Unintentionally Uplifting

Creating art together can be extremely difficult, but to create with your life partner? Yikes! This film has reminded me how vital it is to not take each other for granted, and to choose your battles, and to give your patience and support freely. Partners! Remember? It's easier the more you want it, simply put.

Sometimes difficult to watch, nonetheless, a great slice of life, with the bonuses of St Pierre and the behind the scenes peek at music creation.

I'm Going To Break Up With You...

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know anything about this movie so I went into it with a clear mind. I am a musician/songwriter/singer/teacher and a man. I felt so bad for Raine and for someone who has been in relationships like this I couldn't believe he is still with Chantal. You can love someone and walk away.

Every time he spoke she would rudely interrupt, talk over him, get aggressive and would not quit until her point was heard. I could believe how she complained about the little things about Raine. It's the little things that you love most about a person. She seems to be very controlling and likes to argue. She likes to point out his flaws or mistakes and constantly questions him almost to the point of challenging him.

Menopause is not an excuse!

I know she's not wrong 100% and there where times when what he said wasn't nice but it also wasn't earth shattering. He really seemed calm but also frustrated and unhappy. Sometimes when things are broken they should remain that way.

If you can't respect each others feelings then move on. Any time Raine expressed his feelings she did not or would not acknowledge them. I personally would not put up with that, life isn't meant to be spent that way and some people do it for decades.

I hope this film if anything helps anyone dealing with issues like these, it takes a lot to put your self out there like they did. Maybe things will get better for them, if not then back your bags and try a new road, nothing wrong with change.

I love conflicts, and these two artists, these two personalities .. they find their words well. Its a very rewarding experience, it sucks that i dont like their music much ) this is what all couples should do, having video evidence of how conflicts go.. is the best practice for change. Ive done it id love more movies like this. I hope this becomes a trend.

Can you feel the love?

Warning: Spoilers
I was a kid in the 90s/00s in Canada. Kreviazuk and Maida were some of the best artists on the radio and became vague "relationship goals". Of course, you never really know what the reality of another relationship is like. "I'm Going to Break Your Heart" gives us a rare window into that reality. It takes the film coming full circle back to the therapist's couch at the end to see that this great love is not at all broken. Even in a life as charmed as theirs would appear, there are hurts to puzzle through. Kreviazuk's insecurity is repeatedly triggered when she comes up against Maida's harshness. But he loves her creativity and she loves his steadiness. A good reminded that we love our partners for the same reasons they make our lives difficult. Like other viewers, I felt they were very relatable. Seeing the song writing process was interesting. Overall as a Canadiana love story this film delivered.

Every Married Couple
roligirl25 May 2019
I sat down to watch this because it was a music documentary and also because I am Canadian.

I was shocked to see that this famous couple are like my husband and myself. They argue, take nips at each other and always go back to what's important. Their love for each other.

They struggle to see eye to eye while making an album together and travel abroad to reconnect. They had some hard times but always reconnected in their love and respect for each other.

To be honest, when I heard the final product it made me cry because these two people clearly are in it forever. I think it is a great testament to the foundation of family and marriage. Never perfect, but always Love.

Indulgent

I was interested in watching because this couple has a history in the Canadian music scene. I found the whole thing indulgent and frankly, a bit of a head scratcher. Are there no real problems with these two? Speaking rudely? Being dismissive or abrupt? Wow. I'm confused. Is this a way to promote a new album?

Liked one of the songs, "I can change".

Interesting to learn about St. Pierre. That's what I got out of this film.

I'm Going To Break Your Head

If you wish to see what it would be like to fly from So. Cal. To a frosty, snow-engulfed island south of Newfoundland, and be cooped up in crappy digs with a shrill, emotionally needy, self-obsessed whiner hell bent on unearthing some reason to argue then skip the trip and just watch this film. You'll save on airfare, hotel bills and therapy, trust me.

To be blunt, it hurts me even to see someone else go through a relationship with someone this fragile.

Everything about this film made me cringe in fear of getting into a similar relationship where the partners, after presumably a very long relationship, are still walking on eggshells, fearful of stepping on a landmine every time they open their mouths. Geez, either grow up or move on.

And the music this relationship produced reflects the relationship to a tee, with the male culprit in the affair from hell pleading "I can change" to the satisfaction of the queen bee.

One further comment - Quincy Jones said good music has three elements - melody, harmony, and rhythm. This stuff lacks rhythm. None. Unless you find slow chord arpeggios enough to shake your hips to. And I found none of the lyrics uplifting at all.

I will give you the best couples therapy advice I can think of - you two should develop a sense of humor - it seems to be seriously lacking in your outlook on life. There wasn't one funny, uplifting or philosophically enlightening moment in this film and if it comes on TV again I'm going to turn it off and have a chat with the dog.
