Mumbai, March 10: With heroine-centric films like "Gulaab Gang" and "Queen" getting a good response at the box office, actress Prachi Desai says it's a great time for all female actors as they are free to choose the kind of films and roles they wish to do.
Prachi was last seen in box office dud "Policegiri".
"For all the female actors, it's a very good phase because today you don't have to worry about a project that you really like," the actress told reporters here at the unveiling of clothing brand Central's spring summer collection Sunday.
"Maybe at any other point and time, the girls would have thought twice before taking up a project, but today I guess you can do just what you like," she added.

When Lootera did show good escalation over the weekend, it was expected that weekdays would stay on to be stable. Well, they did stay stable, but on the lower side, as a result of which the film collected 27 crores at the end of first week. That may have still seemed okay had the weekend not showed good rise in numbers. However given the fact that the momentum didn’t really stay on its peak does give a clear indication that it’s target audience was exhausted sooner than one would have imagined.
The film is now a break even affair though frankly, a much better verdict was expected due to word of mouth that had started gaining. As stated in the last week’s column though, more than anything else the film would add a lot of credibility to all involved though it won’t be remembered for the moolah...

It was always expected that Lootera would primarily find audience in premium multiplexes of the country. Given the glowing pre-release reviews and insiders testimonials, the film had seemed to set for an opening around the 50% mark. While footfalls were a tad lesser than that to begin with, there was good escalation over the weekend owing to positive word of mouth. This resulted in the first week collections of around 19 crores which gives a film a good enough ground to build a respectable total from here.
While this Vikramaditya Motwane directed film was never quite slated to hit the roof, a lot would now depend on the weekday collections for the film to see a higher box office billing. More than just the commercials involved, it is the kind of credibility that everyone associated with it has managed to build with Lootera since it is a classy product. At the end...

Mumbai, July 8: Manyata Dutt hopes "Lootera", which released on the same day as her husband Sanjay Dutt's "Policegiri", also does well at the box office as it is like a family film for her.
While Vikramaditya Motwane-directed "Lootera" has been co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and and Phantom Films, "Policegiri" was T.P. Aggarwal and Rahul Aggarwal's production venture. Both the films came out Friday.
"I hope it ('Policegiri') does well and 'Lootera' also does well. Ekta (Kapoor) calls me 'bhabhi' and of course, Sonakshi calls me 'bhabhi' and bhaiya to Sanju. So that is also my family film. It's good there is no competition,.

Look. Indian cinema is like a massive bouquet of wildflowers of different colours and smells. You really can’t judge Policegiri, Sanjay Dutt’s hefty homage to hero-giri completed before his 3-year prison terms, against the soft gently-undulating movements of the week’s other release Lootera. If Vikramaditya Motwane’s film is soft-petalled rose Policegiri is a wild cactus flower from the desert.
Why cactus? The landscape is populated with pricks, you see.
It’s roaring 12-gun salute to the traditional mainstream cinema’s ongoing obsession with the corruption-cleansing cop who goes on a rampage. The anti-establishment figure from Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer has been slyly transformed into the Khaki-coloured law-enforcer with shades of grey .

Sonakshi Sinha is in for some real interesting weekend ahead. After working in five back to back hero-centric films (Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore, Joker, Son of Sardaar, Dabangg 2), four of which crossed the 100 crore mark, she would now be seen in her first ever outing which has both her and hero in equal measures. Even for Ranveer, this is an acid test of sorts since after being seen as a flamboyant personality in Band Baaja Baraat followed by Ladies v/s Ricky Behl, he would be seen in a much sober avatar on screen. What has caught attention so far is the simplicity factor in this Vikramaditya Motwane affair. If the promos are any indication, this one appears to be a classy outing in the offering. This also means that the film would find maximum patronage, at least to begin with, in premium multiplexes at major cities with all India opening in the 50% range.

With his new release Policegiri around the corner, Sanjay Dutt's friends and family miss his presence in their midst more than ever. This is a very trying time for Dutt's family, especially his wife Manyata. Apparently, she has been unable to watch Policegiri. Although several attempts have been made to arrange screenings for her, Maanyata has been too emotionally overwrought to watch the entire film. "It is too overwhelming for her to see her husband on screen at a time when he is not with her," says a source. Says the Policegiri producer T.P. Aggarwal, "This is very tough on all of us especially Maanyataji and Sanjay's immediate family, who would have liked nothing better than to have him stand up for the film. In his absence, we're doing our best. Not to have Sanjay with us is a blow that we feel stronger now when the film is on release.

Mumbai, May 29: Rahul Aggarwal, producer of Sanjay Dutt-starrer "Policegiri", asserts he is against 'frivolous publicity' and will not use 'sympathy card' to promote his movie.
Sanjay is currently serving his three-and-a-half year jail sentence in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case in the Yerawada Central Jail in Pune. He surrendered May 16.
"That's one card, which I don't want to play because people should not be feeling that I am playing the sympathy card. What is happening is unfortunate. Nevertheless, the film has to be released. But I am not going to be doing any frivolous publicity," Rahul told reporters Tuesday at the first.

The South's gonna rise again! This time, it's the south of India, whose over the top masala action style is all the rage in Bollywood these days. The latest product of this trend is Policegiri, a film starring '80s-'90s superstar romantic lead Sanjay Dutt as a roughneck cop taking matters into his own hands, sort of like a Dirty Hari. Not surprisingly, the film is a remake of a Tamil film titled Saamy that starred Vikram and was a huge hit at the box office. The remake is directed by big shot Tamil filmmaker Ks Ravikumar, who is responsible for one huge hit after another, including Kamal Hassan's bizarre vanity project Dasavataram from back in 2008. More recently, Ravikumar is currently involved in co-directing the massive...
