Hard Hunted (1992)
Underrated gem
Well, this was the first Andy Sidaris movie I ever saw, and after seeing it I want more! This is a very underrated movie.. I can't see how anyone could dislike this one. Sure, the people who made this movie aren't big artists, but they know how to make a fun and entertaining movie.
I would compare this movie to the new Charlies Angels film, except this has 7 girls, and they all get naked! Theres lots of explosions and gunplay, sure, the lack of budget shows in them badly but that adds to the fun.
Although Dona Speir is top billed in the movie, Brimhall, Vasquez and Mullen are the hottest of the bunch. Oddly the only girl who is not so well endowed gets killed early in the film...
I would recommend Hard Hunted for everyone, at least to those who watch something like Temptation Island just to see boobies. This is much more fun than that, I promise.
Soldiers Three (1951)
Okay military comedy set in India.
Soldiers Three is a harmless comedy about three british soldiers serving in India (played by Stewart Granger, Robert Newton and Cyril Cusack). The three are great friends after spending 18 years in the army together. Now the colonel (Walter Pidgeon) has had enough of the unruly fellow, and wants to separate them by making one of them (Granger) a sergeant. Of course, sergeants and soldiers cant get along with each other so Granger tries to get degraded to a soldier again...
Gargantuan thrill ride it ain't, you might think. Indeed its nothing special or exciting. Its merely a standard Hollywood studio film of its day, but of course, the standard Hollywood films in 1951 were much more enjoyable than now 50 years later. (at least in my opinion) So this might be worth your time on a lazy tuesday afternoon (If you are not working), just to see a few likable actors like Stewart Granger and David Niven (playing a british officer, a role he fits more than well)
Rumpelstiltskin (1995)
Great fun...if you are stoned.
Rumpelstiltskin is based on story by the Grimm brothers, and it has been filmed few times before, including once starring the great midget himself Billy Barty as Rumpelstiltskin. However this version seems to be just a cheap Leprechaun rip off, you can easily imagine the baby chasing Rumpelstiltskin replaced by Warvick Davis chasing a pot of gold.
I cant say I watched this movie from beginning to end with great interest, in fact I missed the other half almost completely. So there is a change that during the second half there was some big and unique plot revelation that makes this movie rise to a classic level, but I think not. Overally Rumpelstiltskin is just your typical cheap D-grade horrorflick which is made with little or no talent or enthusiasm.
The actors are lifeless, including the guy playing the villain Rumpelstiltskin, Max Grodénchik. This is a shame because a good villain can save a lot in these kinds of movies. Too bad Grodenchik lacks the personality to make the character work. Kevin Yaghers Rumpelstiltskin make up is pretty uninspired too.
Overally.. this is a very bad and cheaply done horror film with lousy acting. 3/10 is pretty rightful rating for it. Some of you bad horror film fans might like it, but I suggest not to invest money in it.
The Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
awesome
The original Little Shop of Horrors is one of the funniest films ever made. I cant believe they filmed this in one weekend. The whole cast is perfect, from Jonathan Haze in the main role as Seymour to Jack Nicholson in a small role as masochistic dental patient. Roger Cormans (and Joe Dantes) regular actor Dick Miller also has good part as the flower eating Burston Fouch. Also worth mentioning are the two policeman, who are hilarious in the few scenes they appear. I think this is a must film for anyone to see, dont let the reputation as the film that was made in weekend fool you, this is pure stuff, one of the greatest horror-comedies ever made. And the plant is hilarious too.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
A Must See Film
I just watched this film a couple of minutes ago, for the first time. I had read and heard about the film for ages, but still, it didn't let me down. It was genuinely scary, though in the end, it was almost sadistic. TCM is alot like Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes, but it's even more gruesome. Leatherface was scary, as was the hole family, and the girl was very pretty, before she started screaming all the time. Well, nothing very intelligent to say about the film... you have to see it yourself. I saw it on R2 DVD Special Edition, which has great image and sound quality + Tobe Hoopers commentary track, and lot's of deleted scenes, which I have yet to see. I definitely recommend this disc to everyone.
Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974)
Ugliest monster ever!
This is the last, and the worst in Hammer's Frankenstein series. This time Baron Frankenstein works in a nuthouse with fake name. He and his young partner ( who was sent to the nuthouse, because of doing Frankensteinish experiments) create, once again, a horrifying monster. (oh well not any point telling about the story) Peter Cushing is great as always, but the monster looks crappy.
It's like an ape/caveman from the stone age. Far from Karloff or Lee. Dave "Darth Vader" Prowse is under HEAVY makeup, so once again he doesn't have to act at all. This is quite enjoyable film, of course if you like these kind of films. But if you didn't like the previous Hammer/Frankenstein movies, you surely will hate this!
