Top of the Food Chain (1999)
A rare combination of hilarity and human entrails
I didn't know exactly what to expect going into this and was slightly wary as spoofs can sometimes be just a one-note joke and after the first few might make you smile or think 'hmmm yes that was clever and amusing. But this was truly hilarious and laugh out loud funny.
I agree much of it was silly fun, but there was some more subtle humour. I don't think it was an accident the aliens at the end looked like they walked out of a Gap ad, which I thought was one of the funniest things in the film.
200 Cigarettes (1999)
You had to be there
The only reason not to love this movie is if you don't remember the 80's or you didn't get the very subtle humour that infused the film.
I thought it was clever and I think anyone who's ever tried to throw a new year's party would identify with Martha Plimpton's character.
Someone commented that no teenager would remember Elvis Costello. That's very true, but this film obviously was not made for teenagers. None of the kids in the audience got the jokes because it went right over their heads.
If you're over 20 and you're intelligent, you should enjoy this film.
Six Days Seven Nights (1998)
Sooooo Bad
I'd never left a movie theatre before, until I saw this film. When the pirates showed up, I could no longer take it. One of the best decisions of my life.
