-1 good guys to Apophis' guards for protection. This feeling of betrayal that Rya'c had was later continued as a simple plot set up by Apophis to release a deadly bioweapon into earth through Rya'c. Rather than facing the brainwashing head on and exploring how that changes Teal'c, the writers come up with the horrendous solution of ECT to 'cure' Rya'c of brainwashing. ECT does not work like that. Not even sort of. The episode missed its chance of creating a provocative change in Teal'c to instead just have a sappy happy ending.
The side thing with Teal'c's wife is kinda meh, though it could also help change Teal'c as a character.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Duet (1993)
My start into Trekdom.
This episode happened to be on while one of my parents was working around the house. I had never really gotten into trek. Only watched an episode here or there when my parents had turned it on, but I hadn't seen anything that made me really want to watch Star Trek. This 45 minutes of television changed that.
First, the writing and script for the episode were excellent. What an incredible story that was extremely well put together. It had twists and turns that I truly didn't expect and the final reveal was perfectly placed. The acting by Visitor and particularly Harris Yulin was amazing. Yulin gave an oscar-worthy performance here and made you truly understand what it would be like to be in his shoes.
Seeing this episode made me understand what True Star Trek was about and how the thoughts and feelings that come from these incredible episodes can help us set our vision higher and reach for the stars.
