Streets of Fire (1984)
I remember it like I saw it yesterday
When this movie came out, I was living in Appleton, WI, which happens to be the home town of the movie's star, Willem Dafoe. The local press ignored both him and the movie. So much for a native son angle. I remember Siskel and Ebert saying that supporting actress Amy Madigan did an outstanding job and would that "we'll be seeing a lot more from her." I was unimpressed with her relatively minor role, which shows why I would never make a good talent scout. The ads at the time made a big deal out of the movie being "Rick Moranis' dramatic debut" since he was probably the "biggest name" in the movie. You can see how far that claim got him. The music is outstanding, especially "Nowhere Fast", which I still listen to when I need to get the blood pumping.
This movie isn't Shakespeare, but it is fun and makes me feel 25 again.
Hunter (1973)
Under rated. Unjustly obscure
When this movie premiered I was in high school. It's stayed with me all these (25+) years, so that says it all. Good premise, satisfactory acting, spy thriller, etc. Too bad it's impossible to get now.
