The Flash (2023)
What a movie!
Sure, this is a movie for the 40 year olds. It relies heavily on nostalgia but it has it all, humor, action, one liners, throw backs...
The CGI could have been a bit better, sure... but sitting there watching the OG Bat as well as numerous other cameos, (I won't spoil but you won't be dissapointed), was just freaking awesome.
The story is good and not too complicated but just enough so you don't imediatly know what's going to hapoen but easy enough to follow if you grasp the concept of the multiverse.
I cannot believe that this won't be the path for the future movies...
I gotta say go see it and see it now. No time to loose.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Are people blind???
Wtf, 10s from people? This was the worst one yet and Chapter three sucked ass!
Over, over the top. People dancing while others are killed around them, cars keep driving on like a damn marry go round even though people are killed like flies. He survives being hit by a car at full speed not once but 5! Times in 5 minutes. Oh, and falls from a building (again) and totals the car but just walks off.
And then they try to be funny with the dog biting nuts, him rolling down the stairs like it's an episode of Family guy.
And to top it all off, the blind guy shoots better than John f'n Wick.
Give me a f'n break.
The only reason for not giving it a 1* is cus I like Keanu.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Days of Our Lives in Space
This started as a great Star Trek show. New characters, interesting plot etc. Really LOVED it for the first and maybe second season.
Then it hit a wall. Terrible plot, cheesy character development and awfull acting. Tje lead has ONE face expression, tormented, hurt, questioning face. Whatever she says is said in the same, one-dimensional, half whispering tone.
The only development the other characters have is their sexual/gender orientation.
The overall season plot could be shown in 2-3 episodes, not 13.
I've gone from loving her and the show to fast forwaring 50-60% of every episode.
This is not Star Trek, this is Days of our hipster-all-inclusive Lives in space.
Watch the first 2 seasons and just stop and start watching Picard and Orwille.
Black Widow (2021)
Could have been a FF movie...
This was no Marvel movie. After such a long wait we get a FF type movie. It started off well, the intro was good and then it just turned into an orgy of superhero fighting but with no superheroes! You gotta do better...
The Red Guardian was OK, had some laughs at least.
Wrath of Man (2021)
could have been great
Guy Richie. Jason Statham. Other OK actors. A recipe for sucess. Also great music...
But The plot holes... Why?
Several things started but not resolved. What's with his gang? What's with the feds? How can he be anonymous at ALL?
It really feels like there was a lot left on the cutting room floor. I'll wait for the director's cut to rate it higher...
Tenet (2020)
A paradox of a paradox...
I guess this movie could have been great. Potentially good actors, great director and an interesting premise of a story...
And then we get to the reveal (like a 100 minutes into the movie). The future people want to kill the past people so that the past people don't destroy the climate and thus the future world. Ie, they believe that affecting the past WILL affect their future (see grandfather paradox). At the same time, they expect that erasing past humanity will still NOT affect their own existance...
Which is it future people, do you belive in the grandfather paradox or not? You either stop the climate change AND erase yourselves from existance or you don't stop the climate change and get wiped out in the future. It's a lose/lose, just like the time and money spent on this film...
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
A cartoon
Granted, the action is great and gruesome. The story is non existant but you don't really expect much. What irritates me is really the cartoonish level of John's survival. It's about as believable as Batman surviving more that 1.6 seconds against Superman... if you're gonna make someone awesome at fighting then stop with the Rocky comebacks...
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Who let The Rock write dialogue???
I love The Rock. He's funny, charming, cool... He's this generation's Arnold+Sly all in one. At least when a professional writes the movies he's in... Who the hell let him write "jokes"? He has never heard "less is more" apparently. I was expecting a HUGE movie, action and silly one-liners, just like the FF movies. I did not expect an ode to Dwayne's heritage. He's finally such a big star that he can write stuff in the movies and he went with it... Waaaaaay too far... He and his "usos". Did anyone miss the word after being used 22 times within 15 minutes??
Oh, and the continuty errors, maaaaaaaan. Last fight as the timer went down 30 minutes went from just before dawn throughtout a WHOLE day and ended at dusk. Sometimes bad stuff like that becomes funny and then sometimes it just goes way to far and is just cringeworthy.
The ONLY redeming thing with this movie is Ryan Reynold. The man is a genious...
Please do not waste your money and furthermore, do not encourage a sequel...
Men in Black: International (2019)
Over the top but no story
So I'm not a huuuge fan of the MiB franchise. Loved the first but then every time they made a new one it got worse. I should have stopped watching this one when I saw the Tencent logo. They masacred The Great Wall and The Meg (which had potential to be a cool, if not a very serious, movie). I'm sure Chris got a bucket of money for this but he should have read the script, or lack there of. Over the top CGI, very boring aliens, flat jokes and no story whatsoever. And whats with the Matrix villains ripoff (the rasta twins).
Just awful.
Venom (2018)
Awfull
What is wrong with everyone? 10s, really???
Tom Hardy, a usually good actor, just plain awful. The story, full of plot holes. Venom who, if done the way Deadpool was done, could have been an awsome antihero is boiled down to 2 funny jokes and some CGI. Oh, also Riot must be the most dense villain in the history of villains since he takes on bodies of old women and little girls and it takes him 6 months to reach an airport... Or, just plain stupid screenwriting. Probably both.
Ninja (2009)
2009 action in an 80's movie
Wow... I saw this movie two weeks ago on a sneak preview in Kuala Lumpur. I had no idea what to expect but being a 30-year old guy who grew up on Sho Koshugi and Michael Dudikoff ninja movies I just had to see it.
As to the script it's a plain 80's rip of. An American ninja fighting a envious Japanese ninja including a secret criminal organisation "The Ring" (How's that for a cliché?) makes this movie a typical no brain action movie. Couple it with the east Europe crew and locations and an almost voice over synchronization and you got your selves a good laugh.
In some of the action scenes (that were quite well made most of the time) a street punk almost kills the ninjas where as in others ninjas do a one-blow kill. Kind of inconsistent, don't you think?
All in all I give it a 5/10 just because it took me back to late 80's, early 90's and made me feel like a kid again. I'd actually watch it again for the same reasons I sometime watch "American Ninja", i.e. so I don't forget the lines like:
Soldier-Sir, have you ever heard of ninjitsu, the ancient art of assassination? General-"Of course I have! (American Ninja 1)
And laugh my a** off with my buddies...
Windtalkers (2002)
Have they ever heard of realism???
It has been a while since John Wayne died but I wasn't aware of the fact that he has resurrected in the body of Nicolas Cage (whom I actually like)... Taking out 4 Japanese soldiers with a pistol from a 100 feet at the same time as he's trying to avoid being hit by everything except from airplanes is a BIT unrealistic, don't you think?
I must say that John Woo disappointed me this time...
I give it 5 out of 10 (just because I actually paid to see it and I'm ashamed to have given money for something below the grade of 5...)
