The Million Dollar Hotel (2000)

Terrible movie

I was shocked when I read some of the comments viewing the movie as good or better. In my opinion it was the worst movie I've seen so far this year or any other year for that matter. It goes to show how varied our tastes are. Isn't the fact that it didn't have a theatrical release (or did it) say something about the movie? Oh well back to GWTW.

Where the Heart Is (2000)

Too long?

I just viewed the VHS and really enjoyed the movie. However I do have some remarks. I felt it was about 1/2 hour too long. My second remark also relates to the length. I thought the time spent on Willy Jack's comeuppance could have ended when he was arrested with the 14 year old girl. If the rest of his story were eliminated it wold have have shortened the film to a tolerable length. The downside of this would have meant missing the always strong performance by Joan Cusack.

Snow Falling on Cedars (1999)

fine acting by cast

I enjoyed the movie very much. Gave it a 7. I thought Max Van Sydow was exceptional. The sound track set the mood for the movie. The gloomy scenery also added to the story. Both young lovers were adorable. One of the few movies I will see a second time.

Fight Club (1999)

no accounting for difference in taste

Having just finished viewing Fight Club on video my opinion is it was awful! However I noticed I was in the vast minority of others who voted. Just goes to show how opinions can vary. I did like the cast and felt the three lead characters were very good but their talents were wasted. If you took out the popularity and charisma of Pitt and Norton and replaced them with lesser known actors the video would hardly be worth watching!

Chasing Amy (1997)

almost excellent

Except for the ending I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I did not like the ending much. My take on it was that the relationship had ended. I would have felt much better if they had gotten together. Also the scene where Holden tries to arrange a threesome did not do much for me since it seemed that Holden was out of character. Great acting by Joey Adams. I had seen her in one other movie where she was a barmaid but I could not find it in IMDB. She was also very good in that one. she certainly has star appeal

Underworld (1996)

Although the movie was only so so the closed captioning was by far the best I have ever seen! Most of the time the spelling is terrible and the captioning out of sync. I use the closed captioning even though I can hear well but find a lot of actors mumble. Also many times the sound track overrides the dialogue. Thanks!
