Exclusive: The ABC pilot thirtysomething(else) has assembled the new generation of thirtysomethings. Auden Thornton (This Is Us) has been cast as a lead opposite Odette Annable, Chris Wood and Patrick Fugit in the sequel to Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick’s beloved 1987-91 drama series.
Thornton will play Brittany Weston, the daughter of Elliot Weston (Timothy Busfield) and Nancy Weston (Patty Wettig). Fugit plays her brother, Ethan Weston; Annable and Wood play grown-up versions of the other two children from the original series, Janey and Leo, the offspring of Michael Steadman (Ken Olin) and Hope Murdoch (Mel Harris).

Exclusive: Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Jason Priestley and Caitlin Carmichael (Dwight in Shining Armor) will star in Speedway, a female-focused car-racing drama currently in development from Jane Kelly Kosek’s Meritage Pictures. Priestley, a former race car driver himself, will also serve as executive producer and is set to direct a number of episodes in the potential series, which is being pitched to broadcast and streaming networks.

Indie distributor The Orchard picked up U.S. distribution rights for another South by Southwest award-winning film on Tuesday, securing rights to “The New Romantic,” written and directed by newcomer Carly Stone.
Stone won the Best First Feature jury award at SXSW for the film. The Orchard also acquired the U.S. rights to “The Dawn Wall,” which won the SXSW audience award in the documentary spotlight category.
“The Orchard is the perfect home for our film,” said Stone in a statement. “They’re passionate, cool and understand how to connect to our target audience.”

The Orchard has taken North American distribution rights to Harris Doran’s gritty festival hit “Beauty Mark.”
The drama follows a poverty-stricken young mother in Louisville, Kentucky who has to move when her house is condemned, forcing her to confront an abusive past in order to save her family.
The indie has taken several notable prizes at domestic film festivals, including a special jury prize for breakout performance from the Los Angeles Film Festival for star Auden Thornton, as well as the narrative feature audience prize from the Austin Film Festival.

This year’s Los Angeles Film Festival, better known as Laff if you’re fun, has unveiled its full slate of 2017 offerings, including new offerings from Vincent Grashaw, Leena Pendharkar, Hong Sangsoo, Lea Thompson and many more.
