As a kid, the holiday has always been enjoyable. Mainly because I would hang out with my family and we would shoot of fireworks and liked fire and blowing stuff up. As I grew up, the holiday became a little stranger for me. I started observing it differently where more people use it as an excuse to drink a lot. Like, A Lot. Factor in the intoxication plus the fact that good portion of our population in America injure themselves from fireworks, whether it is a faulty explosive or someone who didn’t know what they were doing. The other thing that I thought was odd is that there is a feeling of anarchy and carefree-ness where some bad things could happen when someone isn’t looking. The new film, You Are Not Alone, captures some of that.

It seems like it’s been sometime since we got news on Derek Mungor‘s You Are Not Alone. The first time we reported on it was back in 2012 (!), when there was a poster & a teaser for their Kickstarter campaign with a potential June 2013 release. Then, back in April 2014, the official trailer was posted and 6 months later, another trailer was posted. Then, it went dark. The filmmakers, who funded the film via Kickstarter seemed to be in a holding pattern awaiting for a distributor. Even though their film played at the Cannes Film Market, it was looking questionable if they found a distributor or not. Earlier this year, the film was released in the UK on DVD. Remembering how impressed I was by the trailer, the fact that the film takes place during the 4th of July and me purchasing a region-free Blu-Ray player, I started looking up on how I could import the DVD in time for the holiday. All of that ceased when I saw the good news, You Are Not Alone is getting a Us DVD & VOD release on June 23, 2016! Just in time for the 4th of July holiday.

Ever since the overrated phenomena that was The Blair Witch Project (1999), low budget horror filmmakers have capitalised on the increasing use of modern and now easily accessible technology to add a different slant to the genre; The lack of money being a probable factor in the making of these films, but at least it gives them a documentary style lacking in more mainstream efforts.
But it is fair to say that the bulk of the films produced by these budding Camcorder Coppelas are nothing short of dire. And for my own personal point of view, I do not care for this type of filmmaking. Cloverfield (2008) gave me a headache and George Romero’s Diary of the Dead (2007) falls way short of being good. Let’s face it, if you are being menaced by a zombie, and alien or a serial killer, would you really lug around a camera and film...

Pov thriller You Are Not Alone caught our attention a few weeks back with a gorgeous trailer and it seems we're not the only ones who were impressed. The folks at DC Medias liked the movie so much they'll be representing it when it has its debut at the Cannes Market and to celebrate, You Are Not Alone has launched a spiffy new sales trailer.
Co-written by Derek Mungor and Chris O'Brien and directed by Mungor, You Are Not Alone stars Krista Dzialoszynski as Natalie, a recent college grad who returns home for a July 4th celebration only to find herself fighting to live through the night.

I love a good concept that's well executed and that certainly seems to be the case with Derek Mungor's sophomore effort You Are Not Alone, a thriller from the first person Pov of the victim.
Mungor's film, co-written by Chris O'Brien, follows Natalie, a university student who heads home for July 4th celebrations with friends and family only to discover that on the night of the big party, a sociopath is on the loose and reportedly in the middle of a killing spree in the area.
From the trailer, it seems as though the movie is also broken into two distinct parts: a first which captures Natalie enjoying her trip home and a second half that focuses on the young woman as she deals with the murdering psychopath. It's an interesting concept and from the looks of the trailer, one whic [Continued ...]...
